lets take RJ out of the equation and perhaps dive into Grant and why he is a better fit.
My questions about him are he has been in the league 8 years. His numbers warranting his big contract are from two seasons in Detroit and in Portland. 54, 47, then 63 games each and those teams records were like really bad.
His avg is very close to RJ but with better efficiency.
Can we speak of his defense?
His interior game?
What doe the knicks need and want from the three with this roster?
What are his contract demands, and if a trade, what premium are we paying over RJ?
Grant comes on at age 26. I get we don’t want to wait 4 more years for RJ to hit his peak, but as NYmentality has alluded to is the kid is not god awful either. This is not “Frank” or “Knox” disfunction. We talking about a few shots per game and say one turnover. Knicks are driving an intense pace and been increasing it. Would other players coming in face similar inefficiency?
Lets say Grant is not available or knicks decide he is not a clear fit, is OG the man and at what price is it silly?
Is this the consolidated trade we need to make? OG has one more year left on his deal,, comes with a good defensive reputation and better eFG% than our incumbant. He will be 26 this summer. If he steps up his possessions does his numbers fall a bit? If thats a major selling point and we do that are we really upgrading? One can massage the numbers a lot of ways. Is it worth a try? Depends on the price.
As for Trading IQ to portland it really depends on the pick and who is projected there. Thing is if they are keeping Lillard and want to build around him quickly, is Quickly that player the best for them? I’d think Randle goes, and we take Miller and say we start Obi and let Miller earn his way in.
That might put us back a bit but……..Internal growth elsewhere matters. More on RJ for sure.
The idea is as talented as Randle ( and it will take more to snag that pick than just him), is he the guy to lead us the next 2-3 years?
IQ real value? Your talking about a kid who did shine 2/3rds of a season. Its exciting to see him blossom as he has but “Untouchable” might be strong or premature. I get we are coming to a crossroad with him and he has done well at the right time for his career. Its nice we don’t have to drool over Colin Sexton anymore!! LOL
