I assume we're talking about who the best jump shooters are, right? OK, this shouldn't be too hard to settle. Let's wander down to 82games.com...
The following is a list of players on the roster, ranked according to their eFG% on jump shots. (eFG% basically takes the extra point from a 3 pointer into account, instead of tracking a separate stat for 3FG%... so if you shoot 2-6 from 3, you wind up getting 6 points on 6 shots. To get 6 points on 6 shots shooting 2 pointers, you'd need to go 3-6, or shoot 50%. So the eFG% for going 2-6 from downtown is 50%.) I'm leaving off Butler and Jackson, since they've barely seen any action. The format is Player - eFG% on jump shots - % of FGAs that are jump shots
1) Houston - .490 - 98% 2) Taylor - .478 - 51% 3) Marbury - .466 - 63% 4) KT - .462 - 90% 5) Crawford - .459 - 86% 6) TT - .459 - 71% 7) Penny - .428 - 83% 8) JYD - .375 - 36% 9) Sundov - .371 - 84% 10) Rose - .341 - 58% 11) Sweetney - .327 - 34% 12) Ariza - .311 - 53%
A couple of things to notice. For one, Mo T has been a surprisingly accurate jump shooter this season. However, he hasn't attempted many FGAs, and only about half of those come on jumpers. Basically, it looks like Mo T picks his spots well, which helps out his eFG% a lot.
Also, TT's eFG% on jumpers is hurt a lot by his early season struggles. Even with that big handicap, he's elevated his eFG% to a respectable level with his positively outstanding shooting since roughly around with trade deadline. By way of comparison, last year he shot a .471 eFG% on his jumpers, which constituted 74% of his attempts. If we take this into account, TT's rank jumps up a fair bit.
So let's remove Houston from the discussion, since he hasn't been much of a presence this season. Part of being a great jump shooter is presumably shooting lots of jump shots, both in terms of % of your shots attempted on jumpers and raw number of jumpers attempted, which hurts Mo T's standing a bit. From the above considerations, using a rough, by eye judgment of the numbers, I'd say TT is out best shooter, KT and JC are roughly tied for second, Marbs is third, Taylor is fourth. But it's pretty close. No one out of TT, KT, JC, and Marbs really stands out.
