positives and negatives.

positives--pick up two 1st rounders, albeit late in draft

negatives-i thought they would get rid of kT in that malik rose deal
and I do not believe trading for mo taylor and spending all that extra $$ was to smart.

we pick up players who are probably under rated but we AGAIn have 4 undersized 4s and no 5.

I think I wouldve rather had attempted to just buy a pick instead of taylor by a longshot. we dont need him

The picks are going to be pretty low, so I hope we're packaging them in the future. I also think Nazr could've netted us more next year when his contract expires. We could have definitely done more with him if we traded him earlier this season also, but oh well. looks like we traded keith van horn and doleac for tim thomas malik rose and the last pick in this year's draft.
[/quote]

For everyone who thinks low picks suck, the last four last picks of the first round have panned out pretty well:

2004 - Indy - David Harrison C 7'0"
2003 - Dal - Josh Howard SF 6'7"
2002 - Atl - Dan Dickau PG 6'1"
2001 - San - Tony Parker PG 6'1"

We could easily find a good backup PG for Marbury. There is also the chance of trading up. Crazy things happen on draft night.

IT has me confused with this one. all that talk about not strapping the franchise to big, lousy deals anymore, yet bringing in two mediocre players reduntant with what we already have. at least one of the two will be bought out in the next two years, I predict. the picks will not be particularly good, Houston and SA are both up there, and they don't hold any extra picks from other teams this year that I could find. IT must have really liked what he saw at the college games to try to get such flexibility for this draft. it's a bummer it came at such another hit to our payroll.

at a certain point, we have to stop taking back crappy contracts to get what we want. we can't last with three or four of our roster spots devoted to players making well over MLE money who don't contribute and only detract from young guys' development.

I'm not gonna lie about the Spurs trade, I'm not too crazy about it because I think we could have done better with Nazr. However, I love the Rockets trade and I love the fact that we now have an extra 2 first round picks.

I dont know what the big fuss is about the knicks having no 5... we're not going anywhere this year anyway so whats it matter. With the acquisition of these 2 first round picks the Knicks should be able to trade up higher into the draft and like someone else said before, we could have 2 picks in the top 10 which is outstanding. I was never a big fan of Mo Taylor, he's got some talent but has never utilized it properly and Malik Rose was a excellent player a few years ago in the Spurs championship run, don't know what happened to him since then but maybe a change of scenery will help him get it back together? I for one am very happy about these deals, the Knicks are finally getting younger.

Terrible Deals. Knicks aren't winning for years and they have no cap space coming any time soon. They have 3 Undersized PF's and no centers. Big deal they get the last pick in draft. BIG DEAL!!!!!!! Not worth Rose terrible contract.

Isiah can spin these draft picks all they want but they not top picks.

Isiah is such a fool.

Spurs are laughing right now. That's why Spurs are where they are and reason knicks are stuck in a rut.

I'm not terribly excited by this. 2 first round picks, but very late ones, and we took some really, really bad long term deals back and we now have 5 power forwards on our roster (3 of which are undersized...remind you of last year?), no centers, and no backup PGs (not that the 2 we gave up were good). I'm a little surprised we didnt get a bit more for Nazr.

On the brightside, yes we can trade up, but would adding 2 late firsts get us that no.1 pick we need to draft Bogut? Man I hope so. The trade doesn't really make us any worse so we're not moving up that way...

Also: It's quite possible that Isiah will be able to package the Rose and Taylor contracts this summer or next year with the expiring contracts of Tim Thomas and Penny. I don't know I think Isiah did a great job today especially with the draft picks because they will be turned into a higher pick or good trade bait.

I figured. I was just waiting(hoping) for that to come out. Muhammad for Rose is worth the late pick by himself. Then you add in the contracts and thats worth another pick.

4 picks. Well it all comes down to what we do with them or who we pick with them before we can really judge the deal.

Okay, I looked it up and Phoenix owes San Antonio a future first rounder protected through pick 20 untill the year 2008 in exchange for Leandro Barbosa. So I'm guessing SA decided to take that pick and ship it off to NY. So are we getting both the Phoenix and SA picks this year or in seperate years? I guess its our choice for the Phoenix pick at least...

Ok now that its 2 first round picks it makes a lot more sense, I was wondering why we we're trading Nazr for only one first round pick along with a bad contract.

I like the deals, even though this guarantees we're not getting under the cap until the year after Allan Houston expires.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

How can you guys like these trades? You act like Suns,Rockets and Spurs picks will be such great spots. They'll get fringe 1st rounders. Big deal. Draft picks are overrated when you have no centers, undersized pf's,no cap room and no chance of winning with this group of misfits.

Knicks are screwed for years.

Hey, with Marbury & Crawford going to make around 30mil by themselves. Sweetney & Ariza probably getting bigger contracts. Plus the guys we were going to sign with the mid level & draft. I doubt we would have had much money free anyway after Houston contract was up anyway. If we could do some big things like draft quality players, or move up in the draft maybe for Marvin Williams, or make a trade for Eddie Curry then its a good move.
