Ummmm, not sure to how to tell your sources this, but Lillard makes $43.8m this season.

So the OTHER reason this isn't happening right now is unless they reneg on some multiple combo of Fournier, Walker, Rose, Burks and Noel (none of whom they can trade until December) Knicks don't have nearly enough cap space to absorb Lillard's salary. They'd have to send Portland $35.02m MINIMUM to make a deal.

Barrett, Knox, Toppin, Vildoza, Quickley and Robinson together only equal $26.8m.

So unless Randle is being discussed too, there is NO legal way to make a deal right now or anytime soon, with or without RJ.

I'd be very surprised if "the only reason it hasn't already happened" is because a.) they're going to ditch the deals with some of the new free agents; or b.) they're discussing a December deal.

Seems more likely you're just getting bad info from someone who doesn't understand the salary cap.

At no point did I say it will be in the coming Days, I said its a matter of time.

Your right there will some of our vets will be included

I did even know this about Kemba's deal

The second season has been reported to be a team option, so the loss on Kemba’s end may just be a little more painful if the second year of the contract is not realized.

Trading Dame will not only net them a bunch of draft picks, but they will have a quite a few flexible contracts

This ship has sailed. Stephen A. Smith is one of the most annoying people I know. He should change his name, so as not to tarnish the real Steve Smith, who not only knows a lot more about basketball, but is also able to present himself in a knowledgeable, dignified and mature manner.

Your post says the only reason it hasn't happened already (past tense) is because the Knicks aren't WILLING to include Quickley and Barrett, meaning you're claiming there is some sort of proposal by Portland in which they're willing to trade Lillard right now for Quickley, Barrett, Randle and other parts, and I highly doubt that's the case.

So there is no version of a deal that could have "happened already"if the Knicks were willing to meet Portland's ask.

As to the premise Portand and the Knicks are close to a deal that would happen in December, again, no.

Teams just don't do that, and even if they did, it would be almost worthless considering the volatility of performance, injury. not to mention the players finding out 5 months in advance.

There is just no version of what's actually possible right now that makes sense of the notion a Lillard trade is more or less a done deal.

No NBA insider has knowledge of a premise that on Aug. 10 is essentially impossible as described.

If the Knicks had a SL Game lineup of .. McBride, Quickley, Jalen Johnson, Obi Toppin, and Sims ....
Words and rumors would have top star FA calling the Knicks .. Jalen Johnson high b.ball IQ and performance reminds me of the Celtics Jayson Tatum.

Not selecting a team priority out of the draft (SF-Jalen Johnson) with the 19th pick, for some under the table $$$ cash is why top star FA want no part of joining the Knicks mismanagement franchise !!!
The Knicks having 4 picks in the 2021 draft class, and their 58th pick in the draft were their only draft pick having NBA potential says a lot bout the Knicks FO !!!

Yeah, free agents are laughing to themselves based on the 19th pick in the draft after two summer league games.

I'm certain you're correct about that.

Knicks couldn’t afford to have Jalen Johnson quit on them like he did to Duke. I think people are right to question his mental fortitude. If the Knicks have a bad year, is he demanding a trade? If he is 12th man in a 10 man rotation, does he decide to go play overseas. I don’t know. And neither can you. What I do know is there are plenty of guys that didn’t quit on their team.

I also know that every time I’ve questioned Thibs or Leon Rose I’ve regretted my hasty decision making.

He may work out well in Atlanta. But I don’t think the NY media would have given him a free pass here in NY.

You know I gonna spin wit it

Is Jalen playing SF for them. I don't think he has the footwork and recognition to guard wings full-time yet, if ever. I get hyped for SL too, but you can't take it too seriously. If you do that, then you're probably acknowledging Knox as the SF of the future

The Hawks have it right at SF. They are loaded with long wings. The Knicks have some solid talent but we aren't a big team at the 2/3

Hunter 6'8" wingspan 7'2"
Bogdanavic 6'6" wingspan 6'11"
Reddish 6'7" wingspan 7'1″
Johnson 6'9" wingspan 6'11"

I mean thats some serious length on the wing

now...with that being said...I WOULD NOT make a Lillard trade because it would completely gut the Knicks bench and we would be stuck with another Melo situation.

I think RJ should be untouchable. I think he will be the future of the Knicks, not Randle.

Lillard... he can't carry the knicks to a championship by himself. He played like trash at the olympics (and after the olympics is saying that he was hurt).

Yes

And in 2 years you will be thanking me

Agreed, in 2 years if Dame falls off and Barrett is balling, yes. I think that Barrett is at worst the 3rd star on a championship team. I think he is at least worth a Middleton or a Jrue Holiday.

So I would trade RJ for them at this current age and most likely even after they turned 30. Aside from those few players - it's not generally wise to trade positively developing youth for old players unless that one old players puts you in contention for a title. Knicks nowhere near that so adding Dame would just be treading water IMO. If RJ continues this development pace - he'll take over for Randle as the workhorse but we would still need to add another star player. Hope this Lillard situation doesn't play out with NY as the cost is simply too high.

If you trade guys like RJ, Obi, IQ, etc for Lillard you’re setting yourself up for a “Kristaps trade tree” where you’re the loser. To get Lillard you have to give up young talent AND match salaries. You’re effectively giving up players with whom you have the right to go WAY over the cap to extend them. The opportunity cost of that deal would be gigantic for years to come.

Any star you trade for your going to have to give up a lot, or you can sit and wait for the next Patrick Ewing to be drafted, or save all your cap for for 2nd and 3 tier players.

The FO will not make a one sided franchise killing trade, and that's just base on everything they have done so far.

Steven A only reiterated what Dame has insinuated and perhaps offered his opinion. Not like he said this was a done deal except knicks are balking at the price. Steven A does not have 1248 contacts.

I’d say also that the amount of players offered does Portland even have roster spots?

We don’t have to return them equal contracts if we still have cap space. We don’t.
We talking about copious picks.
What we are not talking about is Lillard leaves Portand because he wants to win. he comes here we are hamstrung with fewer assets, picks and cap space. So the question becomes are we good enough with him in the next three years? Do we have the assets to accumulate more talent?
Is Randle/Lillard core enough?

I like the guy, but for him to “win” with that contract will be hard to be traded two.

I love Dame's game...he's a legit superstar and would be an amazing presence in MSG. But I do NOT want to trade for him. I love watching the development of "team" in MSG, with the leadership of Jules, the emergence of RJ and others. That's the fairy tale story I am looking for as a life long NYK fan...all the way back to our last chip and earlier (yes, I'm long in the tooth).

What I don't want are shortcuts, starphucking, and risky gambits JUST to go for a chip. Either path is a risk, there are no guarantees. But let's please just enjoy the ride.

The short-cuts, starphucking and risky gambits have yet to lead to anywhere close to a chip. That’s why I don’t understand why SAS demands we do so with Lillard. We’d have to give up everything for a guy that doesn’t lead you to a chip.

SAS has his fans and likes to stir it up. SAS wins with ratings, not what’s best for an athlete, the team, or its fans. He wants Lillard, then he can moan about how knicks could not surround him with winning talent.
Melo 2.0???
I hope I’d be wrong and Rose has a plan, but its not that it remains to be seen it has yet to materialize.
I bemoan how we panic about until we see the full picture and then how it plays out. I suppose Lillard I’d have to be the same. I’ll give Leon the benefit of the doubt. I just don’t want us to panic like we did when Dolan took over and orchestrated the Melo deal with Kronke directly. It was not Melo I objected to, it was the team that was left. I know we made the playoffs with him and it did help, but it was not sustainable.
We just had a good season with Randle and RJ. We can stay “OK” while building a war chest and developing players too. At some point it will make sense to go all in.
