Right now the Knicks are at a saturation point. They have too many players. Literally too many who probably deserve more playing time to help them out. McBride and Jericho and Fournier are sitting right there just waiting for someone to be in a sit-game situation. And guys like Grimes is going to need even more minutes next year, not to mention someone like Obi right now.

Outside of the window of possibility getting a specific, high talent pick in the 11+ range, the Knicks need to do a pretty good sized trade just for it to be worthwhile selecting someone in that range outside of a long term dev kid, otherwise the Knicks would be wasting a year of a rookie contract.

It'd predict a consolidation trade for the Knicks at draft time and/or during July FA period.

I care. You need grade A talent to win, and typically get that talent by drafting well. Look at Mitch, rj, iq, grimes; to a lesser extent McBride, obi and sims- all draft picks. Extremely valuable for team building. Smart signings like randle, Brunson, iHart, drose (his influence is felt strongly here too) and one trade for hart, help build too.

Look at all the top teams, really mainly built through the draft and supplement with trades, signings

It is hard. And yet our two best players, Randle and Brunson are just that on very good contracts.
You want "The big one". Yeah, that's not easy given its not Los Angeles or Miami.
Knicks are a respectable franchise with a stable culture at the moment. Brunson came here and flurished. yes, its his dad and Thibs with Uncle Leon which is family for him.
Randle has thrived here. We are developing yoot, and Donovan Mitchell wanted in.
Winning is not easy.

I think that problem solves itself in the offseason. We will opt of Rose’s contract. Hart is FA. Perry will probably find a way to salary dump Fournier next summer which will be easier with just one year left on his deal

We’ve been doing well with mid to late round picks and even second round picks in recent years. It would be nice if the Mavs pick ends up vesting this year but I doubt it

The Knicks have to try and extend Quickley, and they likely want to resign Hart. I agree they will opt out of Ros, and Fournier will probably be traded at some point between now and next year’s trade deadline. But Rose and Fournier are already not in the rotation. The problem is that we have a solid starting five, so any trade would have to be for a player that is better than the current starter. The obvious guy is Barrett, who still is proving to be too inconsistent and inefficient to remain our longterm starting SF. If the team trades Barrett for picks and then started Hart at SF, that solves ALOT of issues, but I doubt the Knicks go in that direction. They probably will want to trade Barrett for someone who they believe fits better in that spot. The names I see are O.G. from Toronto, Grant, Bridges, and Ingram as guys that possibly are available for the package. Miles Bridges might be available once the league finishes its investigation, and if the Clippers implode, they might decide it is time to move on from one of George or Leonard. Or, we can wait for Luka to demand a trade. It is not an easy solution as to where this team goes from here but Martin is right, we are at a saturation point and management has to figure out the next big move that takes us over the hump.

I would trade Barrett as part of a package to get PG13 or Kawahi.
