Do not see this as relavent to signing his son.
Why would Brunson want to leave a playoff team with Luka for the Knicks?
Why would he want to leave an environment/system he is successful and familiar with?
Dallas can pay him the most.
Why would Knicks want to give up assets for him? Seems like they want a TRUE difference maker.

1. I see the priorities as signing or replacing Mitch.
2. Draft well.
3. Pickup back up PG or Center in FA.

Do not see Randle being traded, sign and trade for Brunson.

Reminds me of when we hired Royal Ivey cause he was KD's friend.

Can players be signed-and-traded for one another? Because if so, there might be a two-way S&T of Mitch for Brunson. Dallas needs a legitimate shot-blocking center in the worst way, and Brunson, while hugely important to their playoff run, can be replaced by Dinwiddie. And whatever minutes at PG are left over by Luka and Dinwiddie can be spelled in a pinch by Frankie.

Plus they are getting THJr back next season to pick up the scoring slack after Brunson's departure.

Maybe if we return their pick to them which has value for trading future assets beyond what the pick might be. I'd say the desire for Brunson is much higher than any desire for Mitch.

I think Berman or someone wrote about this within last month. And the answer was no because of weirdness in how the salaries of both players counted against cap cause they are 2nd round picks.

Thanks, I have now read the article, and it seems that the issue is not so much trading them for one another, but the difficulty in doing a sign-and-trade for a base compensation player, i.e., a player getting a major raise, because for his new team the salary cap hit will equal his new salary, while for the old one it would be his old salary or 50% of his new salary, whichever is greater. In case of Mitch, who earns $1.8m now, if he gets a new contract at $15m, the team he gets traded to must send out at least $11.75m back, but for the Knicks cannot take back more than $9.38m, so there is a $2.4m mismatch. Trading Mitch for Brunson exacerbates the mismatch, because Brunson creates the same mirror problem, extending the mismatch to over $5m.
So the only way to solve this is to include more players in the deal from both sides, so that the mismatch is absorbed by the 25% leeway in matching trade salaries.
But I have not considered Dallas' over the cap situation, which will also complicate things.

Thx for pushing that along. I too have read it can't be done and you did a good job with brevity! 4 teams have cap space? I think more teams will get things done'
Lets freak out after the Free agent season comes and goes.
