Wow, now we're going to talk about Isiah letting Demarr Johnson go? Talk about really letting some bigtime talent go there. I think we all saw Demarr Johnson last year and he did NOTHING to prove his case with the playing time that was given too him. Joel Pryzbilla will NEVER be anything more then a end of the bench player in this league. Anyone can put up numbers on a bad team, heck look at Nazr Mohammed this year and Erick Dampier last year. I'd rather Isiah take a chance on a 19 year old kid who was supposed to be a first round pick coming straight out of highschool then taking a chance on Joel Pryz who has yet to show anyone anything near the reason he was made the 9th pick in the draft 5 years ago.

Pryz is an unathletic tall slow player. I think he's reached his potential at 6 PPG and 7 RPG (unless he gets huge minutes on an awful team). He's been in the league many years and never shown that he's capable of being more than a mediocre role player. Butler, in contrast, is a very athletic 19 year old. You really think the high end of his upside is to become a Pryzbilla type player?
I think I also said that Butler and Ariza combined have more upside than Pryzbilla

Thats nice. Conveniently ignore actual facts showing that Pryz is averaging 8.6 pts, 10.2 rebs and 2.4 pts in a starting role for 35 games. Yet somehow his potential is 6 ppg and 7 rpg. Maybe Portland is not a good team, but you can't deny that they have a talented roster, and several good players up front (notice he was starting before Randolph got hurt). And as BRIGGS mentioned earlier in this thread, its not like people just stand around waiting for you to get a rebound or block a shot, whether its a bad team or not. Yet somehow his potential is 6 ppg and 7 rpg.

Combining Butler's upside and Ariza's upside really have nothing to do with discussion anyway. Getting someone like Pryzbilla would've been nice at the start of the season, when we had no real backup center, and none that could block shots. He showed enough rebounding/shotblocking potential in his late year stint in Atlanta to merit a look. This was a guy available for the LLE.

Read more carefully. I said his potential is 6 and 7 "Unless he gets huge minutes on an awful team" (which he's currently getting). I'm not at all surprised that as a starter on an awful team he's putting up "Nazy Mohammed-like" stats

Apparently 29.4 minutes is a HUGE number of minutes? And do players on opposing teams sit and watch him get rebounds and let him block their shots? This is a guy who earned minutes over Theo Ratliff etc, so don't give me the bad team argument. And since when did Nazr Mohammed get 2.4 blocks per game...or only earn the LLE?

Again, you fail to address the central concern...the fact that we should've gotten a playable backup C at the beginning of the year, and that quality players were available for relatively little and no risk. NOt just Pryz...Stephen Hunter, Zaza Pachulia, Melvin Ely etc.

I've said enough of what I want to say here....

Przybilla is more atheltic than you think.

How is Butler Atheltic? You have seen him play for more than 1 min? The guy is extremely overweight but wait..Butler is black so he has to be atheltic.

Does that mean Cedric the Entertainer can compete in the Olympic Decathalon?

Well after watching tonights game where Butler ran the floor albeit it was only for 2 minutes, he ran the floor very nicely. I'd say he's got some more athleticism then Joel and he doesnt look overweight at all out there. Now Mike Sweetney on the other hand..

Him and Anthony Anderson have 4 gold medals in track and field.

why the big deal about signing pryz? I mean he is the type of guy that you sign on a team like Miami, detroit or SA, a guy who can come in and play a effective role... As for the knicks what in the world is pryzbilla really going to do for the knicks? I mean really, the knicks need to find good players who can potentially be fantastic players, pryzbilla is what he is, a guy who will get 7 points 5 or 6 boards and a couple of blocks. We take a flyer on Butler because he has the potential to do a lot more, or he can do a lot less, but either way for the knicks it is the chance that is best suited for the knicks. We need players with a high ceiling. Butler is 6'10 255 and 19, has good hands, good agility, and has shown good overall skills even if it is in the NBDL, but there are some scouts who do believe that he has a lot of upside. As any GM what is the upside of joel pryzbilla and I guarantee you they will probably tell you, he has reached that level now, don't be fooled we are not looking at Brad miller here...
The knicks are in a position to take a chance on a guy like that....

Newsflash: Most threads turn into slugfests about stupidity once they have thirty plus replies. I can proudly say that I have not once contributed to a stupid slugfest, though!

that wasn't just a good line, he's been on a tear the last few months. Tons of double-doubles and 4 block games. He would be a nice center to have if he's the best you can do. Heck of a lot better than steven huneter & gadzuric
