Indiana will look to save money and get out from 1 or 2 of these bigger contracts. Robinson would offer them a cheap replacement for the year, plus Knox and a first round pick from this upcoming draft (worst of the picks between Dallas and NY) should get the job done.

This may not be a popular option for a lot of people. Many will say why mess with the center position here, as clearly it's working. But looking forward to the off-season, i think the challenge is figuring out how to get better without messing with what has worked really well. Turner is a top 50-75 player in the league who does most of the things Noel and Mitch do, only more. He's basically an upgrade that doesn't re-invent the wheel for Thibs at the center position. Knicks may decide not to invest big into the PG position this summer if Ball and Schroder cost 25+ mil a year, and Turner is an easy way to acquire a big upgrade without breaking the bank (Turner is 25 and makes 18 mil per year) and definitely becoming a better team. With the way Rose is playing, Knicks may just move him to the starting line-up and use a combination of Quickley, Burks, Vildoza (assuming he's signed) and either a rookie PG (maybe Jared Butler) or a cheaper backup PG (Ish Smith or TJ McConnell) as a committee in the backcourt to keep Rose's minutes in check.

Have to make these trades at least a little realistic. Mitch is only cheap for a year if you don't sign him to an extension, and if you don't, he is cheap for a year and then an UFA. Knox is dead weight as far as trades go, $6M mystery meat cause he gets zero burn. And then a pick in the early 20's.

If you were Indiana you would insist on an agreeable Mitch extension before trade and probably Obi instead of Knox at the least.

How is his defense? Blocking shots doesn't automatically mean you're good defensively. I remember watching him we when played Indiana and wasn't impressed with him on defense other than two or three times he blocked a shot.

I would put him on my top 5 wish list.

Ask yourself who on this roster impressed you on defense prior to THIBS coaching them, maybe Noel, and thats because that's all he does.

Myles plays in and out, I would prefer him over any of the guys we have now without blinking.

Actually if we're talking about bigs all of them. Taj was already solid on defense. Defense is pretty much what Noel was known for. And we all know the impact a healthy Mitch had on our defense. We can't get caught up in this narrative that Thibs is some witch doctor who turns everyone he comes in contact with into a great defender. If Turner doesn't have the desire to be a prime time defender beyond blocking shots, Thibs can't just sprinkle defense dust on him to make it happen. Certainly didn't happen with Knox.

I just asked the question about Turner since I rarely watch Pacer games other than when we play them. I remember coming away thinking Turner wasn't as good on defense as his blocked shots would lead you to believe. But again, I have a very limited sample size which is why I would love to hear from others.

Indiana isn't going to require a ton for Turner. The value is in the savings and pick. A first round pick and a replacement starter on an extremely cheap contract is more than enough. For comparison, look at the trade here.

https://dailyknicks.com/2021/05/04/ny-knicks-3-mitchell-robinson-offseason-trades-for-ny-to-consider/2/

It's for Mitch and Knox straight up. Not nearly enough, but add a first round pick and it's very realistic. Let's remember that Turner is still a non-all-star center on a non-rookie contract. They aren't getting more than this.

Agreed, just an example.

Look at it another way. Dennis Schroder was traded last summer from a rebuilding team to the lakers for the 28th pick in the draft. Schroder is a top-100 player and quality starter coming off a good season, on a non-rookie contract. He's been exactly what the Lakers expected him to be, a 3rd option on offense behind 2 superstars and a quality defender. He is expected to demand a long-term deal in the 20-25 mil a year range this summer (he turned down 4/84).

Myles Turner is probably a slightly better player at a less important position. For a late first round pick, you can get a starting caliber player, particular if that player isn't on a bargain contract. When you look at it this way, a first round pick in the 20-22 range plus Robinson might be too much for Turner. Again just a recent example for what a first round pick can yield right now. My suspicion is the Knicks will likely use one of their picks this summer in a trade for a starter or as part of a package for a high level starter.

That's true, but Green's contract was a cap filler. OKC didn't want it. Knicks wouldn't have to worry about sending back a contract in any deal.

Knox is dead weight as far as trades go, $6M mystery meat cause he gets zero burn. And then a pick in the early 20's.

If you were Indiana you would insist on an agreeable Mitch extension before trade and probably Obi instead of Knox at the least.

For me, dailyknicks is just not a baseline source of anything.

Dennis Schroder was traded for Danny Green & 28th pick

That's true, but Green's contract was a cap filler. OKC didn't want it. Knicks wouldn't have to worry about sending back a contract in any deal.

OKC didn't want Green but that doesn't mean he wasn't a valued piece. Dont think he was straight cap filler, he had some value.

Yeah i guess that part is up for debate. I'm really curious about the draft this year. 2 first round picks that won't be at the tail end. There's some real value there in trade for a team in win-now mode.

Philly win a title Danny green becomes fist player to win three chips with three teams in three consecutive seasons. I don’t believe any player has 4 rings or more with 4 different teams. Dude is Money. He has a ring with SAS, Tor, and Lakers. Horry has 7 with three teams.

But was Green really that vital to those championships or just happened to be at the right place at the right time? Especially if you look at his playoff stats and performances.

Vital role player, and playoff teams keep trading for him.

This dude looked good to me in the playoffs. Yes, Vital rotational player and still is for nets when their money guys are hurt.

Is Turner a good player? Yes, that is a clear thing, but we are more than well covered in that position and my priority would still be other positions. Let's face it, if Indiana really wants to get rid of him so we can get him for a bargain package, why not.

But I think the part of you who writes about him pretty much underestimates how much Indiana wants to get for him.

Off-season target: Myles Turner
