If we somehow had money to spend - I'd go for Oubre on a short-term deal as he could play either forward position in limited minutes.

There is S&T and Fournier’s expiring but you really think 4 yrs of soubrette is a difference maker. He could be Hardaway 2.0 Or even worse, Fournier 2.0

Oubre for 2 years could help as we need length - we have RJ, Hart, Grimes, DDV that are all 6'4 - 6'6. Then we have Randle at 6'8 - would be great to have something in between for guarding the DeRozans, J.Butlers, etc...

Portland waived Watford. Wasn't Watford in the summer league finals when they beat the Knicks summer league team a few seasons ago ? He outplayed Obi right ? Bring him in.

I think Thibs can split the mins of obi had last year between RJ and hart and i think it can work. Thats only around 15mins.i wont be surprised if Randle will log in his highest minutes played in a season next year. I think the FO still needs to sign a traditional Back-up 4, if the knicks get hit with the injury bug and Randle might need to sit out an extended period of time.48 minutes of RJ or hart at the 4 will be very challenging to pull off!

The easy answer to the back up 4 problem is to sign Taj for the veteran's minimum. He will only play if Randle goes down

oubre is known for a lot of things and defense is not one of them. Josh Hart and Rj can handle Derozens and jimmy butler just fine.
Curious to see what the roster looks like Nov when camp opens.

I think it's clear what we should do. We need to bring our boy back home and into the fold.

Am I the only one who feels like Roby is the perfect backup for Randle?

A second round pick, hungry for any amount of mins he gets. And playing behind Randle, those mins will be limited. Which is why a young second round / journey man would be ideal.

This also gives Thibs some options to go big or small. And the way thibs runs his rotations, he needs some flexibility. There’s no political pressure to find mins for a top 10 pick with roby. Thigs can play him for a week and sit him the next week, without any backlash from the ny media or fans.

RJ is de facto backup PF especially if we run a smaller 4 Guard alignment. We all love Taj and he did show an ability to catch and shoot a little a couple years back but he’s still very limited on offense. He has no ability to create his own shot and no real moves around the basket. He’s ok for a backup C but not a PF when our Centers can’t shoot

Roby might be the best option honestly. Although we don’t need a PF for the regular rotation but i would be fine with Roby and signing Gibson for his final go-around.

Leon is very patient. From a economy pov, you may be right. But I'd bring over a pf like Grant Williams or get a youngster like Santi Aldama. Get someone who would be a valuable trade piece

Lets see how Roby plays during the SL. I dont think the traditional backup PF will see any floor time this season, thats why i think the FO is not looking for a player to soak some minutes rather an insurance if Randle goes down. Financial it wont make sense to bring in Grant williams if Thibs more on less is set with his rotation. If Roby is serviceable to play a few minutes in the big leagues, he has shown before that he can. So i wont expect any more moves during the summer unless a star player they love becomes available. jacob and Roby can play the back up 4 role
