Little things make a big difference in the long run. Like someone said before Breakfast is very important.
What people dont realize is that when you dont eat breafast or skip meals ( or just basically wait long periods of time b4 meals) the body actually aborbs and stores more from the food that u do eventually eat.
i think someone asked about how u can get calcium if u dont drink milk? You can get calcium supplements. Like Viactive...its liek it come in chocolate & caramel and only like 20 calories. Which is a nice treat if you're on a diet. Ok-this is where i sound liek the bio major i am, but testosterone actually protects guy's bones from losing calcium. Thats why girls like me have to take calcium because in women, estrogen doesn't provide any protection for bones, and we have to take calcium all our lives, not just when we get old or whatever.
But as far as milk...studies show that LOW FAT dairy products actually help you lose weight. Try switching to 1% milk. I couldn't do 1% right away but i started with 2% and then eventually i was ok with 1%. Its a small change.
As far as exercise, you can in addition to regular exercise, do a little extra walking. That helped me, i stopped takign the bus to school cuz i was sick of waiting forever for it, and eventually lost a couple of lbs & saved a few bucks.

Breathing- to really maximize the effect of your exercises, make sure you pay attention to your breathing. Like for example when doing situps, exhale as you sit up and contract your muscles and inhale as you relax.

anddddddd whatelse....if u ever feel like eating junk foood....try eating an apple or something really nutricious. Ok you're probably thinking ...if u wanted to eat the apple you'd eat that and not the junk...but the reasoning behind it is that if u eat something which is filling before the junk...chances are you would feel more full and would eat less of the junk . Thats why u just cant have one chip...because it doesn't fill the nutritious void.

basically the little things can go a long way.
Good Luck!

thanks for all the great suggestions.

should i be doing interval training (like fish does) or should i jog for a long stretch. like below:

plan 1:

10 mins light jog
20-25 mins interval (1 minute hard run, 1 minute rest)
5 min cool down

or

plan 2:

30-35 mins jog (varying speeds) on the treadmill

which would yield better results? for the time being, i need to use the treadmill b/c when i used to run on pavement, my right knee would start to hurt.

secondly, i want to devote at least one day to in home training, like pushups and situps. what type of pushup workouts should i do and for the ab guys - what type of ab exercises can i do at home (without all the gadgets)?

thanks again.

as for diet, i'm now eating a bowl of cereal every morning with 1% milk and i'm trying to cut back on the meat during the day.

If you want to lose weight quickly, the interval training is the way to go. Prolonged jogging is probably better for building cardiovascular endurance.

I didn't pay close attetion to the "HeartsReezy" part of the name to guess the female part

Welcome Mins! Always good to have the female balance around.

Reezy! great to have you. To many dumb boys around here (starting with me)

She mad a great point that I didnt mention. Even little changes, like no soda, or instead of Sprite drink Fresca, instead of Snapple or Arizona drink Vitamin Water, go with italian or o&v instead of creamy dressings, chili-yogurt instead of sour cream, instead of butter fry your homefried potatoes in grape seed oil... tons of little things that add up to huge amounts of sugar and bad fats at when you look at an entire week

if i'm going to bust out the summer 2003 allen iverson's (which i haven't worn yet) to play ball, i need to trim down.

i'm 6'1" and around 205 (30 years old)
i need to get back down in the 190 range

i let myself go over the past full year.

what do i do?

i work a 9-5 in manhattan and live out in queens.

i have a treadmill at home (can't run on the pavement b/c of my knees)

what kind of workouts do you guys do in terms of weights and cardio?
how many days a week? for weights, what workouts do you do (i got a membership to bally's)? how do you rotate (reps/sets)? same for cardio.

Good luck losing the weight. I need to do a lot more of that then you but what has worked for me in the past:

1) Running - do slow and steady for a while then intervals when you're in better shape. I never did much sprinting but I found 1-4min hard with an equal or less rest period was an excellent conditioner and I think burns a lot more calories then steady speed running.

2) I'm not a big lifter but when I when I have done it I found it helped losing weight. For me the power lifts - bench, squat, Deadlifts and modified olympic lifts Clean and Jerks, Snatch - worked best. If you haven't done Jerks and Snatches - get someone experienced to help you out (in the modified version you do less weight and aren't squating all the way down to get under the bar.) Even light weights in these exercises are a lot heavier then what you can do with body building like Isolation exercises - you burn a lot more calories.

3) Cut back on the eating. I have trouble doing anything in moderation - so I have to take some items totally out of my diet - Sweets and Alcohol I try to totally eliminate. I try to make sure I eat a lot of fruits and increase the amount of vegetables. I actually find I do better eating small meals often - 5 or 6 small meals a day.

Hope this helps. I'm sure you'll succeed - so let us know how in a couple of months.

Quickest way to lose weight: amputation.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

When people say cut back on the eating, I would advise rather to cut back on the meats and dairy, and junk food, and focus more on the healthy foods. That way yout body won't sacrafice nutrients, which can happen if you cut back on the eating. Do not eat past 8 pm. Try to get to sleep and get enough rest so your body can recouperate.

LI - I respect your ability to be a vegan. Years ago -I did not eat meat except for fish/seafood for a few years and I gave up the fish and seafood for a while. But going Vegan really is a major life-style change and I applaud your ability to stick to it.

if you run 2 miles a day for 3 weeks and drink alot of water, i guarantee you that you will get down to 190

you can eat all you want.

trust me if you do what i said you will be 190 in 3 weeks

once you get down to 190 then you do cardio. no weights

isn't losing 15 lbs in 3 weeks a little unhealthy?

and by doing weights, doesn't that keep the lbs off where once you stop doing cardio, the weight comes back alot quicker?

this is the simple plan that i did for 3 years when i played ball in college. once i had to lose the exact number of pounds

it will give you a loss of 5 pounds a week wheich isn't unhealthy by any means. i don't want to make jokes but run 2 miles everyday for 5 days and i promise you will feel very healthy

but you have to drink lots of water and/or powerade to replenish your body fluids. that was the only factor you will be faced with

lifting weights add more weight.
cardio is to conrol your metabolism after you stop running as much

this has been tried and prove with religion. trust me

let me add that i may have something mixed up. when you say "doing weights" are you talking about building muscle or building strength?

if you are talking about building strength then you can work with weights. basic stuff such as dips, sit-up's, crunches, dumbbell curls, etc. (i take it that this is what you mean because this is what we did during bball season)

if you do decide to run 2 miles for 5 days out of the week (i did it everyday except sat. and sun.) then you will lose weight and maybe even lose muscle so looking back, i'd say yes strength training was necessary

i did it before i ate anything in the morning while drinking massive amounts of water all day and night. powerade while running.

it definitely works

yes, by weights, i mean strength training - i don't want huge muscles, i just want to get lean and cut.

today was my first day on the new plan - i figure i'd ease into it.

breakfast - bowl of cereal with 1% milk
lunch - salad with beans, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes and a splash of low fat italian dressing
dinner - 4 egg omelette

and drinking water all day.

for my workout, i did pushups (man am i weak!!!) and situps. both in sets of 10's around 5-6 sets apiece. i'm going to go the herschel walker route in the beginning.

followed by a 15 minute heavy jog on the treadmill (5.5 mph on a 2.0 incline).

one day down...a lifetime to go...
