Well this didn’t age well
Reverse jinx to perfection
Let’s talk OKC
Could be a bit premature but I think the Knicks, OKC, and Spurs are probably all in the same category of elite teams? I haven't watched the young Spurs at all so could be off there.
But we here. Knicks with this type of play is a 60+ win team during the regular season and that's what I would expect next year.
Or..... This team doesn't need to dominate in the regular season, and they are fine experimenting with players, lineups and strategies, and they keep opponents guessing till the playoffs? I don't know if any NBA team would think that way, or that is just silly talk.
KAT talked a lot about not feeling comfortable or whatnot in the system, pretty much all year long.
To me, the Knicks had a lot of learning to do and it started with Brunson and KAT and trickled down from there. They also put their foot down on the defensive side about halfway in too
It was always about Brunson and KAT calibrating their roles, because Josh and Wingstop don't need any adjustments. Those three are ready to roll and play off their teammates as long as the ball is moving. Look at Bridges. Whether he scores a bunch or not, he's fully engaged on both ends.
As far as experimenting and hiding your true method until the playoffs, I have never believed those speculations for one second. If a team is going to find their groove they do it as soon as they figure it out. There is no mothballing a secret strategy until the playoffs. That's for conspiracy nuts.
GS didn't wait to figure how to utilize Green with Curry and unveil it in the playoffs. They worked it out in real time and perfected it in the regular season. We're just late bloomers this season.
Brunson had to re-calibrate foremost. Without that, none of this would have happened. It took way too long for Brunson to concede more of the offense should flow through KAT, but I'll just say I'm glad he did before his stubborness sealed the team's fate. Until Brunson eased off on the ISO there was no way for KAT to be unleashed and for everyone to sync up.
KAT was already showing all of these behaviors with six weeks to go in the season. His whining to the refs dropped heavily, his stupid fouls were reduced significantly, his defense stepped up, his passing became elite and his efficiency was climbing. But to really unlock all that KAT has to offer with real consistency and the kind of intensity that leads to dominating team performances like we're seeing, Brunson had to loosen his grip.
Brown was right all along. I was right. It was an authority issue. Brown was trying to raise his kids right, but I think Rick stepped in and gave Jalen the business and set him straight and thereafter we've been dominating the court.
I was too harsh on Rick. He probably saved the season by telling his son to wake TF up and share the ball.
