That shot right now is meaningless.. Right now Knicks made the biggest mistake not giving Riley what he wanted with our NY Knicks. Those 3 championships shoudlve been ours. Knicks have not won anything almost 50 yrs and counting. Since Riley in Miami, They've been to the NBA finals 5x and looking for #6.. Some of their players were undrafted and playing well.

That was one SWEET! day in Knicks history Martin, the sole time we stuck it back to Pat Riley Miami franchise.

Call it Knicks / Jeff Van Gundy's LAST NY Hurrah!

Riley wanted a percentage of Knick ownership which meant a percentage of cablevision. As stupid is Dolan is/was you can’t blame him for that it would be like Mark Cuban giving Jason Kidd a percentage of not only the Mavericks but his other companies

The biggest mistake Dolan made after letting Riley go was firing Ernie Grunfeld in 1999. Grunfeld had played 4-D chess and rebuilt the roster but that season the Knicks struggled in the regular season tho they made the playoffs and even got to the Finals but he fell on the sword. Next two GMs were tweedle dee and tweedle dumb

DJ, get Chris Herrings book “Blood in the Garden”. Seriously, it puts some things i perspective.
I won’t argue riley’s post knick career. This is a new book. It covers the moment. MSG was going thru a buy out and Jim Dolan was not quite in the picture as we might remember. No coach had ever had equity and that Arinson as smart to tap him looks pretty good in hindsight. The era of Coach/President came and went and not many were successful.
Tim Connelly jsut got an equity stake but the details are not defined on that end.

Read the book. You’ll learn alot about the players and behind the scenes of what happend. im reading the part about the suspensions vs. Miami and the JVG era. The Oak Trade, etc. Great stuff!!!

Required reading for all of us really.

It don’t change the history but we can better understand it.

And just a couple years later the jets lost Bill Belichick

Tho Pat Riley is a way better coach and executive in his sport. Belichick had Tom Brady do everything for him for 20 years

Dumb take. True, great players make great coaches but did Belicheck not put him in and groomed him? Not like Brady was brady and he rode that coat tail? What great coach did not have great players? Duh.

Pat Riley won championships with different teams, different players and took a 39 win knick team and almost beat Jordan in his prime the following season

When was the last time Belichick won a playoff game without Tom Brady? I’ll let you google

when did any coach not win a chip with great players? I know your a jets fan and it makes you feel good about finding anything to make you feel better.

Tom Brady does not play all the positions himself. Neitehr did Jordan, or Bill Russell. They had talent and were coached well.

Riley walked onto a stacked Laker team. He did well. He did very well with knicks. And yes, also with Heat. Had some stinkers there too. Its because he was there so long!

I have a copy of Chris Herrings book “blood in the garden”. Happy to get it too you if you’d read it.
Some good info on the Riley Era. Not fodder to win or lose an arguemnt, but sets the table at the moment.
PM Martin and I’ll get it to him and throw in some money too. Migth be cheaper to just send money. Maybe we can do. Crowd funding so you can get the book and contribute to a convo instead of diluting it.
