Gee - all the coaches think KT's a good defensive player. Frazier thinks he's a good defensive player. Some fans on this board don't think he's a good defensive player. Let's see who do I trust more...

then why have we unsuccefully been trying to trade him for years but no one wants him? even when his contract was small! He has been extremely overrated the past 4yrs by the organization and a lot of by a lot of Knicks fans.
Because Isiah is trying to get more than he can for KT! I know you dont like Kurt but he is not like Houseless. He does rebound and play some defense!

i see what you're saying about tough love but there's no way 20 mins is enough for sweetney. he needs to minutes to LEARN how to play through fouls and find out if he can handle the load of 30+ minutes. there's only been a handful of games where he's gotten it and more often than not, is sitting the majority, if not all, of the 4th quarter.

i say throw him to the wolves and let's see what's up.

ariza is 19 and has a long way to go but even he should be getting 20+ b/c he's all out hustle on the defensive end from the SF/SG position. we don't have anyone else like that from those spots.

but sweetney is a 2nd year player who has shown that he can dominate at times - be it on the offensive glass or in the post. yesterday was a clear example of how he should've played more at the end and in overtime.

1) You have no idea how seriously the Knicks have been in pursuit of trading KT nor what they have been asking for him.
2) All the coaches the knicks have had have played KT and particularly at the end of close games - including Van Gundy who is nothing if not a coach concerned with Defense.
3) Isiah signed him to a long term contract. I doubt it was because he thinks he is a poor defensive player.

Not to Knock Sweeney I like the kid. But if you're going to infer the KT must be a bad defensive player because the Knicks have been rumoured to be trading him and you don't even know what they're asking - can't you also infer that maybe the coaches and everyone else in the organization questions Sweeney's ability to play good defense because they never let him play at the end of games. You may not like Chaney, Wilkens and Williams - but they see these guys play more then any of us and they need to win to keep their job - you have to wonder why they all have been bringing Sweeney along slowy (Obviously with ITs approval - else he would have brought in a coach with a different philosophy.)

KT - plays because he deserves to play.
Sweeney - is improving and will get more minutes as he earns them.

Kurt is an ok defensive player. the biggest reason i dislike him is because he really drags the team down offensively because he has no skills especially during 4th quarters when teams actually get in your face. And he's too unathletic to go after offensive rebounds.

I would have no problem seeing Kurt on the bench for a good team and contributing. If he's a starter on your team you are in big trouble. this is our 3-4th year with 30wins with him as a starter. I don't care how you look at it but a guy who gets 36mins a night is at least part of the reason why this team has been mediocre.

Scott Layden drafted Sweetney so that could be why so many are hesitant to put everything they have into the guy. Sweetney is a good young player who seems to hold a great deal of the future in his hands, we don't disagree with that. we just need time

I dont think thats the reason. I think its because people look at his minutes each game and assume that he is in foul trouble every game when that is not true.

I don't think Layden was bad at drafting.

Remember he was not the one who drafted Weiss, it was Tapcscott right before he got fired.

We going to lose this game because Sweetney was taken out after Kurt demanded that he get put back in game. But at least I was reminded that Sweetney is clearly ou best PF now and in the future. Sweetney singlehandedly got us back in this game and then was taken out for Kurt with the game tied with 4mins left. Played only 19mins scored 12pts grabbed 10rebs and at no point was he in foul trouble and was still pulled from the game!
