Really happy with Mitch's emergence this season. But we still need a big with a post up game, who can get buckets.

I see why Hart is on a new team every season. Gets off to a really good start, gets fans excited, then starts trailing off as the season progresses. Looks like your average reserve big.

Last night it was like 4 on 5 on offense (maybe 3 on 5, and sometimes 2 on 5). Mitch needs to do something on offense besides rebound.

Has Mitch improved? Every time he has a stretch where he plays a bunch of games in a row, we definitely value Mitch's impact. But I think the improvement is just that he's been able to stay on the court for longer. I'm not sure his game is any better. He has always been a great rebounder and finisher, who at best, fouls less. But as a result of fouling less, in some respects his shotblocking is worse.

Im not trying to say he doesn't make an impact. He makes a huge impact. And when he's able to stay on the floor we are a better team. But I dunno that he has improved his game much.

He is a much better screener, almost really good.

He is the best boxout guy in the league. Same with rebounding, and it's much better than you are implying.

Fouling way down.

His defensive recognition is much better. His close outs much better.

He sustains his defense instead of his attention fading in and out.

FT shooting not where it needs to be but it's one step closer (he has a routine).

He (just about) knows his offensive sets and there are much more than over the past years.

He still sucks on offense and what to do outside of picks and some movement.

He is actually near getting into good NBA shape. Has found decent weight/strength balance.

He is actually taking his job seriously, probably first time in his career.

There is a lot to like about what Mitch is doing.

Can Mitch eventually develop an outside jumper? Not impossible. Oak did exactly that his last couple years here. Imagine Mitch camping wide open on the perimeter getting wide open looks

Good point about Oak. Got so bad that fans at MSG would groan as soon as Oak let one go. Guess he got tired of it, and developed a nice corner jumper. Not a lot of jump in it lol.

gonna take him a year or 2 on the offensive end of things, but we're going to see this a lot more often. Dude is going to break some teams

I have lots of respect for Robert Williams III as the key to Boston's defense. If he was healthy, maybe the Celtics win the championship last season. That being said, Mitchell Robinson seemed to dominate him this matchup. Mitchell might be rounding out as a top 5center in the league behind Jokic Embiid Lopez and Adams. theringer.con just dropped a fapathon article on Nick Claxton. I'm looking forward to that matchup.

1st pick in that draft was DeAndre Ayton who plays same position.

Atyton has a lot more to offer on offense, but Robinson is the better player defensively.
We really had a great draft in 2018 picking him up in the 2nd round.
We got soo lucky Mitchell had the issues he did in his College year and then did not work out for teams leading him to drop to 2nd round.

great analysis in this thread. Mitchell does the intagibles to create opportuinities for others that does not show up in the stat sheet.
His salary is very reasonable for his production and the way it is structured to reduce each year it is probably one of the best value contracts when comparing talent to cost in the NBA.

Agree

I wish we had Chris Paul for one season so MitchRob could average average 20 pts in the paint, 10+ rebounds, and 2+ blocks per game.
The two centers MitchRob and Jarrett Allen I always seen their talent as equal ..
Jarrett playing on the Nets averaging 5 FGA per game to average 10 pts, while Durant & Kyrie take total advantage of having the green-light by performing as a shoot-first one on one offense.
Jarrett on the Cavs, where PG Garland gives Jarrett 10 FGA per game to average 15 pts per game putting 100% effort on defense.
Well, MitchRob have/had the same type of problems Jarrett Allen had on the Brooklyn Nets for 5 seasons.

Man, the transformation Mitch has made over the last 3 years has been amazing to me.

Went from skinny, string bean bouncer who had zero clue what to do on defense. Couldn't set a pick to save his life. He was just pure clay with zero fundamentals. Hard to imagine his frame bulking out the way it did without losing the twitch-fast reactions times that he has.

And yet here we are.

I think he has a bunch of potential left on the O end of things but at a simple, rudimentary level, and that bump will still shock us all. It'll prob take about another 3 seasons but he has shown to be a learner IMO.

Good call with Allen. He's a much more accurate free throw shooter so he can stay on the court at the end of games.Contract wise I'd rather pay Mitchell 60 million for four seasons then Allen for 3.

Good to see Mitchell take up residence inside Tatums head:

But I thought Robinson altered another one of Tatum's shots. Tatum was not the same after and I think partly lead to him getting ejected.

totally agree. He's gonna have health problems. He flails. He's not graceful. I think he's a 60 game a year but to balance that he's got a very friendly deal. I do see him getting better with setting picks and rolling to the basket.

He's also funny as hell and a ton of fun to watch play. I def HART Mitch

him coming back has been illuminating

I had mistakenly thought our 'Big 3' was Randle, Brunson, Barrett... it really is Randle, Brunson, Robinson. I think of RJ as more of a wildcard these days

He had a full off season to come in ready healthy which mattered.
He has a contract and his role clearly defined. It mattered.
Physical and mental maturity.
Great pick by Knicks. Scott Perry. They wiffed on Knox but drafted a starting center, one of the best defenders in the league!
Lament on Knox but coutnerbalance the reality with Mitch. This is why YOU CREATE YOUR OWN LUCK WITH MULITIPLE PICKS THAT CREATE MULITPLE OPPORTUNITIES!
Miss on some, score on others.
Even Trier was a good opportunity. He could ball, but perhaps his head was not right for the NBA. Last played in Gleague 2021 for the Iowa Wolves in that shortend season.
