So if it’s Grimes, Fournier and a couple of the protected picks do you do it ? He’s an upcoming free agent so his preferred landing spots matter to some degree. Do we live with losing the shooting and defense in the starting lineup by replacing grimes with DeRozan? The ceiling of that team with Barrett sliding to the SG is a little higher after that move right ?

This year Grimes is shooting 35.8 from 3pt and Derozan is 36.4. Grimes is 36.4 from the field this year and Derozan is 45.0

Grimes is averaging 6.3 PPG and Derozan 21.3. We aren't giving up much as far as shooting if Grimes is in the deal

No doubt about it. The only thing being grimes is a much bigger volume 3pt shooter.

DeRozan is definitely a gamer and would love to have him for the playoffs. However....

DeRozan is a mid range scorer. Already have RJ , KB and Randle clogging that.
DeRozan is a UFA in 2024. So why give up assets now?
DeRozan is 34. Does not fit long term fit.
DeRozan has been rumored to have hip issues for some time.

Knicks must be careful not to repeat their past errors where they look at the shinny objects not realizing it is too old, falling apart and it will only last a short amount of time.

Aide note, believe DeRozan would want an extension agreed to before the trade. Which would add to the asking price. Hopefully he is available after the season in FA.

That train has sailed. Derozan is a final piece you add, or part of a domino of trade scenarios. He's a baller, but might be a little early for these types of moves.

Just so I am clear - I happily trade Grimes/Fournier picks for one year of Derozan - I am not giving him an extension before the trade and I probably wouldn't after unless he brings a championship, in which case, no will care!

DeRozan can play 2,3,4 making us more versatile. Wouldn't cost us a core player and Milwaukee first round pick in 2025 maybe and maybe one other first. I'd do it and extend him for 3 years. With him on the team you could still make a trade or two including him as well, if need be. Just depends on the cost would be

I wouldn’t even want him under those circumstances. Derozan can’t shoot. Grimes can. And trading RJ for Derozan is beyond absurd

I don't want to subtract any of our solid defenders (we don't have a ton) and particularly Grimes who may be our best despite the frustrating offense to date in order to bring in an aging player.

I threw out the idea of RJ/Fournier (neither who I deem solid defenders) but proposed bringing back DeRozan/P Williams (the latter who is 22, a big wing and solid defender who can make a 3). At least in that scenario though we are losing an RJ we'd be getting back a young, big, versatile wing.

Ultimately I don't like my deal either but let's not throw Grimes away for 35 year old non-defending, non 3-point shooting - spotty playoff performer in DeRozan --- it's just not a fit. I do however think DeRozan in place of RJ is an upgrade very short term (offensively - not on defense).

Not really - you think Randle gets upset when RJ/Brunson are taking ball from him - just wait for his body language while waiting for Brunson/DeRozan/RJ to get done and who is defending in that group? Our current 5 is solid defensively because both Grimes/Mitch doing a lot of dirty work - take Grimes out for DeRozan and things are going to go downhill quick IMO.

On the Heat? What do they lose for him? Herro value is varied as he is always hurt seemingly but can light it up. Don’t see him with Lavine.

Bulls own their own pick this year and have Blazers 1st protected top 14. Lets assume that don’t happen.

Derozens price to me would have to be based on what our long term plan for him would be. Just this season? Then I burn Evan and a 2nd and thats its. He won’t put us over the top.

Is Williams part of their future? If not, why?

Bottom line is Bulls are everythung we feared the knicks would do. They starphuch and over pay.
Ball was damaged goods which really hampers a team. Billy Donovan is a good coach who got stuck with a difficult situation.
I admire the bulls ownership for being patient and firing the GM or coach won’t fix things. They need to figure out their **** and move forward. IM sure its a real blast being on “UltimateBulls.com”.

Lookng back in hindsight its a **** show, but in the moment they were reasonable decisions that executed badly.
It happened to us in the past and it set us back.

My take is that I agree with some of you knicks are being very cautious. We have great fan base but one that is still tender and craves success. To swing for the fences and make a serious run is one thing. To do so and fail to advance would not be easily digested. I mean look how we beat on Randle who played hurt and we still advanced making a good effort vs. Miami. Yet he starts slow and we ready to freak the **** out. My point is knicks don’t have much room to drop backwards and perhaps the thought of being a 50 win team for a few years is not “good enough” but if they can tread water there and eitehr surge, or set up for a reboot but with assets. New CBA allows for quicker reboots but shorter windows to win.

We currently have no star power to build with to get elite. And those guys don’t grow on trees.
