How does this help the team?
Why would Oladipo think this is a good situation for him?

Appreciate the honesty!
I think the Knicks will be looking for an upgrade at the point. Brunson appears out of range without working out a sign and trade, costing the Knicks players. The idea here is using the MLE to take a swing at a talented player without giving up assets. I think Oladipo's injury was different, not chronic like Kemba. Adding him to the Knicks could be key to getting a top defense again. He was one of the better point of attack defenders when healthy.
Oladipo does it because of ties to Scott Perry and the opportunity to rebuild his brand in New York.
Oladipo is not a PG, he is a SG.
The last 4 years, these are the total games he has played for the regular season: 36, 19, 33, 8 (plus the playoffs).
His market is the vet min.
He is not a starter.
We have IQ/Rose at PG. With McBride in the wings.
+1
That's what struck me immediately. Why move IQ to SG behind Fournier? He looked as good if not better at the PG position at the end of the season than anyone we had.
If Oladipo is that good defensively, I'm all for sliding him in immediately behind Fournier at the 2. Fournier builds up leads with that three, and then Oladipo can come in and hold the opponent in check.
And Burks is suddenly a backup SF? In the past decade, he's played about one full season as a SF.
