I mean, you are right. Outside of manage the offense, orchestrate and make passes creating easy buckets for his team mates, he doesn’t do much.

I'm not dying on the Kolek hill, one way or the other,but -1 in such a small sample size isn't worth mentioning. Even if you did take that number seriously, all it suggests is that his impact on the court is pretty much neutral.

of course.. it was meant to be as silly as Franco's take but pretty sure he takes that seriously. Who knows.

I was really put off by his fear of scoring. It was in the Ben Simmons zone. So I go on the interwebs to see if anyone else is thinking Meh and this isnt a good fit. Clearly Im wrong as he's Stockton like in his ability to run an offense, has been rotting on the bench, could be a Jeremy Lin if the coaches gave him burn. Its def me!

Kolek will be a great Payne replacement next year, for the cheap. He will have his "dime bag" in a "duffle bag" all next season. Right now, it's just "puff puff pass"

The "fear of scoring" is because if there is any defense on his shot it's just a quick "nope"

I think his 3 ball with time (see Deuce) will be rock solid - at least off the catch and off the bounce off a soft screen.

He can get some baskets creatively going to his left BUT they are often high degree of difficulty (high off glass or tough angles).

Think he really needs to work on going right and he needs a floater going both to his left and right.

Most encouraging thing I'm seeing is he is scrappy defensively, getting over screens but also you are already seeing vet teammates getting him the ball to get into the offense. Remembering Frank - the vets often just bypassed the French Prince because they had no respect for his game.

Kolek is a gamer don't sell him short - I think Deuce example is what we lay our hats / hopes on with Kolek.

Big paint for Kolek is that other than Brunson he's legit the only cat on our roster that can dribble/pass/chew gum with imploding with TOs, loose handles and or simply falling on the ground.

Highly intelligent, will learn where to score and like Deuce just needs to keep grinding on where/how to get his looks.

I think Kolek is more of a pg than Brunson.

I'm not sure why fish is picking on him - I've just wanted him to get- like Hukporti before he got hurt - a few more minutes just so our guys aren't burned out by the end of the season.

And on Kolek ever scoring - not entirely sure he can- he has Chris Dudley foot speed and that is not prime Chris, current 60 year old Chris Dudley!

But- if there is a bright side- he is playing with another PG that is not uber athletic, but super effective.

This thread is a little premature. On par with the "Tyler Kolek can't read" thread.

Comparison's between Frank N. and Tyler K. are unusual and a bit contrived. Frank N was a lottery pick based mostly on anthropomorphic metrics (read: long arms). 6'4 with a 7'1 wingspan. The sole basis for comparison is that they are the last two PGs drafted by the Knicks with a "pass-first" moniker. Getting drafted into a Triangle system did Frank zero favors.

All I am expecting is a guy that can hit the open 3 and open up an offense with his assists. But, in the second round, I worried then (and still do) that his defense is a weakness. In limited minutes, I see a guy rushing his 3, a little slow on his footwork on defense allowing much more athletic players to get an angle on him to get into the key. He recovers modestly well and is aware of passing lanes in a manner that allows him to deflect passes and get steals, but the on ball defense is deficient. I think his consistently negative plus minus is a product of his defense.

His passing seems to be contagious. Ball movement without Brunson has been top notch, though I do miss our captain. I do want this kind of ball movement to continue. I don't expect Kolek to turn into Steve Nash tomorrow, but I also don't think the upside is non-existent long-term. The floor-general skills are real.

We are in year 1 of 4. I want to see how this guy develops.

the bold is the part you cant get mate. Huk earned the time and looked good out there. Kolek has not. That's why he was not playing.

Im not picking on him. Im laughing at the box score watchers who see 8 assists and think he's John Stockton. He's cheap and locked up. Would be fantastic if he pops. He has yet to look good as a pro.

This is the problem I have with Thibs. Hukporti played earlier in the season - and when he played again, and started to get more time, I saw the same thing - a player who was decent on the defensive, better than Kat, that is for sure. There was no giant difference. So earned how? Earned because Sims was traded? Has Kolek earned the time the same way, that there is no other choice?

Dude is slow, but smart and savvy. He was definitely overwhelmed last night, but it’s not like he was the reason we lost.

His upside is probably no more than scrub that can fill in spot minutes.

I just wanted Thibs to not burn the starters out. I know we’re missing Brunson and now Payne, but the wheels seem to be flying off this car as we approach the finish line.
