New rules are tricky but Boston can navigate.
bottom line is if you resign Brown, is it a tradable contract?
I don't think many do appreciate what we have in Randle FOR THE CONTRACT HE IS ON!!!!
Warts and all.
So I took a long look at Randles salary compared to others since this has been your argument from day one. And I still don’t think money should be the reason to keep a player. It should be chemistry. Granted I’m not as down on Randle as most, but I see both sides.
Looking at the salaries, it’s hard to find a better player making less than him. Which means it’s not going to be easy to replace his production, IF we trade him. He may be on the team next year and all of this is a mute point.
Knowing all of that, I still think it’s flawed to say, let’s keep a player who doesn’t perform in the 4th and doesn’t show up in the playoffs because he’s on a good contract. Is Leon’s goal to collect and sign only good contracts OR is the goal to win a chip? Because that’s all I care about.
Regardless of how good Randles contract is, the one thing a good contract helps is trade value. You don’t let his contract stop you from improving the team because he’s being paid below market value. And if moving him improves the team you do it. Some players that might fit better are making a little more. Some are well into the 30 mil range. Well Randle will make 29k during the last year of his contract. So he’s not far off. But u do what’s best for the team.
Personally I don’t like his body language and if I’m on the coaching staff, I’m pointing this out to him all summer. It’s deflating. And it needs to be fixed along with him showing up in the playoffs and showing up even when he has bad games. He need to work on his leadership. Since JB came here seems like he just wants to play and give JB the wheel to drive this team. It’s all good. And I believe in the future of this team.
We got to the Conf Semi's with all that bad body language. I'm not defending it 100% but the teams that have prevailed all have done so with a core that got to experience pain to get there. Randle has played in 3 series. He had some good moments and perhaps his ankle was in part of his salty self.
We beat Cavs. Thats a milestone! Its not to be discounted and discarded as object failure.
Not all teams can return from loss. ATL has yet to advance. SAC had a great season but was very playoff green. Minny knocked on the door after a tough season were KAT Played less than 30 games.
There is no secret to some of this. Miami is battle tested and in retrospect we are seeing how we fell short. I been harping that we did not lose, but beaten.
Boston should be further along but they "let go of the rope" and looked cooked.
They have the shooting chops to still make Miami sweat some.
Denver has a core that kept returning for the last few years. Murray was out a lot with ACL.
Randle need not be a leader, Brunson, JOsh Hart and perhaps in time RJ has the personality for it.
If there needs to be a player change I have to submit we need more offense from the five to make life easier for all. Seems we work too damn hard.
Granted, the final look losing 4 of 6 never feels good. I think those last games are more influential on us as fans and we respond to it. Fact is Cavs series was a feel good story as was the majority of the season.
Won't object to some consolidation but change for the sake of it is not in my wheelhouse. The "Randle must go" thing is a bit naive when there is nothing tangible on the table. The "we can do better than RJ but I can't think of any" is also abstract. I still have hope RJ can be better than OG in less than Two years. OG is a very good player. Just not for a premium they might want.
Im on record for Ayton, using Mitch, IQ and EF, and pick. That's generous. Ayton numbers are not bad, but he needs polish and an ass kicking by Thibs. Thats two starters, a solid back up for Booker. IQ is good one year understudy for CP3 and if extended comes on when CP3 is gone. Since he misses a lot of games, its solid.
I like IQ, and perfectly fine with him but I know JB is our guy. Grimes is our 2. I like Josh at the 2 or 3 and gives us flex.
Randle needs to not be a dick. I concur!!!!!
If your goal is make it to the conf semi fine. News flash, don't be surprised if we improve and still can't make it back to conf semi. Thats because this year the playoff path was setup perfect for us. Maybe if we had good body language Randle, we make it further.
Not sure where I said "Lets trade Randle just to trade him". I've heard this several times and it still doesn't make since. This is not something Leon Rose does. And I never heard a Knick fan say, "Lets make a trade just to make a trade". You trade players to improve the team, it's not rocket science.
This Randle and RJ experience needs to stop. We've seen this without JB and we've seen it with JB. Randles the better player, RJ is 22 (lmao) and more level headed than Randle with emotional maturity. I don't think they compliment each other. One has a good game and the other has a bad game, then they switch.
Next year's playoff run may not be this easy.
So you kind of said we need to trade RJ but specifically for a player that would be a better fit for Randle.
"if you goal is".......Goal was make play in, make playoffs.....we exceeded it. True,, we might go backwards. Trust me its not because Nalod does not want more! It not that Nalod is content, fat and Happy. But it was a great season warts and all.
I agree RJ does play better without Randle. RJ playmaking got tight after a TO spell, and eventually his shot returned. Seems to happaen to young knicks. IQ and grimes also gone thru this.
RJ should be further along, but compared to whom? No two players are the same. He is was never a "Mamba" to me so im not highly freaked by his (10 steps forward, two back) issues. He is 4 years in, but still...........Between 21 and 23 years old.
We do this every week and nobody really changes each others mind. RJ breaks out we all happy. If not, the RJ dissenters get to rage on and I look silly.
For some this is like the worst thing....BEING WRONG!! OMG!!!!!
Not gonna be the first time or the last. Its really my HOPE its about his improvement than his past.
But There we were , 47 wins and a first round win! I'll freaking savor that until next season. It was a fun time being a knick fan season.
