The polar opposite of the optimism thread...........
we start out 5-20 I agree, it depends on why. Naturally blame will have to be satisfied right?
Lets go thru the usual suspects:
1. If the starting lineup is filled with vets. Blame it on Thibs not playing the kids.
2. if he is playing the kids, then Thibs obviously sucks and must be replaced by anyone who conceptually can do better.
3. Its injuries. Blame Thibs for over playing who ever is hurt.
4. Randle. Blame Thibs for not playing Obi. Obi is not the answer but Thibs must be accountable to Briggs.
5. Hype. Brunson is not Iverson.
6. Money. Brunson and RJ need to play up to the contracts.
7. The Rain. Blame it on the Rain.
Injuries? Chemistry? Strength of schedule? Whose playing well and who can be traded.
If need be, tilt to the tank and go young. At what point?
So I’m having a hard time understanding your point of view or your answer to the thread.
I see a heavy dose of blame on thibs but no blame on the FO? If we play this blame game, there’s a lot of people to blame outside of just thibs. Vets, yoots, FO, home crowd, etc……
I agree with most people who said it depends. What I do know with strong confidence. If Randle stinks and continues to bark at the refs while his man is scoring? And the team is losing, you will hear it from the home fans louder than what you hear in these threads. Huge year for Randle right now. We are running out of excuses. Randle now has a legit PG. Thibs will continue to lean on the vets like he did last year. And I’m ok with that (optimistic training camp switch). Thibs will allow the vets to lose their starting roll or mins vs taking mins away. I’m fine with that approach and I respect that………Even if I rather have deuce and grimes on the floor. I want to see cam in the starting lineup as well. But I will leave that up to NBA2k. In reality the vets will play like they did last year whether that’s good or bad, it just is.
I believe thibs would’ve made the change from vets to yoots by this time (assuming 5-15 record example). With the pressure from social media and if the yoots are out playing the vets, and we are losing. I’m confident in thibs making the change like Fournier for grimes. Or reducing Randle and increasing Obi mins.
If thibs makes all those changes and we are still 5-15………The pressure and blame will switch to the FO, and the FO will be forced to make a Randle trade for example, even if his value dropped even lower.
But on the positive side, I’m hearing Fournier and Randle all say the right things so far. That’s a step in the right direction. Cam to me is still the wild card and potential locker room cancer. He’s player 11 and I don’t see how he cracks the rotation without a trade. That’s who I will be watching in training camp. I think this team needs him but he also has to show his value in limited mins like he was doing before he got injured last year.
We’ll see. But too much blame and negative scenarios to even answer this open ended question. I’m back to optimistic mode so I’m hoping Fournier defense improves like he said it would. Randle reduces his roll like he said in general there will be adjustments. He said he’s looking forward to playing with JB. That means less spin turnovers and more efficient play, you would think.
The opposite question is what happens if we are 15-5? Do you now trade the vets since their value will be at its highest? That’s when you should make trades but most organizations starving for Ws like the Knicks would never make trades like this if we are 15-5 leading the east. But if we 5-15 and a fan says trade Randle. Someone else will say wait until he increases his value 🤣. That doesn’t work either based on what I just described.
