I have defended Randle, as I do all our players, for some time. However, it is clear that Randle seems done and has NO confidence. Whether it was our famous NY hospitality or his inability to adapt to this new role, he is just not looking good. Maybe he is only at his best as the primary scorer on a bad team. One thing is clear, he may not be a good fit with this starting lineup with RJ and JB.
Problem is, we have bigger issues.
NONE OF OUR YOUNG GUYS CAN SHOOT OR HAVE HIGH BBALL IQ! We can blame Randle for ALL of our problems. But we are ignoring obvious issues with the other 90% of the team. Besides Obi close to 50% 3pt shooting, everyone else is struggling yet again.
Additionally, Thibs mentioned this the other night. Maybe no one heard him but we gave up 18-19 points off offensive boards. Seemed pretty important factor in contributing to the loss. Considering Randle is our best rebounder, how will moving him improve that?
I am sure everyone realizes that Obi does not exactly stick around to help on the boards much. Reason why he is first man down on transition. Randle also has been decent defending the 4. Not sure if we can say that would be Obi's strong suit. Lastly, our offense struggled for stretches.
We asked Randle to cut down on his shooting. Share the ball. He has. Yet we are blaming Randle for lack of offense.
But as I said, I get it. Randle dribble turnovers were comical the other night. His three point shot looks like Dennis Smith Jr. part 2. (Another NY fan treatment victim). But think goal should be to get him back to his aggressive role. Without the dribbling and 3pt chucks. He needs his alpha mentality back. If he can't do it with first unit then move him to second unit where he can be the primary scorer again. If he continues to stink up the place through the trade deadline, then move him.
But lets not lose sight of our bigger issues mentioned above. Ones that may only be made worse once he leaves.
