The other moves are also questionable. I think Rose gets significantly more, probably a 2 year contract at 175% current salary after we use the rest of our cap space.

Gallo is owed 42mil over the next 2 yrs. He played 51 games at 24mins per last season. He is 32. There are very high odds that Gallo continues to declined over these next two seasons. IMO the opportunity to reallocate that cap for a proven younger long term piece before having to pay Young is pretty critical for them in terms of being a contender.

Please justify this proposed trade:

Kevin Knox

for

Gallinari
Onyeka Okongwu
ATL 2021 first round pick (#20)

I did already, but you aborted the thread after reading the trade

-Gallinari looks like he is on the decline, This moves saves ATL 20+mil for next season. Since John Collins doesn't look like a long term fit for the money he will want. I can see them working out a S&T for a 2021 first or future first or for another stud player. Either way that extra 20mil in savings plus Collins puts them in position to net a bigger fish. Or they can sign Lauri Markenen for way cheaper than Collins and use the remaining cap for more depth pieces. For the Knicks. Knicks are in position to make such a move. While this move is made with long term vision. Gallo even as a diminishing player. He offers vet depth at that the 3/4 spot as a shooter in a reduced min role that Thibs can work with short term. Okonqwu is a prospect that can be in the mix as a contingency for a Noel & Mitch when it comes to paying them. Or Obi if a trade comes up. The #20 pick gives the Knicks picks 19,20,21 in this draft.

This deal isn't based on Knox's value being that high. It's that dumping Gallo's contract right now after ATL elevated their standing. During this window before they max out Young. They can use that to add in another proven young long term piece. To pair up with Young, Bog, Hunter, Capela, Huerter, Reddish. Maybe work out a S&T with TOR swapping Collins for Siakam who would be a better fit since he has more lateral quickness at the 4. If Knox finds himself with better G play even better. If not that's another 5mil off the books.

This actually made me laugh. Once Atlanta signs off on this, we can trade Frank for Dame, Huerter, Melo and Portland's first rounder [cough, cough]... damn, where's the popcorn, I'm hungry...

You're trading a first round bust, who barely saw the court for an entire season while his team went to the playoffs for the first time in what seems like a decade, and getting three things back.

Three. Actual. Things. For Kevin Knox.

And they're not cups of coffee, ace bandages and coupons for Mcdonalds. Which still would be a bad trade for including the Mc'D's coupons.

Please hold up the mirror, and stop breathing on it while proposing this.

This can't be THAT hard to comprehend.

ATL is dumping Gallinari's 42mil remaining salary. They are using 2 assets in Onyeka & their 2021 first round pick #20 to clear themselves of this salary. Knox is nothing more than a throw in they can kick the tires on since he is still young. He is not the center of the deal. IMO the 20+mil in cap saved that they can re-allocate is more valuable to them for their current situation than what they gave up.

Now you can disagree that ATL needs to clear Gallo's salary sure. But the deal isn't based on Knox being a star that commands multiple assets in return.

With that being said, I should have little faith that what i'm writing is actually being read based on the replies.

So why not let them kick the tires on Theo Pinson then? Or Norvel Pelle? Or the rights to Chris Smith? Or is it because Atlanta is really looking forward to just dumping salary as a way of life?

And back on our side of the mirror, you think accepting a salary dump for an oft-hurt soft PF on the decline is a good way for us to spend cap? A #20 pick means that much to you?

You're just too clever.

You are making an assumption that the Hawks want to dump Gallo one year after signing him. The Hawks made the playoff for the first time in 4 years and Gallo's addition to the roster certainly helped. His per 36 mins stats were pretty close to his numbers from last year. Why are you assuming the Hawks want to rid themselves of Gallo's contract so bad that they willing to give up their #1 pick from last year AND their number #1 pick this year in return for our bust player who will be on the last year of his deal?

The whole premise of this deal is that the Hawks desperately regret signing Gallo and would move heaven and earth just to get rid of the rest of his contract. As if they didn't know how old Gallo was when they signed him last summer.
