We’re probably going to have to pay somebody to take him off our roster… or package him as a salary filler in a trade…
Mark my words, not only will he not be on this team after this year he more than likely will be playing for a different team to start this season.
You may be right. However, let's give him the next training camp to see if he plays better.
SL was Dadiet's opportunity to claim rotation minutes.
If he couldn't stake his claim in SL, I don't see how he is going to do better in training camp where the competition is way beyond SL levels
Now do that for Mo and make it make sense.
I can do that for you.
Pacome has been with the club for two full years without claiming rotation minutes.
Mo started multiple times and had stretches with solid minutes during his rookie season.
Mo's body of work is still greater in half the time. Therefore, he gets a pass for now.
Training camp WILL BE where Mo can show SL was a hiccup.
Different narratives
Additionally, Mo was just locked in on a favorable contract. FO has to make decisions based on Dadiet's contract next year.
IOW, will Dadiet be worth having on the roster next year at $5M+ ?
Also very different sitch from Mo
Young guys get minutes when there is a rotation spot open. When it closed for Mo and Kolek, they did not get minutes.
Where has there been an open spot for rotation minutes beyond what we have seen where Dadiet will get that chance? It'll come when and where he is ready and the spot opens.
These have nothing to do with SL performance.
We'll have to disagree on this one, because I do think SL was crucial for Dadiet and significantly less so for Diawara
Crucial for who? The fans who don't get to see anything else from the players? I've never heard any NBA type describe the SL as crucial for a prospect in a meaningful way. Coaches and FO see him work out and play every day for the last 2 years but the SL is suddenly crucial? It's a barometer for some things certainly.
You have tacitly stated the you are AOK with throwing out SL performances, meaning that it is really not that crucial given other stuff.
Dadiet has not been a world beater in the time we have seen him. Strangely, the beat guys keep telling us that Dadiet is starting to get it and the coaching staff likes him; that's what we have read. He has been good in practice and has not had that opportunity to perform that way in meaningful NBA minutes. Time will tell. So will his contract and the second apron or a trade possibility.
We're all spitballing here because none of us know what the FO or staff intend for anyone.
That said, we can look for clues from public comments or leaked attributions, but that doesn't always mean what someone says. That is also open to interpretation.
I said earlier that comments about Dadiet's progress are just as likely thrown out there to generate interest in the league to trade him as it is a transparent take on how the club actually views him.
IOW, we're all speculating on his future. Taking any official or unofficial comments at face value is sometimes on the money and sometimes it is not.
Sports franchises play games of misdirection in their public statements or leaks all the time. It is part of the territory.
As for Dadiet, he could still have a meaningful NBA career, but I have no way of knowing that yet. If I had to bet on that today, I'd say he doesn't even if I see parts of his game that could lead to success in the league.
I'm just guessing his runway with the Knicks has almost run out. Perhaps you think he has plenty of time left to make his case. I do not.
His future salary is another factor that impacts all decisions made by the Knicks, which I also don't know how they vlew him and his future value at double the current price.
