Tides have shifted. Used to watching watching teams like Lakers, Warriors, Heat grab the higher profile vet minimums as guys are ring chasing. Brogdon and Clarkson (as skeptical as I am on him) are two big gets at the minimum. Actually starting to feel like we're in that 'Contender' tier now.

IDK man, I LOOOVED Brogs back in the day, and I like him now, but not enough to trade someone for him. He's only played 41 games or more ONCE in the last 4 years. and the fact that he's settling for a non guaranteed invite makes me think teams don't like his medicals. He's a guy that could contribute for us but also just as easily could play 20 games and retire.

I wouldn't want to trade any of Mitch, Deuce, Kolek or Dadiet to make room for him.

Think we are better off just keeping one of the 3 guys we signed. I'm really shocked these guys are taking not only vet min's, but non guaranteed vet mins.

IMO Brogdon has the edge as he could potentially play 3 positions. Unless he gets hurt in camp knock on wood.

I don't see a trade that makes sense otherwise. Not gonna trade Deuce for draft capital while the team is looking to contend. Don't see a trade package of Deuce & Mitch for a player making $16mil as this will hurt the cap next year if he has more than a one year deal. And why would u have Deuce included in the deal where the return is a one year rental for the most part.

So I just see Brogdon beating out Shamet unless he is washed/injured.

are vet mins prorated? I wonder if we could bring back shamet at the ASB since the salary would be half or less at that point?

I'm sure this won't be a surprise to anyone as I've been pretty clear about my disdain for Clarkson, but I'd rather Brogdon and/or Shamet and ditch Clarkson. Low efficiency ball hog.

in a perfect world yes but Clarkson is more dynamic and can be counted on for more to stay healthy.

when you push the chips in the middle you give up a Kolek, Huk or Dadiet. It sucks.
But we have been lucky in some areas so one never knows.
Trading Deuce might makes sense if one one looks at where the minutes are?
He might want out also to earn his next deal.
We long been talking about package of Mitch/Duece and for that matter Josh as the price to go all the way?
Not sure why UTAH would do this but at the right price its logical. If he is our missing piece you do it.
Worry about next year next year. The window is open NOW!

As for Clarkson being a ball hog? Its his year to do the "fit in on a good team"? Shitty teams need to develop yoot so at some point at age 33 this is how he sticks in the league. If not, he gets bounced out.
lets be honest, his good looks not gonna keep him around!

Here’s 1 that works and would allow us to keep Brogdon + either Mathew’s/Shamet.

Mitch/Deuce/Kolek for Kessler/K-Anderson.

The vet signings replace Deuce/Kolek attributes and we get rim protection and defensive length with Kessler/Slow-Mo.

Doesn’t it depend on who/what you were getting in return for Mitch &/or Deuce?

Mitch hasn't gotten an extension -- we do have a history of trading guys we don't extend.

Sources: How Knicks might approach Malcolm Brogdon, Landry Shamet roster crunch

The New York Knicks signed Landry Shamet, Garrison Mathews, and Malcolm Brogdon to one-year contracts on Thursday and Friday. All three contracts are non-guaranteed deals.

As things stand, only one of Shamet or Brogdon could make the roster. The two would need to compete for the spot in new head coach Mike Brown's first Knicks training camp. However, some ‘expect' the team to make a move to clear space for both players, according to Stefan Bondy of The New York Post.

Shamet and Brogdon both had opportunities to sign with other teams but elected to sign non-guaranteed contracts with the Knicks, sources familiar with the situation told ClutchPoints. This could indicate confidence from both players that they will make the 2026 roster.

If New York does make a trade, one of their four rookies drafted in 2024 could be on the move. The Knicks have received at least one offer for one of their second-year players this week, league sources told ClutchPoints. The expectation of several league sources is that the organization will trade a player for draft capital to clear a roster spot.

Jalen Brunson, Miles ‘Deuce' McBride, and new additions in Jordan Clarkson and Brogdon would give the team depth at guard. This could logjam incoming second-year guard Tyler Kolek behind the group of veteran ball handlers. Moving Kolek could afford the 24-year-old opportunity that he would not get in New York. At least one opposing team has demonstrated interest in Kolek this offseason, ClutchPoints also learned.

Leon Rose's front office entered 2024-25 knowing that the Knicks' true championship window would open in the 2025-26 season. Drafting four rookies was an integral part of the Knicks' cap gymnastics last offseason. It allowed them to add Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns in the same summer. After an Eastern Conference Finals appearance and with the team's core starters secured under contract, it seems that it is truly ‘go-time' as the organization prepares for Brown's first season at the helm.

Last offseason, trade for KAT while depleting the roster. This year, sign too many solid vets and sort it out down the line.

feels like the consensus was we were in good shape but might need a year to flesh out the roster. We went to game 6 of the conference finals and run it back with a wildly improved bench. Im sure of course the coaching will be great

If we trade Kolek for a pick for example, would that give us the cap room needed to keep Brogdon and Shamet ?

"If the Knicks want to keep both Brogdon and Shamet, they will have to trade one of their own players to create the roster spot.

Trading either Pacôme Dadiet or Miles McBride would clear enough cap space to sign both Shamet and Brogdon. (There are other combinations of players the Knicks could trade to create the space to add both veterans, but those two are being mentioned because it would be the most direct path for the Knicks to take if they wanted to keep both vets.)

I’d be surprised if the Knicks made a move like that ahead of training camp. I’d assume that they let things play out in training camp/preseason before making decisions on final roster spots. It’s also worth pointing out that they have always held McBride in high regard and haven’t been receptive to any past trades involving the now 25-year-old.

As things currently stand, the Knicks have enough room under the second apron to keep a veteran free agent like Shamet, Brogdon, or Garrison Matthews and to sign a rookie to a minimum deal. The rookie needs to have been drafted by the Knicks. So the plan heading into camp is for New York to sign Mohamed Diawara to that rookie deal.

The Knicks have also had other veteran free agents in for workouts lately. Thomas Bryant, who played well against New York in the Eastern Conference Finals with Indiana, has been in New York for open gym workouts and really impressed the Knicks, per SNY league sources."
