No idea on what the process is for picking next guy up but I have to guess it's guys on the practice team that area already in their bubble and under NBA/Olympic protocol.

Got to take off for Japan in the Now time range and you just can't pick up the phone and expect to quarantine someone etc etc.

Pop had exactly 5-10 guys to choose from IMO

Fine, except my understanding is that McGee has not been affiliated with the National/Olympic team since 2009 and was not part of the Olympic Select Team - so essentially Pops just picked up the phone...........

Or Jerry Colangalo did. McGee was a rookie in 2008-09 so I think the Since 2009 is not right.

It’s all good the whole thing is a **** show over there. For all we know Randle didn’t ask to go, or they have legitimate reasons to look elsewhere.

Yeah, I'm more interested in Argentina and France, to a lesser degree. This year's US squad seems to lack cohesion and has Knicks players..I guess KD was right and the Knicks aren't cool.

Jalen Rose says US Basketball ‘scared to make all-Black team’ for Olympics

Ny Magee June 25, 2021

“Kevin Love is on the team because of tokenism.”

ESPN host Jalen Rose is catching heat on social media after saying Kevin Love’s appearance on the Team USA Olympic roster was a form of “tokenism.”

Rose made the comments during his “Jalen & Jacoby” show after reports that the US men’s basketball team will be headed to the summer Olympics in Tokyo with Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard, and Devin Booker.

Love, 32, will join the lineup as a power forward with championship and Olympic experience.

“Kevin Love is on the team because of tokenism,” Rose said on his show. “Don’t be scared to make an all-Black team representing the United States of America. I’m disappointed by that. Anybody that watched the league this year knows Kevin Love did not have a stellar season, was not the best player on his team, and did not necessarily deserve to be on this squad.”

Though the 6’8 forward/center only averaged 12.2 points this past season, he helped Team USA win the gold at the 2012 Summer Olympics and won an NBA championship with the Cavaliers in 2016.

That same year, an all-Black roster represented the US in Rio de Janeiro. Rose said the Phoenix Suns’ Deandre Ayton — who represented the Bahamas in international competition — should be in Love’s place for the 2020 Summer Games.

“I also know the favoritism that Christian Laettner was shown when he got a chance to be put on the Dream Team ahead of Shaq and Alonzo (Mourning),” Rose said of USA’s men’s basketball team from 1992. “But they made it so a college player could even get on and gave him favoritism.”

Rose, a former NBA player, drew some fierce reactions on social media. Outkick reporter Bobby Burack wrote on Twitter, “ESPN should be ashamed. Everything there is about race. Topics, promotions, demotions, and rules. It has encouraged people to spread these lies. Jay Williams yesterday, Jalen Rose today, Mark Jones every day.”

As NBA Ratings Decline, Poll Shows 34% Watched Less Sports Over Social Justice Messages
By Matthew Impelli On 3/30/21 at 1:41 PM EDT

As NBA ratings have declined over the current season, a new poll shows that more than 30 percent of Americans say they have watched less sports over political and social justice messaging.

The poll, which was conducted by Yahoo News/YouGov, found 34.5 percent of respondents saying they have watched less sports due to social justice campaigns. According to the poll, 11 percent of people said they have watched more sports as a result of the social justice messaging, and 56.3 percent said they have watched the same amount.

Looking at the different political party affiliations, 19 percent of Democrats said they have watched less sports in light of social justice messaging, while 13.7 percent said they have watched more. In comparison, 53 percent of Republicans said they have watched less sports due to social justice messaging, and just 8.6 percent said they have watched more.

The poll also found that men were more likely to watch less sports as a result of social justice efforts, as 37.6 percent said so, compared to 28 percent of women. According to the poll, 13 percent of men and 7 percent of women said they have watched more sports.

Yahoo News/YouGov surveyed 1,606 U.S. adults from March 22 to March 25 and reported a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.

The poll's findings come as TV ratings for a majority of sports, including the NBA, declined in 2020. At the start of the 2020-2021 NBA season, Nielsen Media Research data showed that NBA viewership for nationally televised games on TNT, ABC and ESPN was up 34 percent compared to the same 27-game period from last season.

But while the league saw an increase in TV viewership at the start of the season, it has since seen a decline. The 2021 NBA All-Star Game received a record low 5.943 million viewers across TNT and TBS, according to data from ShowBuzzDaily......

The NBA's ratings have no doubt been affected by the various schedule adjustments made because of the coronavirus pandemic. But, as the poll notes, the decline also looks to be partly caused by the social justice messaging promoted by the league and teams.

During the 2019-2020 season, the NBA was forced to play in a "bubble" to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, but the season took place amid nationwide protests calling for an end to police brutality against Black Americans, following the death of George Floyd.

In response, the NBA allowed players to choose a social justice message to wear on the backs of their jerseys, instead of their last names. The league also placed similar messages, such as "Black Lives Matter," on the courts.

Prior to the start of the 2020-2021 season, NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced that the league would no longer place social justice messages on the courts or jerseys.

"My sense is there will be some sort of return to normalcy," Silver said during an interview with ESPN in October. "That those messages will largely be left to be delivered off the floor. And I understand those people who are saying, 'I'm on your side, but I want to watch a basketball game.'"

Some of you, not all, but some have a huge hard on for social justice. Well, it helped **** up the entire NBA as a sport. So when you see ****ty basketball because of it, that's what you said you wanted, and this is the unintended consequence of it all ( Once you let one thing that has **** to do with winning actual basketball games snowball, well all you end up with is bull**** that robs the game of any actual joy or wonder or beauty) . So enjoy your ****ty basketball. You always keep what you kill in this life.

???

Can you break it down more?

His usual alt-right politics junk. Even putting aside social justice has nothing to do with the current olympic team, even if I it did, most of us would consider social justice more important than the US's team performance at the Olympic Games.

I'm wondering who most of us are. Can I get a show of hands? Clearly his entertainment is more important than the human lives, inequality in the justice system, so on and so forth.

It's obvious certain social groups are in pain, while other social groups are not impacted; hence the lack of empathy.

That dude spews a bunch of racially insensitive **** on this site and to be honest, I am a little disappointed that more people on this site are not calling him out. I called him out twice, once last summer in the George Floyd thread. Recently, he made an unprovoked comment implying that all black people want to do is play sports or be entertainers! Clearly, social injustice or anything related to black upliftment is clear triggers for him which says a lot about his character or lack thereof.

I'm trying to figure out what does social justice have to do with Players catching Covid, players that are supposed to be on the squad but are still in the finals(why not replace them), and the fact that the team was made up of a bunch of ISO players.

Social justice has nothing to do with this situation. This is just an example of a poster stretching to insert his own brand of politics into something in order to try and over-manufacture faux outrage. What apparently is really going on with the team is nepotism......

- Latest rumor was that Love was chosen at the request of Durant. Durant is apparently attempting to recruit Love for the Nets in anticipation of a Cav's buyout.

- Beal was replaced by Keldon Johnson - mainly due to Pops being his coach

- Java;e McGee was chosen for only reasons Pop's knows.

Javale and Keldon are glue guys. Every championship team needs guys that doesn't get any plays run for them, but they still play hard on both ends and do the little things... I think they realized their mistake with the roster build and tried to balance out the max players and role players a little more. More motivation for Randle to come back next season even better. And good insight on this topic of social justice that he just snuck in. "over-manufacture faux outrage".....facts.

So I don't see the point of the kevin love video post, how players called him a whte boy. What was the point in that? Did he receive death threats? I'm sure if the roles were reversed, which it has been before, how kevin love is being treated is nothing compared to how others have been and continue to be treated.

"The Dodgers nearly had an internal uprising led by their Southern players, death threats poured into Robinson's mail, the Philadelphia Phillies manager and players were warned by baseball's commissioner"

I don't know anybody who could've succeeded at their craft like Jackie Robinson did, under those daily threats and racial tension just because his skin is high in melanin. He had to deal with this ignorance on and off the field, his entire career.

Jalen Rose says US Basketball ‘scared to make all-Black team’ for Olympics

I'm not trying to be a dick but your post the other day made it seem like Kevin Love made the team because of him being a high profile athlete with mental health problems and that's what we get for being in favor of social justice but this post is making it seem like Kevin Love made the team because he is white. So which is it? Because I don't think being white on an all black team is a social justice issue. So if it's the whiteness thing then it kinda renders moot your previous post about social justice.

Just don't get your angle here.

Looks like it was close. Maybe I was wrong about lack of parity, and in the next Olympics there might actually be some intrigue.

Otherwise, the excitement of following international competition for me is largely gone now that Frank is no longer a Knick.

I saw 1 possession where Frank hit a big 3. Once a knick, always a knick. I was very happy and actually 2nd guessing the FO for not signing him. Until the very next possession, he makes a pass that leads to a TO and bucket for team usa. Then I was like, oh that's why he's not on the team. Lol

EF looked very confident and held his own on defense. He's a solid all around player. In the small window that i saw him play, he hit a 3...then took a long steph curry range 3 and bricked it. But im ok with that. He had to force it in order for them to have a chance. But he made the right passes and played solid defense and forced a few TOs.

If you consider USA winning another Gold as an "epic disaster" well then I'll take it every time.

PS: Never doubt our American basketball players. We're the best in the World. We can send our C-Team and/or D-Team to the Olympics and still win GOLD (just like we his did).

Take this as a lesson learned.

Never doubt American basketball man.
