Personally I would have done and preferred a deal centred on RJ and 2 unprotected 1st for Mitch, but I absolutely agree with drawing the line at that. Think Rose made the right call, suck a d***, Ainge! lets see if we can pivot to SGA for mainly picks now OKC are facing another tanking season- it has the added bonus of annoying Ainge more too as it increases OKC's tank ability and hits Ainge's ego and ability to out bid them in trade ups in future drafts.

I hope yall paid attention to the wording used when talking about the contract. The only way he makes 30mil a year is with hitting his bonuses. If he hits those bonuses he would be worth 30 a year.

NBA circles are small so maybe West has ties to someone in the FO. I choose to believe everything because he was dead on with the main part of the info. According to this, Jerry West definitively says Grimes will be better than a player who, while inefficient, has put up 20 ppg in the NBA. Has defended the best wings in the league well. Has carried a team offensively. Has averaged over 23 PPG for an extended period of time in the NBA.

I'm sorry there is not enough good tape on Grimes to make that statement. Grimes got 22ppg in the summer league and **** the bed when he came up against a team geared to stop him in a championship game. No one has any idea how that translates. I currently see a good comp for Grimes as Desmond Bane.

You are getting caught up in what a Twitter poster used in HIS language that is also probably re-interpreted 3 times over (in this scenario, Jerry to Knicks, Knicks to leak point, leak point to Twitter). "Better" is a very vague word in this context, don't take it literally.

Steve Popper thinks it's AS MUCH AS $120M

A league source confirmed that the deal is being worked on, with Barrett earning the full $120 million if he achieves milestones including All-Star, All-NBA and All-Defensive Team honors.

Not for nothing, but I wonder if Leon used the Utah chatter to give RJ a deadline to sign too. Likelihood pretty high IMHO

Looks like Leon is the boss and Ainge over played his hand if he really wanted RJ. Also if he really wanted RJ it meant less picks.
There was a deadline and thats that. Leon sets his own price and stand by it. Leon negotiates, thats what he does. No “**** Ainge” in his language. He is at the table to get a deal done and he set his price. NObody said it has to get done.
If Jazz are fishing for a bigger price, well thats their issue.

Like most things Leon does the Barrett deal is fair. Far from max in money and years, with incentives to pay if the kid keeps upping his game. He earned that.

Jerry West said Grimes is really good? Super. Better than RJ? Well, thats ok too. Context matters. Was it “for the money better” or “upside better”? I suppose fans have to pick one vs the other? Not here. Maybe West just increased his value publically for reasons I don’t know why but it only helps if we trading for DM. And in what capacity is the logo under AND is this really anything to talk about? LOL

IM suprised Leon had RJ on the platter to trade him to Jazz, but thats how it works.

Leon the professional. Knicks don’t have to do this trade.
Jazz owe DM over 90 mil on his deal and it has a 15% kicker. Thats 12.5mil Jazz pay. Thats not chump change. It matters. Im guessing DM waives it if he goes to knicks. Maybe DM said he’d do that if they do this by Sept 1 or similar?

So on its own, the RJ extension is a little more than what Keldon Johnson signed with the Spurs, which sounds fair. I'd be surprised if RJ hits any of those bonuses, but it would be great if he did. I'm guessing this also sets the the range on the upcoming Tyler Herro deal.

Apparently it is worth 107mil if he does not hit his bonuses. That is not bad with how much players are getting paid now.

Big congrats to both RJ and the front office. I think this deal is pretty fair for both sides and accurately reflects the value of RJ’s upside. Maybe a little higher than I expected but still well within reason. If he takes the next steps to become a lock down defender and can improve his % at the hoop, 3pt and ft line it will be a great contract. I think it starts with the free throw line. Let’s get him above 75% this year.

I think that All Defensive Team nod is the most likely possibility. All Star maybe if he improves his passing, but he and Randle basically need to both do the same things better for both to succeed. Pass, play defense and take better shots.

Hope he does well. Feel like the Knicks can be sort of a GSW-lite with the players they have. Missing that HOF PG and any semblance of an offense, but we are taking baby steps.
