Unless the Knicks trade for him and give him 2-3 months to let that injury heal it just seems like a bad idea. Ready to move KAT but I think we have to stick to our standards of not trading for currently injured players. We are still looking for old vets past their prime (Jrue) which brings up many painful memories through the years as most did not work out (Vandeweghe, McGrady, S.Francis, etc). I really think we would be better served trying to acquire another solid defensive minded center as our best lineup needs a rim protecting center. Mitch, Hart, OG, Bridges and Deuce (and Shamet) show a different energy vs Brunson and KAT. If we move KAT we need Brunson for offensive purposes in close games but we still need a C that offers similar style as Mitch to complement.

Which C is similar to Mitch in terms of his play style, hustle, defense and rim protection? Kessler (hurt), Mark Williams, Robert Williams (hurt)? IMO that's what we should focus on if we are moving KAT as there is very few C's that rim protect and are great from outside (Myles Turner lesser but does both to some degree)...
We're running a system so why not be able to run it similarly and maybe add some depth in a trade for KAT?

We've been linked to Nick Richards and Yves Messi.

Giannis would definitely get some run at the 5 if we trade for him as well. Giannis is huge, no reason he can't play 5 in this system for 10-15 mins a night.

Giannis is an all time great. You take the chance. This team isn't good enough right now, we've seen enough to know that.

Zero percent chance we get Giannis imho. We do not have the assets to make it work even if Giannis publicaly says he only wants to come here.

If Bucks trade him, it'll be to Miami or Golden State or dark horse team.

Knicks vs cHeat for a star free agent or trade has never worked out well for us so not expecting that to change.

Giannis Antetokounmpo must be traded by the February 5, 2026 deadline to be eligible for a supermax contract extension.

If the Bucks are now willing to trade him I don't think they'd do him dirty by waiting until the off season.

It doesn't make sense that they'd entertain a trade now (injured Giannis/less assets in return) unless there is pressure to move him now from Giannis.

Everyone has something to loose, but a with a deal they all win in some fashion. Things could fall through, but saying they hold off trading him at this point is a leverage play at best.

Of note, this was news to me. Giannis just has to wait longer for the max extension.

I think ultimately we made need to create a package built around Mikal/OG rather than Kat lead deal.

Don't think Kat has enough value around the league - age, contract, no D.

100% true. It'll be the cost and risk.

For me, it's a 2 season risk outside of this one for Jrue. And his $37M becomes expiring during the 2027-28 season. SG is the one position that is most easily fill-able via draft or trade IMHO.

Giannis would have to move to C eventually. He seems like the guy who would work continuously on his 3point shot ala Brook Lopez. Strangely, he is shooting 39% on low volume this year.

Windows to win a chip are sometimes short. Many teams that make the finals only appear once or twice before they have to reboot.

Our core is in reality only three players AFAIC, Brunson, Hart and OG. Everyone else could disappear in a trade tomorrow.

Could you keep building with those three for the next five years? Perhaps.

But when a blue chipper like Giannis is within grasp to match up with them, you grab them and don't look back, because you could go years before another such opportunity emerges. By then, your window is long past.

False

This depends on how Giannis wants this to play out

If the word goes around the league he will refuse to extend with any team he's traded to that is not his preferred destination, that would effectively scare off teams from throwing assets at a deal for a player who would later walk.

What Giannis says publicly has nothing to do it. This kind of signal gets circulated through league networks, not the media.

If Giannis plays hardball and wants to be a Knick he will be a Knick

After this season I’d say our window is 3 years max. KAT, JB and Mikal are 29, OG 28.

Bucks are probably asking for all 3 Mikal, OG and KAT. F that.

As I said in game thread, OG is not going anywhere

Yes, we have yutes in the pipeline, but our starters/core are veterans in the primes of their careers.

Personally, I think the odds that Rose will get Giannis dwarfs every other team's chances. I say this because I do not put it past Giannis to hardball the Bucks. He's been loyal, but he's also hungry to win in a big market and he clearly wants to be in New York City, not Los Angeles. There are no bigger markets than either. He wants the limelight.

Also, Giannis would rake in enormous side earnings playing out his career as a Knick. It would more than compensate for any possible concession in salary if it comes to that and that is inclusive of state taxes. Being in Miami or Texas would not hold a candle to being in NYC.

Don't know if the Holiday rumors are true, but he and Giannis are very close so it would make sense both in terms of satisfying Giannis and creating backcourt depth. Jrue is a HOF PG and can still play well enough to make a difference.

KAT + Bridges outgoing is the basic math in this scenario

My biggest fear is acquiring Jrue would send Kolek away. I'm a Kolek stan. I think the guy is going to win a lot of games in the future whether he's a Knick or not.
