Pacers beat us yet again. Drafted a solid player just a couple of picks later. Taelon Peter who can flat out shoot. Predict he will see minutes next year while Mataram won’t make team.

Are you Taelon's dad😏 Seriously, a historic day for hobbits worldwide.

They didn't draft Dunn last year. Dunn wasn't supposed to be able to play offense and he did alright. Maybe that's the logic. Maybe they can fix his shot, is their hope. I personally not too optimistic. Would have liked to have moved up a few spots for some other players. But let's see what the coaches can do.

I think they probably 2-way this guy instead of giving him a full contract.

Dunn still can't play offense. He had a hot start and then his offense shriveled up. This is less of a gamble at pick 50. That said, there were some cap machinations driving this pick as well. Dia might've already signalled he was willing to take a two way or get stashed in Europe, saving the team from having to use the second round exception.
I saw an article today where an exec explained that many of the guys in the second round already had deals worked out with other teams. Talent played less of a role with these picks than I thought

Yeah either 2-way or stash for a year.

No, just yours

Thread is about our opinions on Diaware right? Also like picks that can shoot. Taelon led NCAA at true shooting percentage and shot 45% from three. Pretty sure you have to be able to shoot to make a NBA squad. Not saying he is going to be great but seemed like a useful piece in today’s NBA. Don’t want to hate on Diawara but he seems awkward and did not impress at lower level in Europe. Seems like a Poor mans Frank Ntlikina.(couldn’t resist another shot at Frank. Do like him though)

Doesn’t really matter much though. Neither moving the needle but feel Diawara will not make many squads and will be back in Europe. Which is maybe why they picked him. High risk high reward. They don’t have room for mediocre.

I would have drafted one of the two Australian guys picked after 50 instead

this def looks like someone who picked up hoops late. Wildly long player. Nice thing about the Knicks is as top heavy as we are we can really use a few guys like this. Obviously he may need to learn how to play basketball first, but this is what you get at this spot.

Taelon came off the bench for "Liberty." I think Ron Baker when he came out of Wichita State would've violated that kid. Won't lose sleep over anyone else who got drafted in the 50s.

Yep - remembering a past turd most of us coveted - Jared Bayless. Jeez while we are at it how about sure things like Cam Reddish and can’t miss J. Okafor.

T Proctor went right before us I think at 49.

Not sure if he’s an NBA player but at that point I wanted to see if Knicks liked him if still on board at 50/51.

Second unit is shaping up. If we move Bridges or Hart to the bench, we should be in good shape. How efficient the second unit plays will depend in large part on having a real playmaker at the point. Kolek or a more experienced PG.

I get the feeling that Deuce will be moved in the offseason, especially if Hart is moved to the bench.

Trying to think of a visual body, frame and movement comp —- Chris Boucher is popping into my head but feels like there is someone else I can’t put my finger on it. He kind of runs a little hunchback — maybe a poor man’s Obi when running floor.

Don’t get me wrong Obi is a gazelle but stylistically a weird gate.

His semi hunchback look is what reminds me of Batum. Batum was also a physical specimin in terms of wingspan and athleticism who was kind of positionless- could guard 5 positions and sort of play all 5. He was pretty skinny coming into the league and filled out. Diawara can't shoot as well, but if he can figure out how to make a corner 3 he can play a Batum like role.

Yep Batum works for a comp.

What does one have to do with the other? They are completely different players playing different positions

Because Deuce is an undersized SG, and Hart can play that position. Give us more size, better rebounding, and ball movement. And Deuce was underwhelming in the playoffs this year.

Agree about upper 50’s.
And that Baker was a boss!
Got $5k that he scores more NBA points than Baker did!
Would bet more but can’t find the rest on the Monopoly money my kids play with .

Saw that. Liked the Aussie that went 52 as well.
Really don’t think they wanted to pick a 15th plus roster kid. Plenty of solid two way contract players available with experience for that. Not to mention our current youngins.
Probably went for the best high risk high reward pick. Looks like it was based on physical attributes alone.
