One hint

I get that LeBron isn’t coming, but the Knicks could simply move Dadiet in a trade if they want to make a play for LeBron.

Yeah, I guess I'm a little lost on how this 'officially' ends the possibility, even if we already know it's not happening. Doesn't LeBron get subjected to the same cap hold as other vet mins like Clarkson or Valanciunas, even if the actual contract is scaled up based on years? Or are we just saying we're reserving the last spot for a C so LeBron doesn't fit?

Brunson, Clarkson, Alvarado, Deuce, Kolek and Shamet. You can convince me Hart and Bridges are no longer guards - kind of.

Trade TBD

Jordan Clarkson has become pretty big in the fashion since coming to NY. I think he realized the outside benefits sticking around NYC...but aside from that, he was an important and glad they managed to bring him back. Hope McCullar is next.

I wouldn't be upset if the Knicks bring in Kevin Love. Depending on match up, can play both 4 and 5. Good rebounder, passer and an outside threat.

A nagging hunch that Deuce won't be here the whole year. Side note, that would turn Brunson into our longest tenured player.

Change happens fast...

Seemed like we had an extra guard while Deuce was injured. Not sure if we are sticking with so many now or if a trade is likely.

I think they are just worrying about that later.

I'd think it could actually increase his trade value? Woould a team give an asset for a one year rental then he hits UFA?

While it does seem like incredibly guard heavy depth, I'm wondering if they're thinking about long term wear and tear on Jalen. If you can save him another 5 minutes a night, that's a lot towards maximizing his gas for the playoffs and even more years on the court. A drop from 37 to 30-32 mins a game, giving Jose more time and having Kolek in regular rotation and not just garbage time...that only helps the whole team.

That said, Miles and Tyler could be a package of perceived value for another big...now or later (esp if they both get reg quality mins).

McCullar fills a big hole on this roster for a big two-way backcourt player, basically Hart's backup.

He's a guy who can shut down scorers, services currently only provided by Wingstop.

At a minimum, I'd like to see him given a two-way deal to keep him in the Knicks plans.

But it is still early days and both Deuce and Dadiet look like trade chips.

That would leave 2 or 3 slots for another center plus McCullar.

WILD CARD: Kayil is now coming to SL. If he blows people away, he could be one who makes the roster. In which case, he may crowd out McCullar.

Or expedite a bigger outgoing trade with Deuce/Kolek/GTA

Yes, exactly

It would fall under the recently established protocols of the Mo Doctrine whereby a sleeper agent that shows immediate signs of rapid development into a key rotation player gets re-prioritized in the FO's plans.

This was evidenced by Mo being the very first order of business in the off-season which also confirmed the Knicks did stash him in order to re-sign him.

If Jack Kayil immediately shows out in SL, only then does this trigger an additional backlog in the backcourt. If Kayil's upside is Mo'ish, then you make room for him.

Kayil is 20 years old and 6'3" so he might still add an inch or two.

The size of our backcourt shifted a little with Clarkson back at 6'5", but it is overall still a small backcourt.

I doubt they trade our Nuyorican good luck charm after giving him a multi year deal, so if the backcourt equation is adding another guard it may be Kolek as odd man out.

On the fence: Deuce, Dadiet, Kolek

Variables/Unknowns: Kayil, McCullar

I feel like McCullar, the draft picks. Jemison are competing for two way spots. With the Knicks depth as is, no real way those guys are gonna be getting close to the 50 game limit for two way players. The last roster spots are two valuable to give those guys because you never know what kind of vets are gonna be released during the year and the Knicks are a prime location for guys who want to win a ring.

Depth Chart:
PG: JB, Jose, Kolek

Wings: Hart, Bridges, Shamet, Clarkson, Deuce

PF: OG, Mo, (Hart)

Center: KAT, Drummond

Dead weight: Dadiet

Sorry but I just don't see any path to minutes for Dadiet. I think Knicks can also run with Hart as a PF but when Drummond or KAT are out, Knicks are going to struggle on the boards. They really need to use that last roster spot to get someone who can fill for those situations.

Iirc Kayil is a bit short armed. I like what I saw but just noting. That measurement may have held down his draft stock some.
