This. Better passing out of the double team would be nice and perhaps prioritizing shots at the rim over those long twos but he is in a really good place right now as a top 10-15 player.

It was a good peak watching the Lakers last night (and quite frankly I thought the Spurs and Miami games help too) and seeing how and what he compares to AD. Lots of role players out there and the 2 were the obvious exceptions.

I like this site to compare 2 or more players for year to year or career, it's useful. http://Stathead.com

Here are stats for this past season: https://stathead.com/tiny/bvw5o

Thoughts?

What's it going to take for Randle to get to the next level?

Better ball control - avoid the stupid mistakes that lead to turnovers.
Plan for the double team, it will always be coming.
Better at finishing at the rim. His midrange game is amazing, but he misses a lot of up close stuff.
Get another alpha to draw more attention - elite wing who MUST be covered will reduce pressure on Randle. Kawhi on this team could make Randle a superstar.

His mid range game is saucey but yeah a little less of these and he should be fine. He had a step on AD the whole game but didn’t capitalize.

Remember the 4th quarter vs the Lakers and AD. There is a next level and its mental. The next level is where you know you're the man and stop needing to show that you're the man. Going at a team that let you go.... let that go. The best revenge is winning. Not trying to win all by yourself. Don't be the guy who takes every shot down the stretch. Some of that is the front office getting him more weapons. No shame in needing help to get to the next level. He has the right coach and hopefully the right front office that he can get there.

If there's one thing preventing him from being a super-legit top-3 type MVP candidate, he's only shooting .476 from 2pt range this year.

Next Level: mix it up in the paint a bit more - make some adjustments to the post up game and get the 2pt FG% back up in the 55+% range. He achieved this in his 2 years prior to joining the Knicks.

His shot selection has to improve. He is shooting over double teams now. That's a major reason for the lower %.
