He hasn't requested a trade, never said he did. But he said upon arriving in Cleveland that he wanted to be and expected to be in NY. Every rumor indicates he will not be resigning in Cleveland. Why would he choose to stay there for his entire prime years if he has the option to go anywhere he wants in free agency? Especially when it wasn't the place he wanted to be in the first place?

He's a pro and will play out his contract but he's not gonna sign an extension and he will leave.

He can extend and ask for a trade.
Cavs can ignore that ask.
He can hold out. Nobody holds out anymore.
He can give a list of teams suitable or ask his agent to find a deal that makes everyone happy.

Don't think he will extend and ask for a trade because that's exactly what got him in Cleveland instead of where he wanted to go. Going to assume he learned his lesson and will use the power of free agency to his advantage like many a star before him.

NY's attempts to trade for DM were very public. He didn't say anything that didn't actually happen. We all expected he was going to be in NY. Now he's in Cleveland. Brunson and Randle have opt outs. As Knicks homers I can see where we expect DM will force his way here and Randle and Brunson will opt out and stay....and OG will opt out and stay...and iHart will stay...and everybody stays...and every player we like will force their way here. But there is absolutely zero, nada, squazzole in factual evidence backing any homerism up.

Or you walking it back to "by not extending he implies a trade request" as I depicted?

I think he will decline an extension and they will be forced to trade him. If they don't trade him he will enter FA.

Nobody in Cleveland is planning for life w/o DM. You reconstruct the team around your best player, not panic trade him. That's what gets GM's fired. They have a good FO. They will make moves to put the right players around DM. They should trade Garland, Mobley and Lavern for pieces that are a better fit if they want to take the next step. I'm pretty sure I already said this earlier in the thread

I would strongly disagree and suggest the teams that have had the humility and foresight to know their star is gonna leave, and in turn get a massive haul for them, are the teams that have proven to be savvy and those that hold on out of denialism are the ones the get railroaded.

You make the team better, convince DM to stay. That's not denial. That is your first priority.
