I'd do the trade... love Marshall and Rose is an upgrade over Houston.

Knicks can't win with Houston and Tim Thomas... they both can't play and shouldn't... play that is.

TMS, I agree with what you are saying BUT, that is likely who Toronto would want. They don't have a need for K.Thomas.. maybe they'd take Hardaway just to rid themselves of Jalen Rose's contract. I'm thinking that Nazr and Tim Thomas would fit a need, as well as save them money.

Kurt Thomas can be shipped to San Antonio for a draft pick. That would make K.T. content as well being a Texas boy and all. Truthfully I'd rather get Nesterovic though, but unlikely. But the truth is we'd still be saving here as well. Teams want Kurt Thomas, just not at the asking price of our offers. However, if we did get Marshall,Rose and lets say Woods for Nazr/T.Thomas this wouldn't significantly impact our cap flexibility any more than if we had kept the original lineup. Think about it...

Mohammed, T.Thomas, 1yr remaining (Hypothetical Trade to Tor)
K.Thomas 4 yrs (Hypothetical Trade to San Antonio)

versus

Marshall free agent at 05
Rose 3yrs
Future Draft Pick via San Antonio
We'd still have Baker, Penny, Moochie, Sundov and Brewer with 1yr remaining on their contracts, or simply off the cap in 2006.

This summer we'd have the full MLE, our 1st rd draft pick, Marshall and Penny/Norris can be packaged somewhere... Maybe for Stromile Swift and we would be in good shape. Maybe i'm projecting a bit.. but honestly, this trade would'nt hurt us in either case.

Like I said.. I'd be happier than a homosexual male in an all boys town if we could deal away K.T/Penny and net back Marshall and Rose. However, I think a deal like this for NYK is TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!

FIREFLY,

Two words for you man. READ CAREFULLY! lol

Nah, the trade was Nazr and Tim Thomas OR Penny for Woods, Rose and Marshall.

That trade works under the CBA and would actually benefit all parties involved!

I like this deal. I'm down on Rose, but at least he plays to his size. His D isnt much to write about but he's not the soft sissy our current SF is. Marshall is great. He defends can play both forward spots, he's everything TT should be. Penny who needs you and KT shouldnt be our PF. Put Sweetney there, put Nazr there, I dont care. Give me a guy that will camp under the basket.

Jay, i guess if you can get Loren Woods & make that trade of KT for a 1st rounder, i wouldn't be opposed to that plan of action either.

fish, if you're looking for a PF to be camped out under the basket, then Marshall definitely isn't your man...he's a shooter & plays more of a 3 style game...you're right, he's everything TT should be but isn't, but you have to figure that Rose would be seeing alot of minutes at the 3 as well if that trade were to go down, so you'd have Marshall playing the 4 spot.

I love it!!! makes us the clear cut winner of the division and gets rid of Kurt and his long contract! making up for Jalen's contract. And Marshall is a very good player and cheap. I wouldn't mind Sweetney staying on the bench but playing significant minutes if it's for MArshall not Kurt. PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN ISIAH...I WANT TO SEE GOOD BASKETBALL!! NO MORE KT PICK N ROLL BRICKS!

I think Marshall would be a bench player. I'm not saying Sweetney would start just because I want him too, but it does make sense. I would probably bring Crawford off the bench also if I made that trade.

Thing with Marshall is he's a guy thats averaged 10 boards a game when he's got the playing time. DM can face up and put the ball on the floor some also. I think I would take Rose's deal to dump KTs, IF the Knick are commited to playing Sweetney more minutes.

I would do this
Marbury
Rose
Marshall
Sweetney
Nazr
with Crawford, TT, Houston, JYD, Ariza off the bench

I read that Philadelphia might be part of a 3 way deal, where Marshall goes to Philly. It doesn't say who the 76ers might be trading away.. but my guess is it would probably be Big Dog Robinson.

Would you guys do this?

Philadelphia trades:
SF Glenn Robinson
PF Brian Skinner
C Samuel Dalembert

Philadelphia receives:
PF Donyell Marshall
SG Anfernee Hardaway

Toronto trades:
SG Jalen Rose
PF Donyell Marshall

Toronto receives:
SF Glenn Robinson
C Nazr Mohammed

New York trades:
SG Anfernee Hardaway
C Nazr Mohammed

New York receives:
C Samuel Dalembert
PF Brian Skinner
SG Jalen Rose

Why are you down on Rose, Fish? He's been playing excellent basketball off the bench and he's been a huge part of Toronto's 7-2 month. If he keeps this up off the bench, he'll be a very strong candidate for 6th man of the year and would be better than many teams starting guards and SFs. Plus, he can play three positions.

this is made up sht. you really think that toronto would be taking on 57 mm and giving away 52mm? t was supposed to be close to a deal with Philly last week. bottom line is if we ever made a trade, wed be taking on atleast 15-20mm. i dont even take this as 1% serious

his contract, he's old, he's selfish.. I just dont really see the point. If we are commited to giving Sweetney the majority of KT's minutes than I do this trade. Otherwise I dont see the point. If it means we are in the lottery fine. I would rather have a shot at a high pick then have more 30 year olds with max contracts.

does it make us better in the short term? Yes... but we are a year away from really being out from so many of these bad deals.

Rose plays with passion, I will say that, but I'm really only looking at long term solutions at this point.

and then there is that factor. The deal makes like zero sense for Tor. They dont need a PF, they dont need Penny and they dont save money. Tell me again why this trade has a sliver of truth?

I was thinking about that lineup but first Sweetney would have to prove that he is ready to start and won't foul out every other game. Starting Sweetney over the flat-footed Kurt is one thing but starting him over Donyell is another. I would be happy with either lineup depending on how far Sweetney's game has come. If Sweets is truly ready than that lineup you proposed covers all the bases. We just need to trade Nazr for a 7ft shotblocker. Crawford would be a nice player to have off the bench....Rose is better than him NOW. If anyone is a bench player there, it is Crawford who is all potential right now. Jalen and Marshall are proven players.

Fish I hear you about the age, attitude and salary. But lets keep it in perspective here, He is better than Tim Thomas, Allan Houston and even Jamal Crawford (Right now, at least!) Trevor Ariza is arguably 2yrs away from being our starting small forward. Jalen Rose has the ability to play 3 postions and create real problems for opposing teams. If we could get him especially for Penny, you have to make this deal. Add Donyell Marshall to the mix for K.T then this is a NO brainer!

Honestly, I'd rather see Marshall go to Philly and NYK end up with Samuel Dalembert by the grace of GOD! Then you'd get your wish of Sweetney starting. But like you said, Philly would need more incentive to deal away their starting center.

there's no guarantee the players we get in the offseason will be better than Rose and Marshall. i don't think we have a shot on a big time player until after 2008 once Houston's contract is off the books

Hey, I'm new here.. came from the nj.com forums.

I really dont like this trade and its for many of the same reasons that you guys have already said. I really think this year is a lost cause, Isiah should NOT be making trades that he think will benefit the Knicks this year (unless Elton Brand or someone becomes available), any trade he makes should be made with the thought of the future. With that said, I don't want Isiah trading our prime pieces that would get us a young stud BigMan next year when a team (maybe the Clippers) looks for a salary dump. With TT, Penny, Vin coming off the books after next year thats about 30-35 million in salary that can be used to get that big man from a a slary dumping team. I don't like Roses game anyway, he plays no D and he's another egomaniac.
