Don’t feel there is a rush for either side.
If Randle plays well next year it’s good for both sides.
Randle will get more money, Knicks will have a successful season.
If Randle plays badly or gets hurt, the Knicks can live with Randle opting in to what is a reasonable final year or trade him as a valued expiring.

Best path is to play the first half and see how it goes. Feel Randle will have motivation to play well in show me year as a 29 year old looking for a large contract.
As we saw with IHart, sometimes other moves make it hard to keep solid players.
Ironically, many of those players were signed because Randle took less money in his last contract.

His current contract is a team friendly deal.

With him being 29yrs old, it'll be his last big contract. I say he signs on a slight discount similar to OG but nothing like Brunson

Lakers renounced and needed cap space for Lebron. They got something for the cap space.
They traded Davis. Had the lottery in Zion year, Randle plays same postiton and left for a bigger contract.
Randle in NYC, becomes allstar, all NBA under thibs.

This is not realistic. He is an All NBA player and an All Star. He will get the most he can get, especially since he took less last time. There is also no one who they can trade for, who will be a better fit. He's friends with everyone, he's an All Star PF, and deserves the max, whether people complain about his playoff performances or not.

OG is overpaid considering his lack of availability. I dont believe it will be Randle's numbers which will determine what the FO offers (unless his game falls off a cliff) but Randle's availability.

Agree. When defending Randle I often mention his durability. Rarely got hurt and puts in 35 MPG.
Hard to find that in players under $30 million who are All Stars. Looking at his stats last year, he was the top rebounder, ( usually is), his 2pt FG % was better than JB(only other player taking +10 a game) and second in assists as a PF.
Will be a tricky renewal. He is getting into that low 30 age horizon. Usually not a good one for most players in the NBA. Knicks have several younger players now that can help JB.
Randles argument will be comps (Sabonis, similar production, signed 4/186), he was probably promised more money for his next renewal during last extension where he gave Knicks discount, he may be asked to carry a bigger work load by also playing more at the 5 this year, Knicks showed in playoffs that they need a down low power presence and elite secondary shot creator.

Regardless, I still think there is no reason for either side to work on extension now.
Knicks should see how his shoulder healed and see how he plays. If he plays just okay or is not 100%, then he will have to opt in for his last year or can be trade mid season. If we keep him one more year it will be at a decent rate on a contract year and get probable bounce back production.
If he plays really great, we give that chip a serious run.
Knicks only risk will be that if he does play well, they would have lost a chance to resign a key piece at a lower cost and will have to find a way to replace him at similar value.
Which I think they feel they have already done by signing Bridges. Considering they traded several assets. Hope it’s the right one. Considering Bridges has not consistently produced like Randle has. Randle also seems positioned to have his best year with fresher legs from surgery rest. Especially if this high tier supporting cast stays healthy, IF he has more efficient 3pt shooting and IF he can cut down on his ball handling/turnovers. Lots of ifs but all reasonable goals.

He demonstrated inability on a depleted back court roster that lacked shooting to properly handle the double team vs. Atlanta.
His next playoff failure he played thru pain and needed Ankle surgery. Thats it.
Despite his post season awards he is not a max player. Not sure he is seeking this. We don't know what he wants.
I can see many scenarios where knicks keep him or move him.
He deserves a raise having taken a discount before. As long as its a tradable deal Im good. Maybe our long term destiny is to trade him for a 5 and move OG to the 4.

Once in happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is a trend.

I don't see how the money works for us if thats Leons move but Randle on Minny makes sense. They have Reid when they want to go big. Randle is a more flexible greater then KAT. A lot of pieces have to get shifted by both teams to make this happen and I don't see the numbers nor do I see Mitch and Randle moved for KAT. Can't Fathom DDV and Randle both being moved either.
Poses the question: Objectively, if DDV and randle is the price and Thibs says that gets us to the finals, do you do it? Not easy for this fan to promote that. Seems sacrilege but its why Leon gets the big bucks.

The Nick Richards/MIles Bridges for Randle seems easy and logical for both teams. Obviously there are many reasons to like or hate that also.

Perhaps it all comes down mid season when players can get moved and we have evaluated Simms, Huk, and others for that matter. Im sure we have offers for Kessler others but all teams have things to figure out also. Trades have to have mutual benefits.
