Wanted him at the trade deadline. Was glad it was not a sign and trade. This may be the first time Briggs, you and I have been on the same page.

Think he will get 4 years @ $25M?

HELL NO, not even close to that.

Yeah, that's to low. That's not even the mid-level.

ha Per Year

Powell will get a Levert/Randle/Harrison Barns type contract... depending on structure and market $15mm-$25mm per year. Would 4 years and anything between $60mm-$100mm surprise anyone?

It'll be interesting to see what teams beyond Portland are in play for Powell.

There's not many FA players. EVERY player will be rumored to go to the Knicks to drive up their pricetags and pay days

I'm very interested in Powell, but how good of a defender is he? I've heard mixed results on him defensively. Is he really lock down like you say?

How good of a defender was RJ and IQ before Thibs and his staff got in their heads.

There's 2 thing you should know longer concern yourself with, the FO OVER PAYING A PLAYER, or bringing in a suspect defensive player.

Base on what you have witness so far, the knicks will rather put there cap space in a piggy bank rather than over paying a player, and despite guys like drummond being available, if they don't think the player will fit or plays enough defense, they will bypass that player despite and his talents.

Powell is a solid player for what it's worth, but he was traded from a struggling Raptors team, and the spurs have not been much better with his acquisition, so IDK

The Trailblazers....and they have won 4 straight.

LOL... yeah. That was a SELL move for Toronto, and despite not shooting great in Portland he's really helped them.

With Lil/CJ/Norm/Nurkic Portland has a very good squad and could get hot and upset a LOT of teams. Melo/Kanter get you tons of bench buckets as well. Looking forward to the playoffs for once

I like Powell a heckuva lot more than Trent. Trent is one dimensional and is, ideally, a rotation player. Powell offers a bit more versatility offensively and defensively IMHO and would help the team. My thing Fish is that you hesitate to re-sign our role players, who would sign to cheaper deals, but then you want to sign role players from other teams who are going to cost at least 2x as much. Powell is better than Reggie, but is he 2.5x the player Reggie is? That's what it might take to sign him.
I think he is... I dont really think Powell is a role player for Portland. He's the 3rd scorer on a team built on scoring. Bullock gets all his scoring off the other guy's gravity and thats great. I think Powell is a guy who can slide into that 2nd scorer also and get you buckets. Powell is a sub all star but plays damn close to that most nights.

I love Reggie btw and was defending him when he was playing like **** early in the year. We need higher end talent, higher impact. If we end up spending on PG I am all for bringing Reggie back (although I would prioritize Noel first regardless)

I don't call him a role player to denigrate him. But on championship team his role would ideally be sixth-man, maybe a starter. If he's your second leading scorer, chances are your team isn't doing much better than the Knicks or Portland are doing now. Probably slightly worse. Just saying he's not a star. On that Toronto title team, Powell came off the bench and provided the spark they needed. I like Powell at the right price. He's going to get a lot more than that.

They played him minutes at SF in Toronto. Haven't watched a lot Portland, but imagine they have him in three guard lineups, where he is nominally the "3".

fair.. but his equiv on a championship team might be Iggy. Guards 1-4 off the bench, can score by himself and knock down 3s.... he's a high impact guy which is 100% my goal with FA this offseason. More than just a good fit, another guy who can impose his will on the game. He's not Lebron, but he can be another Derrick Rose in terms of caliber. Averages are good, but some nights he just kills it. When he doesnt he's still playing a Thib's flavor of ball and defending and doing other things.

Im not hyper Briggs focused on Powell, but I do like him. I like Powell, Derozon, Schroder and Conley best (assuming Kawhi is NA). Of those 4 guys my favorite might just be the cheapest so we CAN bring more of our role players back. Gotta get that blue chipper first

I had him at $15mm per in my calcs. That might be low for him though. Not sure he gets to $25mm. But he should get more than Tim Hardaway, Jr., all things considered.

Height is stupid. Use wingspan. Doesn't matter if you can see the top of his head if he can block your shot.

Like iq is 6-3 on a good day with sneakers on but his wingspan is 6-8

Reggie bullock combine measurement was 6-5.5 wingspan 6-8

Powell has got to be the shortest SF in the NBA. If Gannis is a sf imagine that match up, or larbon, you think his wing span is going to help him body up guys 50 pounds heavier with their own 7 2 wing span..

Don't get me wrong, I like Powell, just wouldn't put him as our starting sf, i would rather Oubre jr or Derozen

Most SF can switched on to a PF (especially with so much switching in the nba). Did you see Patrick Bev trying to guard Randle on switch defense..Treated him like a rag doll.

In an uptempo offense you can get away with powell at sf, we are more a half court team

Beware! The Strickland podcast had some raptor fan/writer on and asked why raptor fans seemed to hate him when his stats looked good, and they said he’s very hot and cold and quite an annoying player to have on your team

Of course. He would play the 2. Rj the 3

To short to consistently play sf

Not really my pick. I’m just talking about player measurements in general.

Trent jr was RFA. why did Portland trade him?
Why did Raptors trade Powell? They did not want to pay him? But they want to pay Trent and let Lowrey walk giving Greta VanVleet PG role and get some size in the back court.
DId Blazers bring in powell for this year playoff run to let him walk?
Timmy got 18mm per.
Bullock is the hot flavor of the month in our knick love. We in the afterglow of a great roadtrip and first trip to play offs. We already disrespecting hawks as if we all that and should beat them.
lets see how it goes from here and if he leaves the toilet seat up in the morning before we start leaving a toothbrush for him.

Powell is built like a stronger Frank. RJ is a little taller but not as long as Powell and that is what matters most and why wingspan is the measuring stick. Lateral quickness of a 6'3, reach of a 6'11 guy

He's just one guy but he's an attainable roster upgrade that fits really well.

You send out RJ/Randle/Powell every night with rim protection and we will pound you into submission. 3 guys who play both ends and defend multiple positions and can score from anywhere. That's how you go from good to elite.

Powell wont cost max money so good chance you can bring back Noel/Bullock/Rose

PG Rose
SG RJ
SF Powell
PF Randle
C Mitch

Bench: Luka/IQ/Bullock/Obi/Noel
rest of roster: Taj/Knox?/FRP/FRP/?

Beware! The Strickland podcast had some raptor fan/writer on and asked why raptor fans seemed to hate him when his stats looked good, and they said he’s very hot and cold and quite an annoying player to have on your team

Just took a quick listen to the segment. Definitely made him sound like a THJ level FA target. Sounds like not only Powell's offense is up and down, but his defense in Toronto. This guy needs a deeper dive.

Raptors see Trent as a younger Powell that still has team control. Likely that Powell would walk after the season.
