So yeah, we need an upgrade at PG - but no on Kemba - even though he was one of my fave college players.
Covered before, but he seemingly has a chronic knee problem that really started affecting him in the 2019-2020 season. He was basically load-managed this season and will likely need the same treatment moving forward. Load managed players tend to mess up team chemistry a bit. See Boston, but also see Miami this year: the aging Dragic was in and out of the lineup and I think that impacted the output of their role players. (everyone's fave "Herro" is a little miscast as a fulltime PG, as are the rest of the Miami "interchangeable" horde of guards)
I still like the idea of a Rozier-type player that isn't afraid to take big shots. He's like a better version of what we got with Rivers (or, really, a baby version of Dwyane Wade) and I think would be a very solid starter quality player. I wouldn't expect him to elevate the team the way a CP3 would. I think popping CP3 on our roster in place of Elfrid would have given us 10+ more wins this season. If we had the same roster + Rozier instead of Elfrid, maybe only 2-3 more wins?
I don't think we'd be in a terrible place developing Quickley - but I think at his current level of development, he benefits with the Knicks doing our current style of running the PG through Randle/RJ/Burks and him being a secondary creator. He may not be ready to be a fulltime starting quality PG yet. (or maybe it's not in the cards for his future) But as we saw in the Atlanta series, having a more dynamic ball creator (and not a forward) running the offense would probably make our offense much more dangerous and unpredictable.
