Why would Atlanta want to trade a key guy to their biggest rivals? The other moves are also questionable. I think Rose gets significantly more, probably a 2 year contract at 175% current salary after we use the rest of our cap space.
Gallo is owed 42mil over the next 2 yrs. He played 51 games at 24mins per last season. He is 32. There are very high odds that Gallo continues to declined over these next two seasons. IMO the opportunity to reallocate that cap for a proven younger long term piece before having to pay Young is pretty critical for them in terms of being a contender.
Please justify this proposed trade: Kevin Knox
for
Gallinari
Onyeka Okongwu
ATL 2021 first round pick (#20)
I did already, but you aborted the thread after reading the trade
-Gallinari looks like he is on the decline, This moves saves ATL 20+mil for next season. Since John Collins doesn't look like a long term fit for the money he will want. I can see them working out a S&T for a 2021 first or future first or for another stud player. Either way that extra 20mil in savings plus Collins puts them in position to net a bigger fish. Or they can sign Lauri Markenen for way cheaper than Collins and use the remaining cap for more depth pieces. For the Knicks. Knicks are in position to make such a move. While this move is made with long term vision. Gallo even as a diminishing player. He offers vet depth at that the 3/4 spot as a shooter in a reduced min role that Thibs can work with short term. Okonqwu is a prospect that can be in the mix as a contingency for a Noel & Mitch when it comes to paying them. Or Obi if a trade comes up. The #20 pick gives the Knicks picks 19,20,21 in this draft.
This deal isn't based on Knox's value being that high. It's that dumping Gallo's contract right now after ATL elevated their standing. During this window before they max out Young. They can use that to add in another proven young long term piece. To pair up with Young, Bog, Hunter, Capela, Huerter, Reddish. Maybe work out a S&T with TOR swapping Collins for Siakam who would be a better fit since he has more lateral quickness at the 4. If Knox finds himself with better G play even better. If not that's another 5mil off the books.
