I think when you have a lottery pick, you really need to work on the best available player--- if you have a hunch a guy could be a superstar, go with it. If you have a choice between several players who you think'll pan out in the NBA, then you go with your need.

If the Knicks are SOO confident with Frye's potential in the NBA, let's see what he can do, then we'll whine about how IT blew it. :)

One thing is for certain--- he doesn't look like he's got the type of body that could bang with Shaq. Fine. That's what we have Malik Rose for. For all other purposes, I think Frye could be a capable center in this league.

meanwhile green, granger, graham, taft & Bynum go on to become the next Mcgrady, pierce, artest, kobe, J'neal & amare!

Look, having Frye is not a bad move. We have guys like Sweetney to compensate for whatever Frye is not able to provide, I.E. guarding bigger guys. Sweet is perhaps 270 lbs, we can use his weight to push people around with Frye coming over the top to block shots...

Thats the problem. When you pick a big man at 8 you should not have to worry about having to compensate with other players on your roster for what he can't do. This is why I don't want Channing Frye, he's not good enough to be picked with the 8th pick! I don't mind Channing, I woulnd't mind if the Knicks had the 15th pick and took him, then it's worth it but at the 8th pick in the draft you need to the players that have the best chance of being superstars in this league, no ifs ands or buts and Channing does not fit that description, he's going to be a pretty good player in the NBA but never any better then that, he MIGHT make a all-star team one year if everything goes his way but your not going to get much more from him then that.

If Channing Frye is going to be the 8th pick in the draft, he better play like someone picked in the top8 of the draft and not someone who is picked in the mid to late first round which is what I absolute fear the most becuase I've seen the kid play in college numerous times. Atleast with Bynum you are getting a kid who isn't going to be pushed around on defense and on offense will be able to overpower people once he gets a feel for the NBA game.

A) Drafting players that complement each other is also called building a team.

B) Go back and look at the second half of the lotto from the past ten drafts. The second half of the lotto is usually one of the hardest places to seperate the good from the over-hyped. It's provided teams with some superstars, but getting a superstar is NOT the rule. The teams that screw up are usually those that reach and try to predict a superstar. I feel like this is the case with the Bynum love around here: people are pissed we screwed up getting Bogut and now they want the next "superstar" center. Anyone remember when Briggs was calling Bogut the next superstar in this league? Now it's Bynum? There's going to be two superstar centers in this draft? Teams do better in the draft when they try to take the player they like best, rather reach on some big project like Diop, Robert Swift, Petro, Weis, Jerome James. Frye doesn't fit into that category. You know what you're getting with Frye. A guy who is an active defender, good shotblocker, solid rebounder, very good scorer. He's going to be a solid starter in this league. To me, that's a great use of a draft pick. When was the last time this team drafted someone who could start (outside of maybe Ariza)?

that is if you already have players like Kobe, Mcgrady, Pierce, Iverson, J'neal, Duncan, KG, Allen & Amare in place

NOT Marbury, Crawford & Q!

Guns, that's also what people thought when they drafted Travis Outlaw, Ndubi Ebi, DeSagana Diop, DeShawn Stevenson and Jonathan Bender.

Green is supposed to go ahead of Frye. Granger is the only other player you listed projected as top-10 material in this draft...

The experts have been known to make mistakes before... but like they say-- if you make a mistake, make it on a big player. Well... Frye is big... not quite Bynum size, but outside of Bogut, he's the most deserving big man in the draft.

Taft/Villanueva look like good tools type of prospects, but Frye seems to offer the most deliverable potential... and both Taft and CV seem to project to be potential headcases.

Either could be better than Frye, but at least based on scouts and the people who make mock drafts, they see as Frye as having a greater chance of having a greater impact.

you think Isiah would draft any of those busts? look at his history. I trust that he will draft one of the best players of the draft Bynum, green, granger, graham or taft

I love it!!! The easiest thing in the world to do is recognize that they're busts AFTER they become them!

What kills me is you guys know nothing about Bynum, yet you are ready to name him next to franchise players, cornerstones of organizations and 5,6 and 7 time allstars. This is hilarious.

maybe, maybe not but those who've seen Frye including Arizona and Pac 10 fans and have followed Frye for 3yrs not just during 2 tournament games know that there are way better players on the board ay 8 than Frye.

dude, the pick has like an 80% probability of being Frye. it's going to be okay. there is also like a 10% chance that Granger or Green slip to the Knicks. Taking Graham or Taft at 8 would be taking them too high. Bynum isn't remotely a lottery pick. You're going to need to accept that Zeke knows what he's doing and he likes Frye.

I accept that Isiah is a con-artist and would never draft a low ceiling player like Frye at 8. He may not draft Bynum but I guarantee you he won't draft Frye like he's misleading people into thinking he is. He will draft the BPA!

Guns my man!

I just want to be prepared.

What kind of self-expression should we expect from you on Tuesday night if Frye gets called at #8??

distructive anger!

but I won't make my signature "Fire Isiah" until I give Frye a chance. If we're picking him because he's the most nba ready bigman than I expect to see results right away not like when we drafted the 3yr college veteran Micheal Sweetney and he can't stay on the court and not in foul trouble in the 2nd quarter.

No one on this particular site talks about Bynum like he is just as much of a risk as any other highschool prospects and could go either way....easily. It's like few people here are willing to talk about this guy with any type of logic. The reality is he could be a Collins type of center at the end of the day. He may be Diop at the end of the day. Maybe he becomes an allstar in 4 years. Who knows? Lets say we pick the kid. Let's say he flops....big time. Don't act like it doesn't happen ALL OF THE TIME. The 2005 draft would be a total disaster. There are pros and cons with drafting Frye or anyone else at 8. But why fool yourselves by sitting here and talking about the BEST CASE SCENARIO with this kid constantly. With the exception of 'time', most people hear are looking at the pros only. You['re talking like he's a sure thing and it's only a matter of time before he explodes upon the scene anialating and detroying anything in his path to become the great Ewing like savior of a center that we have sorely needed. But what happens if he goes the other way? People will probably catch amnesia and Bynum's "upside" and call for Isiah's head because.....say it with me....WE DON'T HAVE A CENTER. Why not look at both sides of the coin?

Why sit around and talk about Bynums strengths (that most have never seen) and at the same time talk about every other player's weaknesses? This is the reason that Bynum has become damn near a super hero on this board.

Well I agree with you I hate when Sweets picks up his fouls by chasing guys on the perimeter. If he wants to lose enough weight to be quick enough to do that without fouling, fine. Otherwise save your fouls for chasing WNBA players like Curry back to the bench in fear!!!

he's 17 yrs old with less glaring weaknesses than Frye. I rather take a chance on a 7-1 280 C with weaknesses than a 6'10 1/2" 240 jumpshooting C who showed very little strength(a key aspect of being an NBA bigman) except when he played against weaker frontlines in a couple tournament games.
