If the Knicks take Frye instead of Bynum, why not blame Bynum for that? "Always the Knicks making bad decisions". Well, at least they had a workout with him arranged, and he shut down that. If he had had the workout and had impressed Isiah, Im sure he would take him because he knows how to evaluate talent. But Bynum shutting down the workout like if he was such a sure thing may just have killed his chances of being picked at 8th. So if we don't pick him, and Isiah picks the best center he finds, being that Frye, who can blame him? Bynum should have done that workout...

Plenty of people can still find a reason to blame him. Isiah should have arranged the workout with Bynum several years ago. Isiah shouldn't have let it get this far with another team!

NBA draft.net doesn't even has him on the draft, like if they expected him to pull out...

The bad part about this, the Knicks, AGAIN, do not do enough due dilligence and let them pass it by. Isiah Thomas couldnt take an hour of huis time for a 5 minute drive from MSG to watch Bynum's workout when he was in shape and now the Knicks team has been burned by a *SMARTER* team who has done the homework. While Isiah has fixated on one player, he dropped the ball. He fixates on players, I remember how he fixated on KVH, trying to pull him out of college by guarnteeing him pick 2. I know what Bynum is, and I was listening to Ryan Blake call him a taller version of Eddie Curry who will be able to rebound and block shots at a greater frequency. The teams that have been interested in Andrew the most Atlanta, Portland, LA are teams that have fantastic people running the show. My opinion is he is going to LA or Portland. It makes much more sense to say LA, but the story is they were blown away in his Portland workout. You cant watch the MCD game and say this is the kid. It isnt, its a 30 pound lighter, healthy version who is in the process of rapid progression's both in skills and physical nature. UC Insider had his heights which were also listed on his website at 7 3/4 in bare feet 7-2 in shoes 282 pounds measured a 33 inch standing vertical with a 7-6 wingspan.
Listen, we didnt do enough homeork here and we were burned on the workout session. Obviously someone didnt want Andrew working out for pick 7-8. And while he did have open workouts for any NBA team, he only worked out in private for Memphis, Atlanta, LA, Portland and New Orleans.

So while memphis is pick 19, the others are teams who have been trying to move down in the draft some--sans Atlanta, but hold lottery positions.

My guess is he goes pick 5 to Portland after a trade and secondary is pick 10 to lA.

How do you know Isiah wasn't there? (I'm not disagreeing with you; I'm just curious.)

Ah, we shall see if Bynum really jumped up into the top 5, or top 10 for that matter.

I voted for Frye but it was a difficult decision. I'm also heavily interested in the potential of Bynum.

Ultimately I don't like the chances that he pulls a Kwame/Diop/even Curry-lite performance for the next 3 years, then starts to show promise in his 4th extended year, then starts courting ridiculous offers after that (I know the new CBA could change that process, but you know what I’m saying). I don't see him as the killer in HS and apparently most others don’t either or he'd be consensus #1. Anything could happen with him and I'd still love to get him, but I’d go with Frye over him at 8.

I think Frye has the potential to be a Gasol or Rasheed-like player.

Tough call.

I also think we’re going to be very pleasantly surprised at 30.

And what’s with Vasquez’ resurgence in the mocks?

We need to take the best player with the best upside regardless of position. In the long run, it seems to work out best that way.

Key phrase: Long Run!

"Isiah Hating" is no different than hating on any other GM we have had here, or the rangers, or our baseball teams in down years. Jets and Giants getted ripped to shreads in losing years. With how many daily papers and interenet access, there is lots of love when its going good, and hate when its down! "WE" (knick fans-ticket holders-owner) are an impatient bunch!

So beating on Isiah, should be no different than beating on anyone else not getting the job done. While Some think Isiah is planting the seets for the future, we might be suspect to see them mature as its not the knick way.

I am shocked at the amount of support for Bynum!

Is this cuz he gains momentum on these pages?

Or there H.S. potential syndrum written all over his hype?

For one, I think Isiah goes with Frye.

Yes. When you have a poster with a million people hanging from his jock strap and he continuously posts Bynum thread after Bynum thread, each one making an even grander assumption than the last, you succumb to it. BRIGGS has fought a war of attrition against all of the Bynum naysayers. I have even been insulted for disagreeing with him and the apple of his eye. Keep in mind that I like Bynum, I have just tried to keep the discussion within realistic boundaries.

Having said all of that, I think we should take a chance on him, but we would definitely have to get another first round pick. I would like him or Petro but I would prefer a wing player at #8 and I am leaning heavily rtowards Granger.

everything we know about potential draftees come from 2 places - watching them on TV or reading about them on websites. you can watch a player for years in college and have a good understanding of what they can and can't do - example, warrick b/c syracuse is on tv alot. and in this case frye. people know what he's about and have formulated a theory of how good he can be based on what they saw and what they read.

bynum is a complete mystery b/c nobody really saw him play throughout his career, and it is high school to boot. but there's ALOT of write-ups on him which we are privy to courtesy of briggs. so i don't think anybody is wrong for wanting frye or bynum. it's based completely on what you see and hear and is your opinion.

me, personally, would draft bynum. not b/c of the hype but b/c of his physical tools (size, height, agility) and b/c i've seen frye a few times and am still wondering why a legit center (supposedly) would be pegged to go #8 instead of top three, especially after 4 years of college (by many websites and mock drafts).

frye would help and is the safe pick - a very layden-ish pick (and i don't mean that in a bad way). i think we're not at the point of making safe picks, i think we need to make a gamble pick like the suns did with amare.

I wonder who's hanging from Briggs' jockstrap? A few people here come to mind!

I would rather take Granger and Petro in the mid-first, than Bynum at 8 and someone at 30. Bynum is a risk and if we are going to take it, we need to still make a good pick and get a sure thing otu of this draft.

...At the 2005 NBA Draft David Stern approaches the podium to announce the New York Knicks first round selection at number 8...

Hubie Brown: Well guys, here comes the Knicks pick. There has been a lot of talk that they promised Channing Frye from Arizona this spot. Almost every mock draft has New York taking Frye.

Kevin Harlan: The Knicks have made some interesting choices in past drafts. This is Isiah Thomas' first time selecting in the first round for the Knicks.

Hubie: Right Kevin. Well let's see who he picks. David Stern is ready with the announcement.

David Stern: With the 8th pick of the draft, the New York Knicks select... [awkward pause] ...Frederick Weis???

Knicks Fans: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Kevin: Hubie, can they do that? This is baffling.

Hubie: I'm at a loss for words.

...Back in New York...

edsonline: Marscha! Marscha! Marscha!

Diderotn: YAY!!! He's taller than 6'10"
