Noel is probably a slightly better shot-blocker(and by slightly, I mean very slightly better), but Mitch is better at everything else. Mitch is a better overall defender, Mitch has better hands, and Mitch is a better lob finisher. I don’t how many times guys would pass to Noel down low and he would fumble the ball away. Those would all have been dunks if Mitch had been there. I would resign Noel if we could keep him on like a one year $9-$10 million deal, but the priority is to figure out what to do with Mitch. They can either make him a restricted FA this summer or a unrestricted FA next summer. I would let him become a restricted FA this summer and let the market determine his value while we still have cap space and the restrictive free agent tag to keep him from getting away. His injury will depress his value somewhat, and we might be able to resign him to a 3-4 year $10-$12 million per year deal that should age well.

Agree 100%. Have Mitch go RFA Let someone offer Mitch a deal and then match. I doubt Mitch gets a huge offer this summer coming off missing half of last season due to injury

Of we pick up the option August 1st he can go uFA next year but we hold his bird rights and the cap hold at under 4mm. We can pay more and have it hit less!
If we extend him that hits our cap somewhat but we lock up a guy with a bad foot? The money chess game is important here and perhaps thats why the Brock Aller experience is oh so important unless Gilbert brings him back to Clev.
Aller might be great as numbers guy but as Full GM maybe not? I can only imagine we’ll pay him well but not like a full time GM gets. Can’t worry about everything.
I like Mitch, but after 3 seasons I’m not seeing the “Guaranteed allstar for sure” fans might have been thinking.
We do get a bit carried away!

I have faith that our FO is very much in synch with values and a path to secure what they have in some fashion.

For all we know the the path to improvement might be a step back with a longer view, or a starphuch ramp up with a 2 year window. Who decides? Not us. Not even logic that Leon & Co. bring. Team owner decides just like any other franchise! Yikes!!

My only point is that Mitch is a better prospect than Noel and the difference is significant enough that the Knicks need to resign him. I do trust Leon Rose and the other decision makers. I also do agree that we should not rush the process, and I would not be opposed to no big FA signings this offseason. I think the team will naturally improve with the growth of RJ, Quickley, and Toppin. But I do see Mitch as part of the future and if we can lock him for 3 years at $10 million per year, the. I see that as a solid deal for us.

Trust the Process
