you never want to trade a guy for the sake of a trade, I would trade sweetney, and I'm sure we can get something better then curry if we package him with the right person.

curry lost 20 lbs last offseason to get where he is now. and we don't know if it's a contract year thing either.

sweetney can do the same. if he gets down to 255 for next season, he can dominate his position on the offensive end. so i'd probalby give him this summer to see how dedicated he is to losing weight.

this isn't a trade for the sake of making one...it's to fill a gaping hole at 1 position & dealing from a glut at another...both players have upside potential.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

exactly; it's not only to fill a gaping hole, it's also to trade a replaceable player (Sweetney) with one who has the potential to be a star big man. We're never going to be bad enough to get a top 2 or 3 draft pick. Our best bet for getting one or two potential all-star big men is to trade for them, especially if you can do it by trading replaceable players for them.

you don't give a guy a massive contract based on potential. that's setting yourself up for a disaster. curry will want huge bucks, and he'll get it from someone. i agree we may have to trade to get our center of the future, but either pay for a sure thing or get someone under the radar, not overhyped curry. we're better off with sweetney at this point.

I used to like curry, but watching him closely the whole year, the guy does not seem to like rebounding at all, his defense is shotty, but he is a gifted scorer who can score down low with power..

sweetney is a good rebounder but the guy has very little lift, therefore he has to headfake and trick guys to get his shot off, I mean he just does not seem to have the abililty to post a guy and just go over him for the shot.. On defense sweetney makes some stupid fouls, just stupid, I think he will be a good player, a good starter? that is still up in the air for me..

Yea, the only thing holding Sweetney back are these idiotic fouls he picks up. The team under Williams really gets the ball to the post alot more, but Sweetney is only inactive when he picks up silly fouls then he has to either sit on the bench or play tentatively. If he could only learn to keep away from foul trouble he would be the best weapon this team, Marbury included.
