Love what I am seeing from McBride in Summer League, but I guess what Quick did against the pros last season doesn't count? Either way, I don't think Deuce and Quick should be competing for the same minutes.

If we assume Kenna/Rose split the PG minutes that leaves us with the SG spot for guys like RJ, Quick, Grimes —- with Duece likely 3rd string PG.

If RJ is starter the battle for back-up SG comes down to IQ & Grimes and have to say IQ is going to have his hands full fending Grimes off.

Grimes primary issue IMO is his confidence — if he has it he is a legit SG prospect if it falters under bright lights of NYC he could run into trouble but kid has positional size, high b-ball IQ, shooting stroke and is both a solid defender plus above avg rebounder (all this Thibs will love).

That would leave 36mins for IQ & Burks, Bacon, Grimes, Knox to try and compete over. And honestly Thibs probably gives them 34-36mins each leaving 24-26mins on the table. Expanded mins will depend on injuries and if they create some sort of rest plan.

In your defense, though, it looks like we could have ended up with Johnson, Grimes, McBride, and Sims (I will assume the Knicks would've taken McBride, and not Rokas, at 32), if they had wanted to go that way, and even if Johnson disappointed, we would've had a fine draft.

We picked well based on what we saw in SL, so I have to assume that the Knicks brain trust looked at Johnson and had a good reason not to take him, just as they compared McBride and Cooper, and decided to take Deuce.

Even though I'm ecstatic about how our draft picks played...it is still only SL. The same is true for Johnson.

Looks like we picked high character players who were also good BB players...guys the front office believes will prosper on the big stage and not get beaten down. Time will tell if they were right, but again, the same is true for Johnson.

I’ve got Fournier/Burkes as the SFs given Knicks seem to consider RJ a 2 (not me).

So I view Grimes as a 2 (SG) competing with IQ to back up RJ and Deuce as a 1 (PG) backing up Rose/Kemba.

Think Bacon is 3rd string SF at best but in reality we now have legit 5 guys RJ/Grimes/Fournier/Burkes/Bacon who fit wing description. IQ I don’t consider a wing even if he plays some SG.

To succeed in NYC as a rookie millionaire, you have to have a level of maturity. Otherwise NYC lifestyle will swallow you up and spit you out. Not sure if that's why we passed on Johnson, but who am I to question this FO who has exceeded my expectations from day 1.

Doesn’t Mitchel Robinson have a similar story? If Johnson was a Knick right now you’d all be man crushing on his potential instead of bringing up high school drama

A lot of teams passed on a guy with Pick 6-10 talent...Why do you think that happened?

The kid is also 19...turns 20 in December, so there isn't a lot to look at in terms of his history, but we know he was at 3 schools his last 3 years of HS...didn't even go to the last one, and then curtailed his season at Duke by opting out of one of the most prestigious BB schools in the nation & not playing a full season.

So what track record besides his "high school drama" and Duke Opt Out do you look at to evaluate his "character?" Perhaps he couldn't deal with academics in any setting...perhaps it's something else. I will assume teams did their due diligence on him. Perhaps some teams didn't like his answers, but Atlanta took a chance on a talented guy who fell into their lap and assume their coach & team chemistry would nurture him. Good for them.

The Jets picked Jachai Polite in round 3 in 2019. He was a Florida linebacker who had been predicted to be a first round talent before combines and interviews. They cut him in pre-season, and he went on to be cut by about 3 other teams. He had come to the combines out of shape, & he was supposedly terrible in many of his team interviews. I remember being pretty happy when we got him, thinking we might turn him around and get lucky. We weren't. Character can matter, even when the player is exceptionally talented.

Hope Johnson does well at Atlanta, except when he plays he Knicks, but he isn't our guy or our developmental problem right now.

Have to trust the Knicks FO on this one.

Well, not sure if you saw the last game. I don't know too many players at 6'1 (listed at 6'2 but I'm sure thats inflated) who can do a 1 step vertical dunk from under the rim. Sometimes having long arms can help make up for a lack of athleticism, first step or hops.

I noticed the same thing you saw, as far as his first step, but there's just too many positives....That's a weakness you can easily turn into a strength, if you work at it. Plus he appears to be a gym rat ready to work on any weakness he may have, similar to what I saw in RJ when we drafted him. Having a quick first step move is extremely important for short guards. I'm sure he will figure that out. That's something you can develop as your legs matures and repetition in the gym.

All the other things he brings to the table just comes natural for him, like toughness, defensive intensity and that sweet mid range jumper. Super excited to have him on this team. And I hope he has a long term knick career. Grimes is starting to catchup to Deuce, as far as young knick players I will enjoy watching. They both have this edge about them. If Sims figures a few things out, look out man. His untapped potential is through the roof. If you think his hops is high now, wait until after playing against Mitch and Noel, while taking a years worth of NBA supplements.

The way I see Thibs playing it is when RJ or Fournier comes out. Burks will be the sub for either. Burks will lineup more so at the SG spot while RJ or Fournier will guard the 3. If Thibs decides to then take the other half of RJ or Fournier out and slide in IQ. Then is when Burks will need to slide over to the 3. They didn't give Burks $10mil per to be regulated to only backup SF. He is also a seasoned vet that Thibs will be most comfortable relying from the bench wing guys.

I also believe IQ will be the 3rd string PG over Mcbride. As Burks, Fournier, Randle have enough ball handling and playmaking ability to cover for IQs lack of PG skills for those situations. This is how IQ will be able to expand his mins throughout the season.

I will be very shocked if Mcbride or Grimes play except for injuries, garbage time, or very very rare situations.
