This is Hughes' 7th year in the league, and only now is he consistently getting it. He was all over the board before that. Crawford has some elite skills...top notch ballhandling ability, and when set, a very good shot. He's got some decent secondary skills as well...he can read passing lanes and come up with steals. He has shown flashes of playmaking ability. Give him some time. I can't believe people are labeling him a bust so quickly. He's not untradable, but we also shouldn't be looking to dump him.

Exactly; it's absolutely stupid to say that he's 25 and start thinking about giving up on him.

no way!

crawford, sweetney & kurt for sura, spoon and only the 23rd pick! you gotta be kidding me!
Wrong. What I proposed was Crawford, KT, 53rd pick for Sura, Spoon, and the 23rd pick.

No, I have been down on him since his Chicago days. He's atheletic, has great handle, and can shoot, but he's more suited for the AND ONE type of stuff. His fundamentals & BB IQ is so low, I was not happy when Isiah committed $$$$ for Craw and signed him until 2010!!!!He can score 50 when he has his touch and if he's allowed to play unorganised BB and shoot 30 times a night. That's not impressive to me. Because the flip side of the coin is what we have been seeing - him chucking 7 three-pointers a night instead of driving to the hoop.

this is a crazy question.

it's his first year here.

it took larry hughes, what, 6 years to get to where he is now? let's give him some years.
I'd say YES to that IF HE WAS A 2nd or 3rd year player in the league, BUT THIS IS HIS 5TH YR. He had 5 yrs to develop his body and his game and frankly I truly believe that he is a type of person who doesn't have that sort of discipline in him. Hughes took 7 yrs? So you are ok to wait for 2 more years while Craw continues to be a defensive liability and immature/dumb offensive player?

I get that this trade proposal is a bit extreme. But I'm not sold on Craw and I want him moved. In order to win a BB game, you need to play orgnaized as a team within a scheme. We need player who knows how to win, and what he needs to do. Having 2 players in Marbury and Craw who play flashy BB but no defense isn't gonna work. Isiah won't move Marbury. Then move Craw. Bring in players who learned discipline in college and how to win.

Personally, I don't believe that Crawf will never fit any system. He is an undiscipline player who really never learned how to play the game properly. Can he ever learn the right way? yes he can, but he will have to be under the guidance of a guy like Larry Brown or Phil Jackson, guys who will not be affraid to sit his ass on the bench for many games when he refuse to realize that he is a horrible 3 point shooter.

No. I would trade him if we could get anything approaching value. I just doubt he is ever going to play defense.

I wouldn't trade Crawford by himself for Sura, Spoon and the 23rd pick. Weatherspoon? How could you want Weatherspoon even for contract expiring purposes?

Scoring 50 isn't impressive? Almost everyone that has scored 50 has seen PLENTY of touches that game. Name me 10 players playing now that have scored 50 once. How long did it take you? Are there even 10?

How is Crawford suppose to learn how to win when the WHOLE team doesn;t know how to win? Look at every year he has played, his bad shooting percentage has been during the last 3 years(including this year) out of his 5 year career which also concided with the increase in minutes. When you have less minutes you know a lot more what is expected of you and your role. Once he started playing 30+ minutes in CHI it isn't as clear cut especially on a team that had bad coaching and no direction. I mean we are talking about Chicago, full of rookies, with no direction(back then), I say you really got to give him 1-2 more years before you can write him off.

It's almost like his rookie year was this year.

I mean when he is on his shot looks so effortless. He is definitely a special player and you don;t give up on talent like that so easily.
Especially for Sura, Spoon and a crap pick.

Crawf problem is the fact that he doesn't know or better yet, he has no clue about what his strengths are. If you give Crawf 15 shots per game, out of the 15 he will only take two shots from inside the 2 point range. He is a horrible 3 point shooter, but he has yet to realize it. Here is a quote that will illustrate what Crawf problems as a shooter truly is "What I learned from Reggie is that, as a shooter, you’ve got to keep your confidence. No matter how you may be shooting the ball on a particular night, you have to believe the next one will go in.” You have to believe that the next one will go in.....Is he crazy???? Even Reggie knows that when his shots are off he has to do other things to get himself going. Reggie may not attack the basket like he used too, but if he is given 15 shots, he will not take 12 shots from long range. He will shoot from all over the court. At the end of the day, out of 15 shots, the stat sheets will show that he only take shots that he has going in for himself. If Crawf really wants to learn the game, he needs to come to the conclusion that he is not a 3 point shooter. He needs to get it totally out of his system. He needs to improve his midrange first, and then work his way to the outside.

"Crawford just shakes his head at the mere thought of his maddening match-up. “He’ll want to go out with a bang that’s for sure,” the young two guard smiles. “The thing about Reggie is that, no matter what age, he never stops. I’m going to have a tough time chasing him through all those screens.”

“I try to learn from everybody,” adds Crawford. “What I learned from Reggie is that, as a shooter, you’ve got to keep your confidence. No matter how you may be shooting the ball on a particular night, you have to believe the next one will go in.” http://www.nba.com/knicks/inthepaint/ariza_050404.html

I'm glad at least you are happy to have Crawford as a Knick. I'm not. He may learn and become a controlled/consistent offensive player who also plays tough defense ONE DAY, perhaps in the next 5 yrs when he is 30? All I'm saying is that he is way overpaid and that he is a defensive (and often offensive) liability and lacks discipline. Just look at his body and the style of his play. He's 6-5 and weighs just 190. It's his 5th yr, but he has not bulked up at all - ZERO EFFORT. There are other skinny players like Rip and Reggie, but they more than make up for it with their endless energy and movement away from the ball. They're decent defenders as well. Craw doesn't move like Rip does. He can't defend. He doesn't drive. He only goes to the line 3 times/game. (Reggie at the age of 39 goes to the line 4 times!) If Craw's a professional, he should know that he needs to bulk up and that he needs to attack the basket. I don't give a sht if a player score 100 if the team doesn't win. He's got good skills, BUT HE IS DUMB LOSER.

I don't think that Craw has been the same player since the turf toe injury.

I don't know if this was meant to be funny, but this line just cracked me up when I read it.

I really didn't want to get involved in this argument, but this paragraph is ridiculous. I think we all throw around the term overpaid way too much here....EVERY player one EVERY team is overpaid when the impact of what they do is taken into consideration. But aside froim that argument, If Brian Cardinal is worth 42 mil, and Adonal Foyle is worth, what 50 mil?, Marquis Daniels is making close to the same as Craw and is always getting hurt and not putting up close to the numbers.

Jamal Crawford makes about 10% more than the average NBA player. He is NOT overpaid by NBA standards. For a young player with his skills and potential, he's worth paying slightly more than the average player.

I agree with that. I got on Houston for not moving well enough without the ball but at least he tries but just isnt as quick as rip and reggie. Crawford is but he chooses to camp out at the 3pt line all game!

Craw 's scoring is average is 16pts on 38%......that's all shot selection. He would go on a tear where he is taking terrible shots and making them....then go on a equal slump where he is missing those terrible shots.

There was a stretch when he was under control but he wasn't shooting the ball at all. He was getting alot of assists during that stretch.

Craw is confused on what his role is. What should he be doing on the court? He needs to be Marbs equal. Maybe next year after having a whole season together they could mesh.

On the flipside look at how fast Jason Richardson meshed with Baron Davis!

Will this work? It's in Craws hands. He is the one that needs to just play basketball. He get's into this thing where he will come down do his predictable set-up dribble and let a jumper fly or he will dribble to the corner and just chuck up a shot with the defense already turned about to crash in for the rebound.

No way do you win with Craw as a 6th man.....that would be stupid. Craw needs to be the guy in the starting line-up working just like Marbs. He's 25 this year. How good is he really?

Dude! are you ok? Craw can not play the same role as Marb...This team needs a creator like Marb, Crawf's should be to backup Marb when need be and backup the SG when need be also. Frankly, I do believe that this is what is confusing him. He thinks that as a SG he must always be the main scorer, which in my opinion is a mistake. Craw is not suited to be a main scorrer, at least not with the percentage that he is shooting the ball. Until he learns shot selection, which may never happens, he should always be limited to no more than 7 shots per game. Oh, you watch, he may just use all of the 7 shots from taking poor long range shots instead of 18 to 20+ jumpers....

He has been like this all throghout his career so far...He may never change...

Why can't Craw work as a 6th man. He has a lot of skills that good 6th men have. It would at least be worth trying if the team acquires an SG who is good enough to replace him in the starting lineup.

How can the Knicks get a player better than Craw without trading him?

If anyone is talking Craw being a 6th man then the only way that would work is if Isiah drafts a shooting guard or if Houston comes back and pulls a Hubert Davis role where Craw would get starters minutes anyway.

What role do you guys want Craw to play? Do you want a guy that gets 35 plus minutes to play ahead of Craw? If that somehow happens....that leaves roughly 25 minutes if they run a 3 guard rotation.

Sura is a good 6th man. The Knicks could trade Craw and KT and get a bonified 2 guard and then sign Sura or draft a back-up. That makes more sense....to me at least.

is your idea to trade those guys for Ray Allen in a sign & trade? Are you willing to give Ray Allen the max contract he's seeking & be saddled w/him for the next 6 years?

Sura's not a FA this offseason btw...he's signed through next season.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.
Should Crawford be part of Knicks' future?
