Nobody is wrong here. DM is the man and they will max him. Not the All NBA max as he did not qualify but he gonna get a big fat extension as they can give and maybe a no trade clause cause he has leverage.
What gets GM's fired?
I'll be redundant. Its not telling your owner a player like DM is available. When its discussed, the pro's and cons are discussed. That you get player and if it don't work out what is the value if you move on? GM's don't spend that kind of money without ownership involved. What gets you fired is being stupid.
Clev in year two of the DM era has not gone smoothly. Did they tank? Maybe. With owers blessing? Perhaps. Here they are in the second round. This is a successful season some measure. Are they making money? Losing money, and is the future reasonable? Is Future Star Mobley regressed for this season or for the rest of his career?
Owners are in on this stuff. If a GM sticks his neck out and does some dumb **** selling a bad idea to owner then he will be toast.
It would be entirely wrong if Altman did not have a contingent plan if DM says he wants out.
My guess is he extends with a gentleman agreement after three years they not in ECF's they part ways via trade with a list of teams acceptable.
Maybe its a no trade clause?
I agree DM is and will be a pro about it. He knows a trade will deplete the team he goes to and it takes a year or two for it to come together.
Look at Minny? The Rudy thing did not work out. Injuries to KAT happened. You do a starphuck with a 2-3 year window. Altman knows this. Gilbert knows this.
Cav's might be a player away. Tell me whats up with Mobley and perhaps that works out? Maybe he gets surgery after season on something and emerges next year?
