GI Joe

Decent action flick. Good special effects. Not gonna win any awards but entertaining. Has some refernces and some of the characters of the original but not really the same flavor. That and it's an international force not a 'real american hero'. Defeintly worthwhile if u like action movies.

Adventureland.

Recent college grad gets a job at a theme park, youthful sex, drugs, and booze ensues.

Funny movie, 'quirky', uh...kind of, like, a good one to watch with your girl on a gloomy rainy Saturday.

saw a ton of movies so here we go:

gi joe- better than transformers 2 but that is not saying much. the acting was wooden but wayans did well and not annoying like he can be as comic relief. the action was great in some parts and cartoony in others. the snake eyes/storm shadow fight was not as good as advertised. i would recommend only if there is nothing else to watch.

the final destination- it was the worst of the series but it was still entertaining. the characters are getting worse and they are becoming more and more fodder especially the protagonist. the deaths were somewhat creative but the second one was the benchmark that is hard to top. recommend for fans only.

i love you man- great and introspective movie with good performances all around. the characters all act accordingly to real life and not just the mean girlfriend or the @#$%hole co-worker. funny but not sidesplitting funny. the characters are very likable especially the girlfriend who paul rudd's character should thank god everyday for having a girlfriend that understanding and sincere because not many girls are like that. good and realistic examination of the girlfriend vs. friends scenario that all adults have faced and dealt with juggling the two lives. highly recommended.

adventureland- another introspective tale that is not overly funny and plays more like a dramedy than an outright comedy. what i love the most is the movies pulse of the time. the protagonist seems to talk and think at a higher level which attracts the self absorbed youth of the time. the music from that era helps the tale also and gets you to remember a summer that you worked an underappreciative job but still had fun. ryan reynolds is greatly toned down in this role. good movie but don't expect another waiting....

orphan- a very disturbing movie. at first, i thought this movie will be another good son and i know what to expect. but the twist is very diabolical and chilling. i was pleasantly surprised by this movie and recommend it.

i have more to come in a bit.

Yes good movie. Some very sad parts, though, that definitely reflected what life of a Jewish man/woman was like during those times.

yeah, it almost made a parody of it which i doubt was Tarantino's intention but i think he showed the raw hatred that many people had for the Nazi's at that time even w/the caricatured roles he cast in this movie... even so, i thought the most interesting character in the movie was ironically enough the Nazi SS colonel Hans Lander, who really acted his role to perfection... diabolically clever guy that had a certain charisma about him that kept me drawn in to what he was gonna do or say next... just a really well made, well acted & well directed movie w/just enough comic relief bits to it (mostly from Brad Pitt's character Aldo) to balance out all the violence... definitely gonna be getting this one on DVD when it comes out.

trick r treat- this movie is different from the awful 80's film. this is an excellent horror movie worthy of repeat holiday viewing and a great way to kick off the halloween season. the story deals with 4 interwoven tales that is a cross between "pulp fiction", "lost" and "creepshow". weird way to explain it but you have to see it to know what i am talking about. it revolves around the "rules" for halloween and the consequences of breaking them. the acting and dialogue were above avg. with a good bit of wit and humor to lighten the mood. also pay attention to details and what is being said to not be surprised by the "twists" similar to an episode of "lost". the only downside was there was a moment where the sfx was lacking but then again it is a low budget movie so it is overlooked. highly recommended for horror fans or those who want to wash away the horrible halloween horror movies of recent memory ( thank you, rob zombie).

Going to see 'Paranormal Activity' Friday night. Finally came to NY. Can't wait to see that. Hope it lives up to the hype.

Gonna rent 'Drag me to Hell' today. A horror movie that actually got good reviews when it came out, imagine that.

Really looking forward to seeing 'The Box' & 'The Fourth Kind.' Was bored the other day and downloaded the script for 'The Box.' Weird and very high-concept. Big sci-fi element to the flick that's hinted at quickly in the trailer that I enjoyed (the trailer's cool - love the Saw music!). Love Frank Langella too. His character is very mysterious & sinister. I couldn't think of a better guy for his part. Great casting... 'The Fourth Kind' looks really creepy too. Looks similar to 'Communion,' 'The Mothman Prophecies' & maybe 'Fire in the Sky.' Hopefully it's as good as those 3 - those are all superior alien abduction-type flicks..

I seen 'Management' the other day. It's a really low-key, slightly off-beat, comedy/romance flick, but it wouldn't be considered homosexual to watch it alone if you're a guy because it's so quirky and refreshing.

It's Jen Aniston and this other Guy and they fall in love in a weird way after he touches her butt in a hotel room. So check it out, one of the best, most heart-warming films i've seen in the last 7 months.

i think "drag me to hell" is my next movie. i heard it is good and it is good to get raimi back to his horror roots. the box was an old short story in the 60's/70's in the same vein as "the monkey's paw". might be good but to sustain it for a full film, i have my doubts. you are right about "the fourth kind". probably one of the top three scariest trailer i have ever seen but sometimes that sets you up for a let down. another trailer that was equally as scary was "white noise" a few years back and then the movie was trash. i think we will get "paranormal activity" next week today. i planned to see it but i hope it won't be as disappointing to me as the blair witch project was.

I saw Paranormal Activity this past Sunday and for me it lived up to the hype. I'm a pretty big horror movie buff. The movie is a bit of slow build but it's like everytime they get to the night time I was literally covering my eyes because I just didn't know what the next move was going to be. By the end I could barely watch and like I said I'm a pretty harsh critic when it comes to horror but I found this pretty stellar.

I'm also looking forward to the Fourth Kind and this other independent horror Hell House.

a serious man - the coen brothers. oh man i laughed my damn ass off at this move. now i really wonder what the impact is on the broad range of audience - this movie is a dark comedy about a shlep of a man in 1967 and all the crap he goes through in his life, including having a 13 year old pothead son who gets stoned as hell on the day of his bar mitzvah! to me funny as all get out and i related like crazy to it, but i'm very interested in hearing how it plays over all.

these two films i watched kind of coorelate with each other but they were both done well:

drag me to hell- this is raimi at his best. not to say that i did not enjoy the spider-man movies ( well, at least two of them) or the gift but horror is just simply his forte and he showed it here. the beginning started with such a grab that i was jolted as it was so unexpected. this was a smart move that made the suspense amped up to a point that you are literally jumping on every jump scene ( which there was a ton). he even had some appropriate humor to pace this but he still kept it terrifying and the pace was excellent. Recommended.

paranormal activity- now, here is the one question everyone asked me. is this the best horror movie ever? well, i am a movie buff and horror is my fave genre but i would have to say no. however, it had one scene at the end that was arguably the scariest scene i had ever seen. it is still an excellent movie that deserve praise because it is original, simple and brilliant. the esculation and pacing was amazing.great that it starts off small and then things start to get crazy, which was so different from drag me to hell in that aspect. plus the characters were great. it actually felt that you were watching a documentary or reality series unlike cloverfield or quarantine which you could definately tell it was a movie. the actors gave gravity to their role. the aspect i liked was you could blame both characters for their predicament. the most creepy aspect is that it felt real. no large sfx extravaganza but real situations as small as creaking or the slamming of a door that makes it scary. we all experience waking up to noise thinking it was the wind but not sure. this movie makes you think twice about that. what 'poltergiest' did for me in my childhood making me scared of my tree outside, this movie has done making me scared of just my own house. highly recommended and probably top 5 imo of the genre but it does not take the number one title for me.

I hated Drag Me to Hell they should have dragged the movie straight to hell and not released it. The special effects were a detriment to the movie, they were at time completely unecessary, and borderline ridiculous. The concept of the movie was pretty good but some scenes made me laugh out loud. Sometimes less is more especially in horror films special effects can be tricky it can enhance a movie or make it completely ridiculous.

i can see why the movie would turn people off. it was very campy in some cases especially when the demon possessed the one guy and started dancing ( what is up with raimi and dancing in his films?). however, it is not unlike his previous horror films like the evil dead series which was great ( though army of darkness was TOO campy for my taste). i guess it is a matter of taste.

I thought 'Drag me to hell' was cool. Definitely campy like Jazz said, but in a good way I thought. I laughed in some parts - I though Justin Long was pretty funny. Think 'Stephen King's Thinner,' with a little 'Exorcist" and a lot 'Evil Dead.' If you like horror like I do and liked any of those movies, you'll enjoy this..

Thought 'Paranormal Activity' was cool too. Not the best horror movie I've ever seen (for me that honor goes to 'Exorcist III' - that movie and the book it's based on, 'Legion' by William Peter Blatty, are both top shelf horror imho, with Kubrick's 'The Shining' coming in 2nd followed by 1980's 'Salem's Lot' and the original 'Amityville Horror' - all of those flicks still scare the **** outta me even though some are pretty dated now) but it was definitely a nice little creepshow. Call me crazy but I dug the chick in this flick a lot. I thought she was cute & very real. I like how they didn't go out and get the hottest chick they could find for the role. The guy wasn't bad in it, a little too macho for me which I thought hurt the overall realism just a tad (come on, the first sign of real terror I would've been outta there, I'm sorry). Getting compared to 'The Blair Witch' and while that was cool, this is even better..

yeah, you are right. the girl i thought was very cute. looked typical and that is what you want in a movie like this. you don't want jessica alba in a role like that then it is unaccessible to the veiwer and highly implausible ( though i wouldnt have mind. lol.) the movie did explain why it didnt matter where they went, it would follow. it must be love because he stayed even after she started acting weird instead of going.

also i did like your list of scary movies. i remembered two scenes from your movies you mentioned. in "exorcist III", i remembered the nurse checking the rooms and all of a sudden, the killer appeared behind her. i jumped so high because it was so unexpected. then in salem's lot, the morgue scene was one of the most nerve wracking and suspenseful scene i have seen. two great movies.
