Knicks have been dealing with massive injuries all year, but have not made excuses - always been "Next man up." Hartenstein becomes a starter and a critical piece of what we do. Guys like Deuce McBride went from never playing to playing 48 and scoring 20ppg. Precious Achiuwa was somewhat of an afterthrought in a trade, looked lost for 10 games and then was a crucial 40 min a night defense/rebound/finishing machine for a month.

We are keeping out hopes up on OG and Jalen bouncing back here, but it seems likely we'll need to have someone "new" contribute in the next few games in some meaningful way. Doesn't feel like Alec Burks right now, but here's a fun poll for us to speculate on who might be our next surprise hero! Honestly I'm not even sure how many of these guys are actually "active" for the playoffs.

"Shake" Milton is the one guy who has a real NBA resume and has been a rotation player and playoff player. Sims more than likely is the player that gets a chance for 8-10 minutes if Precious has to start at the 4 for OG.

Assuming he is actually on the team right now, Jeffries is a darkhorse as he was on the playoff roster last year. He has the most beef of any of the wings (6'5" 220) on our bench and profiles a 3 and D type. Miami turns out Haywood Highsmiths with regularity - I think the KFS pod compared him to Highsmith last night (i was half asleep), but maybe he can guard a wing and shoot a corner 3.

Alec Burks
Jericho Sims
Shake Milton
Mamadi Diakite
Jacob Toppin
Duane Washington Jr.
DaQuan Jeffries
Charlie Brown Jr.

It would be nice to have a vet for some of those minutes. Also, I think in this series we could go a little small because the Pacers do not scare me defensively. In theory, Burks could maybe match TJ McConnell, that little ****

I NALILED IT

Props and happy for it. Now keep it up!

Gentlemen...
There is NO WAY on Earth that 1 week ago I or any of you other numbskulls could have predicted that our own Alec Burks, our virtual ELEVENTH MAN would rise to the call of NEXT FUCKING MAN UP and contribute in the way he has this series. What is this Black Magic of "Next Man Up"? Can it be bottled and sold? I am simply stupified.

Tonight 6 for 11, 5 of 8 from 3pt. Thank you, Alec, for manning up.

Why would you say that no one could have expected Burks to be a positive off the bench ? He is a seasoned vet with some real positives. Other teams always have a vet that has big games against us. It's finally time for one of our vets to be taken out of moth balls to play great. Burks was trying to do too much before. He has made it simple and not doing too much.

Very well, I'll be happy to eat crow on my own.
But I distinctly remember many posts in other threads containing "corpse of" or "done", and "Alec Burks" in the same sentence.

However, the point of my post above is just how proud I am of this team and Thibs coaching that he can keep finding players to step up on the big stage. Look how deep we are running:
Presumed Starters:
1. JB
2. DDV
3. OG - *out*
4. Randle - *out*
5. Mitch - *out*

Original Bench, some now starters
6. iHart - excelling as sub starter, probably replaced Mitch in SL
7. jHart - excelling as sub starter
8. Bogs - *out*
9. Deuce - quality minutes as parttime starter/sub
10.Precious - excelling as bench player
11.Burks - just stepped up big time

The only other NBA player left on the roster is Shake (twelfth man)

I'll admit I thought Burks was a corpse ready to be buried. I have always been a Burks fan and he was shooting 40% from 3 when he came over here and had a pretty hot run of games after a bad start in Dec/Jan. But when he got here it looked like forgot how to play. Knicks were playing a team game, and Burks was doing something else. Playing weird one on one, taking crazy shots, not making anything, missing FT. He looked useless. Than the 45 seconds he played in Game 2 literally couldn't have been worse. I was ready to write him off. But we still needed him and he still had the coaches trust and now he's playing more like guy we remember from his first stint. Good 3 pt shooter, can get his own buckets, plays hard on the defensive side and makes rotations. Good secondary ballhandler (not a PG!). Alec is a true, quiet professional that does his job.
