If Bullock flat out sucked in the playoffs, would you still be saying that?

I would. I'm not going to base my opinion on a small sample size. He's returned to form and is a legit 3&D guy. Not a guy who plays passable D and hits a high percentage from three. Or a guy who plays good D and hits a passable percentage from three. Guys like Bullock are coveted and he will draw attention on the free agent market.

A seven game playoff series. Lets say 5-6 games played is enough of a sample size to see how well Bullock bounces back from adversity, as an established vet.

Back to my first post, you want to sign a starter for 3-4 years. You want as little doubt as possible. Im not talking about a so-so playoff run. But just plain awful. Game after game. That should give any exec pause.

Again I dont see that happening, worst case scenario. Would not sign him to a multi-year deal just before the playoffs if the rules allowed it. When I can wait and see how he performs when the chips are down.

I’ve already seen enough to be happy with a multi year contract. The question for me is the price tag.

Yep. 5-6 games isn't enough for me to change my opinion. The playoffs are so matchup dependent and there are a lot of things that can factor into a poor performance. I'm not going to write Paul George off because of his performance in last year's playoffs just like I didn't anoint Tyler Herro the next big star because he got hot.

PG is a superstar, franchise player. The talent level is already off the charts. We have enough cap room to add a star, a starter. Id rather see how things play out. And just as important, who is available, or tradeable. Before making a long term commitment. As a bench player, thats something else.

What do you consider a big long-term commitment. I'm thinking about three years, $9M per, around the mid-level.
thats a nice contract and good for Reggie, but that $9mm cuts into the cap space. Nice deal AFTER I sigh a high level guy. I am not paying Reggie Bullock only to bring back Payton because I spend my FA cash and cant afford Conley/Schroder/Lowry or whoever. Thats the part that doesnt make sense and seems to be getting glossed over

I would be thinking good we can sign him again for 5m!!

Because he was a huge part of us winning nearly 50 games if the season was 82 games

Being just a good regular season player is enough for you? Not suggesting thats Bullock's fate.

Id much rather see how things play out. Than pull something out of the Steve Mills playbook.

As in most jobs, it is all about who can you replace someone with and how that would help or hurt your current situation.
Who do you think would be an available upgrade? Have not really looked into it.

I wouldn't sell the ranch to re sign him, but he's a valuable piece, a veteran role player with much needed 3 point skills

There's always going to be better options, but if it's working, why mess around.

I think kelly Oubre would be a nice addition to the starting line up with bullock off the bench

I'm assuming Payton doesn't come back. That move alone gets you there to that number for Reggie. I'm assuming Burks is gone, and IQ fills that role. If Bullock does come back, I'd assume they'd hav an agreement to do a deal after they signed whatever big hitter they're targeting. I'm not really high on Schroeder, but there'd still be enough room to chase him if you wanted (I really hope they stay clear).

If we are cool with competing for seeds 4-7 in the playoffs for the next 3 years and not giving ourselves a shot at being a legit top 3 team in the east, then by all means, we should use our cap space to resign Bullock, Burks, etc....But if we want to put ourselves in a legit position to compete for the eastern conference final, we need to figure out a way to use our cap space on an elite player, via trade, FA, etc. You dont mind going over the cap to add players like Reggie to a team thats a 3 & D player away from getting to the next level ( think Ray Allen with the Heat). As opposed to using most of our remaining cap space on this type of player before getting that elite player.

The Knicks have a lot cap space. Signing Reggie won't kill it. If you're worried about wasting space instead of holding out for an elite player, the real question is should the Knicks go after guys like Conley, Schroeder and Ball. I just read Yahoo article where they said the Knicks were considering just offering Lowry one huge, one-year deal. I don't think I'd have a problem with that.

its a little shocking to me more here cant see this... Everyone loves how the team is playing. Long term success depends on adding high end talent as you mention, not keeping the role players around on bigger deals past 30 YO

That's not the point though IMHO. Knicks got to maximize the cap space one way or another. You can't add several role player $6-9M deals into the space and then try to build. Build first, add Bullocks with Bird rights to go over.

There is a puzzle here that cannot be predicted for the future.
We all love the present and want to preserve it. I assure you change is enevitable.
The 4th seed if achievable was predicated on some covid related anomalies, some under performing teams and no doubt this team over performing expectations.
Im enjoying the hell out of this but not benchmarking this as the templete for next year if this team came back intact. It won't because thats not how it works.

As far as I'm concerned, Bullock is the only one I feel needs to be re-signed. I like Burks, but I'd have no problem letting him go and giving those minutes to Quick. I'm a Noel fan, but the Knicks already have a Mitch and back-up centers are like NFL running backs. You can always sign one of the scrap head or find value in the lower rounds of the draft. Legit 3&D's like Bullock are harder to find. But if Bullock did get an offer past $9M, I'd have no problem letting him go either. But he would leave a big hole in the line-up.

What did you think of the draft? Kinda like moving back and first tow picks. Do not know who this new GM is but thought he did okay. lol.
Especially since it was hard to gauge who was worth anything with the watered-down college season.

I think Gettleman is picking for his life now. Even at 70 years old.
Draft was ok. That kid out of Florida looks like something legit, as well as that edge rusher they got.
Just worried about what Gettlman's going to do about the Oline. For both Barkley and Danny. Go Yanks!

Oline? Whats that? Lol. Yeah agree. Would also like more pressure from our defense on the QB.

IN a perfect world we draft someone younger and more athletic that can do what Bullock and Burks do for us. Bullock has been incredibly valuable for us, knocking down 3-4 3's per game lately. But ideally we pay him what he's making now. If we pay him more its too much cap for his skillset. Its a tough call- I hope he returns for a similar salary, but you gotta be careful.

Bullock has been solid. Many on here that were questioning Thibs for starting him over some end-of-bench guys are now seeing the benefits of his decision. Go Giants!

Chris Duarte measurements and college stats are very similar to bullock college stats.

Duarte seems to be more of a complete player while bullock is catch and shoot 3D

If we are not using all our picks to move up and get Davion mitchel Duarte is my first pick

Bullock brings his defense when he is locked in and a 40 percent clip from 3

I feel Duarte even as a (old rookie) can bring us 37-40 percent clip and defense

What Duarte doesn’t have that bullock has is nba veteran experience.

We probably could get by with this rookie without bullock

The thing is I’ve noticed Randle and bullock have a good connection/friendship it seems.

So I would imagine we will try to get bullock back at a good price and sign Duarte as his down the road replacement.

Side notes

Yes I
Prefer Duarte to kispert (maybe lol actually looking forward to the combine)

Bullock is more likely to return than burks

Noel staying depends on what is going on in Robinsons head lol

Will be interesting if Randle gives us a favorable extension or requests his bag 💰

Money vs winning lol 🤔

Or we can resign Frank on a cheap one year deal and use him exclusively in the wing role. And then we can y’know actually play him

Frank can’t shoot 40 percent from 3. Not on medium/high volume. From the corner he can. Bullock and burks connect wide open at a better percentage from all over the court.

Draft Chris Duarte. He is better than Frank

Can't say enough about Bullock
