The last few games KAT and Brunson have been able to do their thing both together and individually without detracting from each other.
Probably the best they have played together since KAT joined the team.
I passed out before the game even started, holy cow.
I am happy to read this update on KAT and Brunson
Clyde said during a game about 4-5 games ago that they had to sort out any issues in how they played and had to start trending upwards no later than the last several games of the regular season, because in his experience it is too difficult to work things out once the playoffs start.
I think we've seen that in two respects:
KAT has been trending upwards for weeks. This is the guy we traded for. He's playing smarter with less dumb fouls.
In the last several games, KAT has added extra sauce to his attack and he's applying force and aggression at the right times.
More importantly, his passing has been a thing of beauty. It is why I love Jokic's game. Seeing a big dime like this when you have that size advantage is a great weapon to have. KAT is big and long. On the first play he whipped a blind pass over his head to a cutter for an easy bucket. No small guard has the vertical clearance to do that over a defender. KAT is finally working the passing angles in ways you don't often see bigs do. It is special so the hope is he keeps doing it.
Someone got through to Brunson, because in the last two games his ISO work is cleaner and faster. Only once or twice a game has he overdribbled and had to yam a bad shot with time running out. This is opening up more ball time for his teammates and you see the results. Mikal is sprinting again and looking like he should. KAT is orchestrating and making good decisions on when to shoot and when to pass.
And in the last two games specifically, Brunson and KAT seem to be communicating better and increasing their intersections at the top of the key. KAT is screening and Brunson is making an effort to find rollers better, including KAT and Mitch. To some degree it may always be KAT and Brunson taking turns, but they suddenly started playing within themselves without stepping on each other's toes and leveraging each other a little bit more.
Better late than never.
