There is no doubt about it. The best thing for the Knicks this season was Trevor Ariza and his rapid growth. There isnt much else positive we saw in games after the month of January. He showed real promise with his development at the age of 19. I want to know what knick fans think about Ariza's future. Where do we expect him to be in 2 years? 2 years is when our #8 pick should be ready to contribute and also when Houston's contract is done.
Execellent SF/SG: 20+pts, 9+rebs, 4+assists with great defense + intangibles
Good SF: 16pts 8rebs with good defense + intangibles
Average SF: 12pts 6 to 8 rebs with decent defense
Just an intagibles and hustle guy that plays good defense
Bad SF: Tim Thomas!

He will be good but he wont be a star player on the Knicks.
Are you saying you think he'll be a star on another team or are you saying that you think he'll remain on the Knicks but just won't be a star? The former seems hard for me to understand. I think Isiah will do whatever he can to re-sign the kid he drafted.

I'm saying he wont be a star in general - but he could put up bigger numbers on another team.

look at the #s that tayshun prince put up this year:

14.7 pts, 5.3 rpg, 3 apg

If ariza gets to about that level, great. doubt he will get as many boards as tayshun, probably more assists.

I think he will be an all star on the rise... for the Lakers.

Thank you for making me spit out a mouthful of coffee.

The only thing worse is the comment someone made a while ago that he'll be an all-star . . . for the NETS!

he's a FA at the end of the year, and he's only an early Bird player. At 20-21 years old, especially with a weak draft its feasable that a team in a more favorable area offers him something just above the MLE.
Remember, he's from SoCal and thats also where he went to school.

Heck.. we may not even have our MLE. Vin Baker is a free agent and we might be trying to trade for someone that has the same agent.

Call it the Baker tax.

Looks like our SF spot is covered.

Not if Isiah doesn't actually use his brain for once, by dipping his hands into the MLE to extend Ariza so we can have his bird rights. If he doesn't do this, he'll flee, just like Fishmike said, b/c I have a feeling he wont get much playing time this year, especially if the Knicks want to showcase Tim Thomas.

i think he will be an average small forward in the league. i don't see him being an all star or anything like that

and i love the kid. but let's be serious he can't shoot too well to avg. 20 per game.
Didn't Seattle use those as reasons to trade Scottie Pippen on draft nite. No consistent outside shot. I voted excellent because I think he is capable of developing that outside shot. I loved what I saw this year, with no playing time. And when he got playing time as a starter his numbers were impressive. He needs to develop a more consistent jumper so guys won't cheat off him and won't anticipate his drive. If Houston wanted to be useful he would take this kid aside and run shooting drills with him. Summer League will be extremely helpful for him.

Silver you know i voted him EXCELLENT!

Reezy will get stronger and that will make a world of difference for him. You saw what Iguodala could do last year because of his strength? Pretty impressive. But there are lots of skills that Reezy possesses that Iggy doesn't, and once Reezy gets his strength up, oh man, watch out, excellent will definitely be the word for his game.
Yea, I was sure you would vote excellent and I really hope you are right. You have been the most consistent Ariza fan this season. I actually think he has the potential to be in between a superstar and an all star.I think the next few off seasons are key. If he gets stronger and gets a better jumpshot, we have a 3 of the future.

Ariza looks more athletic than Prince. Prince had a rough start to his career... in his rookie year:

Prince:
10.4mpg, 1.1rpg, 0.6apg, 0.2spg, 3.3ppg.

Ariza:
17.3mpg, 3.0rpg, 1.1apg, .9spg, 5.9ppg.

Tayshaun Prince had an awesome all-around season, and averaged 5.3boards. 6 boards/gm is pretty high... so expecting more than that out of a small forward is awfully optimistic.

Let's look at others with perhaps comparable size/athleticism.

Josh Smith 6.2
Bobby Simmons 6.0
Josh Childress 6.0
Iguodala 5.7
Joe Johnson 5.2
Mike Miller 4.0
Desmond Mason 3.9

Some bigger guys:
Rashard Lewis 5.5
Tim Thomas 3.3

Ariza's stats project w/ starter minutes:
34.6mpg, 6rpg, 2.2apg, 1.8spg, 11.8ppg

Prince's 2nd year production:
32.9mpg, 4.8rpg, 2.3apg, 0.8spg, 10.3ppg

Given that Ariza is STILL 19 (turns 20 on later this month!), and Prince was a rookie at 22... we can only hope he has a whole lot of upside left.

It doesn't always work out, however... DerMarr Johnson has yet to arrive as an NBA regular, let alone live up to his billing as a lottery pick.

The only issue is that the Knicks management has little stability--- Prince received steady instruction from Larry Brown (or did he start out w/ Carlsle as a rookie?)... Either way, those are two of the top defensive coaches.

Ariza has had split coaching from Lenny/Herb (tho Herb has been around the whole time)... the Knicks organization has very little history developing rookies in recent years. Sweetney continues to be a work in progress... leaving Charlie Ward as our last successful drafted project.

I have high hopes that Butler will make wholescale improvements over the summer... but we'll see.

I take what I said back. I think Ariza will average between 15-17pts at some point. He already proved that he could average 11 as a starter at only 19
