no one really has the situation we have in the NBA so we can't really emulate others.

We can only do sign and trades for big name free agents, and we can do smart trades for other players. We need to use big expiring contracts wisely and see what they are worth to other teams. We need to use the MLE and million dollar exception very very wisely. We need to be able to scout talent better than other teams because we can get some young kids cheaply if we see something other teams don't. We have to use our picks wisely and Ariza is a perfect example of that. We will likely never pick high unles a team gives us their pick for a player or expiring contract, but wherever we pick, we need to make good choices.

We need to see whats popping in the CBA, probably nothing but we need to check.

Lastly, we have to take risks. We are kind of trapped with our cap situation and therefore have to take risks on players that can have a huge impact but are unproven (curry and Kwame come to mind). That is really the only way I see us improving and becoming a championship calibur team. A little luck and good health helps as well.

We are New York, and now players want to play for us. We need to get the best 3-4-5 players available for the MLE this off-season and make a trade or 2 and we could be a really good team. Next year Sweets and Ariza will be even better so that helps us immensely as well. We should be fine.

so following WAS's example is what we should have done...so in essence, let's SUCK for the next several years & maybe 1 day we'll have a team full of young players that are atop the weakest conference in recent memory who have no guarantees of winning a title anytime soon...good idea...wish i had thought of it.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

No ..what Wash did was get a compitent GM(Ernie Grunfeld ex knick gm) who understood where the trend in the NBA was going. He went after the tall long athletic players who could score and play pressure defense.

Phoenix in the WEST and Washington in the EAST.

Washington has young players that will play for 48 minutes 94 ft and will pressure you into turnovers. They have 3 biggs HAYWOOD, E.THOMAS and K.BROWN + HUGHES and ARENAS has to be the best back court in the NBA.
Antwan Jamison is just a unorthdox scorer that usually keeps oppossing team off balance. Washington bench is good with J.Hayes, J.Dixon and defense rebounder Ruffin.

Phoenix has suprised the NBA with "GREAT GM MOVES" acquring Q.Richardson and Nash from free agency, also Amare puts fear in any big man(including duncan) in the wester conf. J.Johnson has improved his play making abilites when Marbury was dealt to the knicks and now feels comfortable handling the ball.

Suns avg 110 pts per gm and shoot 48% as a team also the avg almost 6 blks a game and 7 steals.

S.Marion is the X factor, he is Mr everything for the Suns, 3pt shooting, Reb and defends+ he runs the floor like a gazelle on both ends. On the bench they bring in a young shot blocker Hunter who understands his role and fits in perfect when their defense funnels oppossing players his way and he blocks shots.

Zeke really needs to stop the bleeding and do what ever he can to give us an identity, right now all we have become under Wilkens is a "more talented" Don Chaney bunch.

Those teams are good teams but why not emulate a team that actually WON. These teams haven't proven anything but that they can with for 1/2 of a regular season.

Is there any reason that these teams represent something that can be achieved quicker then emulating any other good team?

Why so enamored with running teams? They're great to watch but a running team hasn't won in years and we have almost none of the parts to be a good running team. Basically, I don't see how aiming to be a winning running team, makes us get to the goal of winning faster then aiming to be any other style of team. I think we're going to end up setting the style based on what type of talent we can acquire.

Also, in my view the only consistent attribute of winning teams is the ability to play defense. That's the identity I'd like to see us establish.

it's no coincidence that washington is doing well and ernie grunfeld is their GM. ernia is GOOD. he had vision here but lost a power struggle with van gundy. dare i say, that if ernie won, we would've definitely been a better team for it. trading oakly for camby is a balls trade. and moving mason for lj was sort of ballsy also. only knock on him as a knicks GM was not using the draft wisely. but then he watches him team go to the finals in '99 two months after he was fired.

then he moves onto milwaukee and guides them to ECF.

and now he's in milwaukee after the whole jordan mess and put together a nice little squad.

he's one of the better GM's in the league.

People still don't accept that is the reason I hate Jeff vandummy with a passion. We would have never had the Layden yrs if Grunfeld was still in town.

good post man.

I was so pissed when Oakley was traded i cannot put it into words. However, I saw his vision as time progressed and Van Gundy begrudingly began to give him PT. It was a good trade, oakley was not part of our future. Camby meant alot for us.

LJ for Mason was a trade that was risky also but was worth the risk IMO. LJ could never get totally healthy tho. If he did, he would have been a beast. Even with his diminished physical abilities he demanded double-teams every time he got the ball in the low-post.

he sucked in the draft. We missed many oppurtunities.

Both of these teams played each other tonight, what a game Wash won 108-103 Nash didn't play for the SUNS. Q HAD 25, AMARE HAD 26, J.JOHNSON 23 Marion had 14pts 15 reb

Wash bench guy J.Dixon had 26 along with Arenas and Hughes had 22 Jamison had 17.

Wowgreat game!
