Say What Nalod?
**My response
>>Herb should be given every chance to succeed unless we can can land Phil, Flip, or Larry.
Nalod, you can't have it both ways. How does embarking on the pursuit of so-called "high profile" coaches reinforce the idea of giving Herb an opportunity to succeed? [/red] **Yeah, its being done. If Herb kicks it to the second round, he might have a shot, but Isiah gonna try to get a big name coach. I said I like Herb, but rather have Phil! [/red] >>Phil has the presence and cred unmatched by any other.
Nalod - Phil had Michael Jordan. Then he had Shaq and Kobe. End of story. [/red] **Phil had a kid Named Jordan who could score and was selfish. He also had Pippen. Those two are not the makings of a dynasty. When they learned to buy into the system employed using ROLE PLAYERS as trusty side kicks, and trusted them, did they achieve greatness. They one using Billwenninton and Will Perdue in the middle. Craig Hogdes, Paxton, and Kerr are not your all star points, and Horace/Rodman were good at what they did. Making it all come together was not as easy as it looked! After Kobe-Shaq, what great depth did the lakers have? Rick Fox is what held that team together. It was the role players, and a master strategist who kept egos together, and players productive. Herb has not acomplished anythng yet.[/red]
>>Phil and Isiah should put it together and do it. Isiah has a lot of respect for Phil and they are both about improving the person first, then the player in them! Isiah has yet to learn this, and who better than Phil to teach it!
Nalod - have you ever talked to Isiah Thomas? Ever attended a practice? [/red] **Isiah has said in the press he could work with Phil. While I have not talked with PHil, I read his books. Isiah has made speaches about respect, values, and the honor of being a professional. Isiah has mentored some kids thru, but on the knicks he failed this year trying to get Marbs-Penny-TT-Vin to play up to their potential.[/red]
>>It should also pay big in the Starphuch catagory as the team will buzz under Phil.
It's already buzzing under Herb, why mess with success? [/red] **Season tix sales up cuz of Herb? Herb got endorsements? Gets 30 grand to make a speech? We won a few games against some teams not on the top of their game. No buzz, just some relief! The return of Coach Holzman apprentice home to the knics is a huge buzz![/red]
>>That damm cap being so high makes it so hard to really make fast changes!
Pay attention. The roster has been totally revamped while you were complaining. [/red] ** We could be much further along if we were not so out there on the cap issue. Im not saying bring it under and go for Yao! Just not be 21 % higher than the no. 2 team, or greater than double than teams like the Spurs! I paid attention, We get deeper and deeper in the hole. And while its nice to have the picks and confidence they can work out, we can also draft badly! It happens. [/red]
>>II hope that Isiahs moves are ones that Phil likes.
Nalod - you have it backwards. The President runs the show. It's the coaches job to get in step with his agenda. The Knicks have historically had turmoil in the front office. They are about to get it right and no you want to upset the chemistry by bringing in a huge ego?[/red]
>>To some degree, if Isiah cannot land a big name coach, keeps Herb, and if the bad luck/injury/bad drafts and trades don't pan out, its a nightmare job! I don't wish that on anyone!
Or are you pining away for Clarence Weatherspoon,, Shandon Anderson Howard Eisley and Chollie Ward? [/red] This year had promise. Not unreasonable to be a little over .500 was it? It fell apart on Lenny. Lenny coached more games than any other human, hall of famer twice!, and he crumbled under this team and stress. If you like herb, you dont' want that happening to him. Lenny outwardly handled things ok, a less experience man might not.
>>I hope he would stay on as an assistant under Phil. In any event this interm opportunity is good experience and looks good on the resume.
Nalod - what do you think of the job Lawrence Frank has done under interim circumstances?
[/red]**The nets just came off two runs in the finals despite Byron Scott's lazy coaching. Frank was a trusted hard worker and had a lot of respect from a team that has proven itself the previous two years and had leadership. This Knick team is still trying to find itself, chemistry is not there, and the frequent roster changes which are needed, will take time. I don't think the Nets-Knicks are apples to apples. [/red]
[/red] Its just an opinion, you got yours, I got mine. Pining for fatspoon, eyes, or shandon? No, but I want a lot more than what we are getting! I want this thing build young, with the ability to be flexible one day. Same as you Im sure![/red]!
