This is the year for Isiah to redeem himself as a GM. He needs to find a way to make some excellent moves this off-season. It is a hell of a situation for a guy like Isiah to find himself, but he choses the job, the job didn't chose him

in all honesty, what isiah SHOULD do, is to give herb next season and then step down as president, bring someone in like walsh, and coach the team himself.
So every GM after a disappointing season should step down and coach? Or is this a separate standard for Isiah?

Laimbeer was a total jerkoff of a person as a player, hated by almost every other player in the league. But he did seem to gain real loyalty from his teammates. Sort of Skiles-like, but taken to a greater extreme. Interesting character.

One thing is for sure, he got the job done. Detroit was just the most hated team in the league, they are no different today....Larry Brown has them playing acceptable basketball, but still many would much rather watch Cleveland and some other team play instead...I love that type of basketball to tell you the truth...I like a little of the flashiness too, but lock down defense is what turns me on.

Funny to hear you say that - I'm the same way. I love the tough lock-down D teams. I get in arguments all the time with my friends who like the run-and-gun bulls**t teams like Phoenix. I loved the Bad Boys then, and I love the Pistons now. The other funny thing is that teams that play D like thay do get totally overlooked for their offfensive prowess. The Bad Boys were an amazing offensive team with Zeke, Dumars, Microwave, Aguirre, Dantley, etc. and so are the Pistons of today with Rip, Prince, Sheed, Billups, etc.

it is all about fundamentals.....The Spurs and Detroit are two of the best in the game today..That is why they both may meet in the finals. Our Knicks were once considered a defensive power house at one point,...We need to go back to that style of play...that is why Laimbeer is the right coach for a hard nose city like N.Y. He is the type of guy who will look a reporter in the face and tell him to phuck off.

not like that at all. i said let him GM one more year, giving him enough time by your standards to put together something resembling a squad and then let him take over and coach this team b/c if the team dissapoints again 2 years from now, we'll keep on this coaching carousel without laying blame directly on the players acquired and the person doing the acquiring.

I have been calling for him to be announced as our headcoach for a while now, and normally when I mention something, it has always happened....
OK, would you mention something about me finding a new job, this place is driving me nuts!

Lol.....

Like what do teams like the Clippers go through in their media? The Clippers have been a lottery team a record 16 times in 20 years I think.

I hope Laimbeer is the guy that gets hired then Isiah can close that door and get ready for the draft. I'm sick of reading and hearing so much ying yang on the Knicks coaching situation. There are a bunch of teams out there that don't have a coach.

Yeah, it was a bit of a bizarre comment. Layden had a few bad years. Should he subsequently have been coaching the Knicks? If (a) the Knicks are awful next year, (b) there were no horrible unexpected injuries, and (c) the team isn't giving big minutes to several promising young players, I'll be quiet disappointed in Isiah. I wouldn't want him to coach, though. I'd want him to focus every ounce of his energy on turning things around as a GM.

Absolutely agree. I've come to the conclusion that whenever a poster offers Isiah up to be the coach it's just a ploy to somehow get him removed from the organization quickly. If he becomes the coach and they lose then they feel theorectically he'll be out just as every other Knick coach of the last two years. ABSURD.

It goes against everything Isiah learned from the Indiana situation. When you're in charge of the entire organization you're in control of your sitaution. Why would he throw that away. Silly

He might be up for an assistant job.

You get all the grit without the risk of learning on the job.

i don't know one person outside of the pistons orginization in the 90's that did'nt HATE laimbeer. including myself. nor can i think of anyone else that was more hated in the nba than him. including rodman (close 2nd) and artest. i think i even puked once...anyway, that my fellow knick fans is the main reason why i believe he'll be the perfect fit for the knicks. that and i'll have to admit that i did watch a couple of Wnba games when bill was on his way to a championship after pulling that team out of the gutter. they did'nt even make the playoffs the year before bill got there.
people all over the country, and possibly the world hate the knicks and yankees. some just for fun. yes he was hated, but that guy worked his *** off on both ends, and knows the game. that's what we need.

If Isiah doesn't hire Laimbeer and allow Herb to return as a coach, he will deserve to get fired if we don't do well next season from the first 30 games. I am sorry, Herb didn't do a good job at all in my opinion....We need a guy that can come in and command respect and hard work from all of our overpaid primadonas....One thing is for sure, Houston would be on the court if Laimbeer is hired....

at this point, i say Eric McMillan is the best choice available (unless he resigned over the weekend & i wasn't aware)...Laimbeer would be a nice assistant to join the team next to Aguirre...then Isiah can have 2 of his ex teammates to choose from when he has to fire McMillan next year after the roster he put together doesn't play up to their abilities.
