As different as Kyrie is, cant see him leaving 36 mill on the table for a mid level deal. I think he opts in and the nets make one more run at a chip and figure things out next summer.

For the most part didn't he just leave like $16M on the table this past year? And then someone on his agent's team must have told him the downwind ramifications of that? Like Brooklyn won't offer you an $186M extension?

https://www.sportscasting.com/kyrie-irving-leaving-more-than-200-million-on-the-table/

While Irving is staring down the barrel of more than $16 million vanishing into thin air, the stakes are even higher than that.

Kyrie Irving is entering the third year of the four-year, $136.5 million contract he signed in 2019 and is eligible for up to a four-year extension worth $186 million.

He would have to exercise his player option for 2022–23 ($36.5 million) to get the extension. But that is now off the table, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. Charania spoke recently on The Glue Guys podcast about the situation.

“He was willing to sacrifice, at the end of the day, $16 million in salary this upcoming year and $186 million, as far as an extension, that he will not be offered now,” Charania said.

That’s more than $200 million in lost income Irving is facing. But in comments he made on social media on Oct. 13, he’s aware of the stakes.

The bro is WHACK

Didn't that also essentially cost him his Nike contract too? (they decided not to renew which was $11mil per year).

However if he goes to the Lakers and they're successful, he gets maybe a max deal from the Lakers next summer and the sponsors come crawling back. It would be a game. Essentially a one year opt in with the Nets now, or take a $6mil all or nothing gamble with the Lakers, in which longer term he ends up with more money (though much riskier), or settle for the certain 1 year deal now and try not to implode again.

Yes, he is a whacko, but at least he puts his money where his mouth is. Gotta respect a man who sticks to his principles, as bizarre as they may be. Plus, he is a damn good baller.

Kyrie on the Knicks would be a total circus. But I wonder whether a circus might be better than mediocrity.

Looked at Kyrie's stats. Man that guy is awesome. He's a 50%fg/40%3pt/90%FT player when he plays.

But it's hard to argue that he's a bit injury prone/fragile and comes across as a bit of a headcase. Plus he burned some bridges by trolling the Knicks during free agency.

You worry whether his presence would be disruptive with the team.

No worries at all. You really want this guy on a team full of yoots? What if Randle is still here after we get Kyrie?

Now what would that clash of mental angst be like at this point.
Please, next it will be some sort of deranged three team deal with the Lakers dumping Westbrook, Kyrie and Ben Simmons coming here in a package deal for Randle and Fournier and all our 1st rounders for the next 10 years.

Please no...he's a head case that doesn't play for the coaches and goes off the rail (mentally) if they try to get him to play their game. His ego is bigger than MSG and when he's on the court, it's his game, win or lose...he calls the shots. And he would kill our cap for years to come. Stick with the youth and develop them as a team, not individual stat seekers.

Hope everyone bookmarked all the articles and ‘hilarious’ video takes we had to endure when KD and Kyrie signed with the Nets.

To be fair though, if this does fall apart, Kyrie might take all the heat, but KD’s is just as much so- especially since him getting the nEts to trade for Harden completely screwed them as they lost all their picks, losing J Allen AND ended up getting stuck with Ben Simmons- without that they could much easily have recovered from the loss of Kyrie

I thought the Next learned their lesson from the KG/ Pierce trade. People were praising the way they were progressing in the aftermath and then Tsai just goes full Dolan. If this was the Knicks, they'd be getting killed right now. Fortunately for the Nets, they were never truly relevant to begin with.

Over a 3 year time period, KD has played 90 regular season games for Nets, Kyrie 100.

3 years.

Fitting end- after spending years saying how cool the Nets were, they end up screwing him over and trading him to where they want him to go

If the Knicks move away from Randle....I wouldn't mind Irving on the Knicks. All that personal stuff aside, dude is FANTASTIC on the court and don't actually believe he would hinder any of our up and coming young players. As a matter of fact, I think they would benefit playing next to K.Irving.

The only hiccup would be Randle. I don't see them being a good match on the court together. Irving and Obi Toppin would be lights out at the garden.

Heat could offer a good deal, Suns maybe if a sign and trade with Ayton is possible?

What on earth could the Heat offer that we wouldn't top? they got no picks lol and Ayton mid. RJ, Randle, Reddish, Noel and 3-4 1sts and 3 pick swaps is better than any Heat package.

3 years.

Reasons some don’t appreciate RJ and Randle enough. The best ability is availability.

Hilarious!! Remember the state-of-the-art practice facility in Brooklyn being one of the main draws to that franchise?

Slave owner Patrick Henry said "I know not what course others may take but for me, give me liberty or give me death." We have a 10 page thread about women's freedom to control their bodies, but a guy who sacrificed 16 million because he doesn't think the government or employers have the right to mandate people getting vaccines is somehow a wacko.

I'm not sure I agree with that, I know a woman here in China who has a child with health complications that can't get vaccinated. She doesn't think she can ever go back to the UK because of the prevalence of Coviid and risk to her kids. I do think that Kyrie taking heat for his decision is pretty typical for anyone who chooses to place principles over money.
