Did second unit really play better than first?
IQ was horrible I'm the first half. Grimes came along later in the season. Obi came along the last month. Rose was hurt. Boston is now in the finals with Smart, Brown and Tatum. They did that with patience and developing them to be some of the better players in the league. Hortford also was a key pick up. If left up to the genius Boston fans, this team would have been broken up at the All Star break.
IMHO, the idea of rinse, repeat, knee jerk is what had us where we were prior to this FO taking over.
Laughing stocks of the NBA.
Their approach of patience is refreshing and is what is needed to build a program/franchise.
Stay the path by picking up a solid FA, drafting well and by letting guys play together longer than several months.
You are not aloud to use the words patience as a knick fan. I think knick fans including me, are allergic to patience. And to be honest, we suffered long enough and tried the traditional build through the draft route. We need competent scouts and a FO who knows how to find talent.
I disagree on your take about the second unit. I say they absolutely played better than…………Kemba/ Fournier with their lack of defense. Second unit doesn’t have a high profile wanna be Kobe as a PF. Second unit always had more chemistry because they are similar in age and played together several years during the SL and worked out together.
If you want more proof about the second unit, just look at how many games the starting 5 played together. More than any other starting 5 in the nba. Part of the reason thibs did that was to keep the 2nd unit chemistry in tack. And it worked out for their development. Remember hindsight is 20/20 so I gotta give thibs the thumbs up on how well they played towards the end of the season, regarding IQ and Obi. They bring an unselfish style of team ball which is refreshing after watching the starting 5 play iso ball.
Where I agree with you is patience. I agree that we continue to repeat the same things every year. New coach new star player new free agents. Instead of building on top of what you have. It’s like a plant in your yard. Every year you trim the weeds and add fertilizer so it can grow bigger and better next year. But it’s been since 1973 when I was in diapers when the knick won. Was in HS when the Knicks was a legit playoff team. And that wasn’t because of patience. We Star phucked our way to being relevant. Unfortunately there was no youth movement or draft picks. So we was stuck in that cycle.
New FO seems solid. Young talent is better. We made improvements vs starting over every year. We just need the right tweaks to make this roster work. We are close even though our record doesn’t say it. But I believe in the growth of RJ and the other young players.
